i am really into spiritual books right now and i want to know what spiritual books you are reasing or reccomend and why.

at the mo i am considering getting Matter of the Heart by Juanita Bynum

i have read TD Jakes -The Lady Her Lover and Her Lord which i reccomend as it shows you can balance all three in your life

Alchemist - not going to give a review as such, but...i thought it was a nicely written book that made me think about some things like how we view situations as well as following your heart, fulfilling your dreams etc......

Loved the Alchemist! went and bought another one of his books thinking it would be the same..disappointed..saying that..you have to read between the lines with that man's stories..

I'd recommend 'Conversations with God'by Neale Donald Walsch. wonderful. simply wonderful. I believe in god. but dnt believ in a vengeful god and all that sinning crap we been force fed.. i believe human beings have got all the power to stop chaos, madness but we don't want it badly enough to change or are too blind to see TRUTH..anyway.. book pretty much expands on 'Life is what you make it'. It covers lots of subjects we deal with daily and all the questions you ever thought of asking and those you didn't should you meet with an extraodinary being.. my life has never been the same since I read it. I've never been more responsible, more honest, less people pleasing and generally more happier..and I didn't have to get saved to get that experience..I just learnt to turn inwards..which is the only way...

"Sins of My Mother" by Terri Jones Salter (got it off of Amazon).  This book was incredible....a story about how generational curses afflict a family of black women.  Angela the main character is the one everybody in the family dumps on, until she loses herself completely in their mess.  Ultimately some crazy stuf happens which pushes her to pursue answers to some spiritual questions.......I think is a must read!

See attached cover.

The Seat of the Soul by Gary Zoukav......its quite daunting, but if you persevere, it would be one of the most rewarding book you'll ever read on spirituality.niceone.gif

@eskay, yes, conversation with God is just plainly AMAZING....and i agree, looking inward which this book really advocates, is better than imagining some imaginery hell or devil that are forever lurking around to get you.

Reading this book makes you realise that most religions are unjustly painting the CREATOR with THEIR own image of impeferctions.......if only, we would really LOOK inward......who knows hey...:)

for real @ true.. I always refer back to who inspired me/helped me to get where I am today .. so Neale Donald Walsch/Iyanla Vanzant remind me of TRUTH..

What are you reading now? I am personally going thru a blocked/numb moment, nothing is really inspiring me..so taken time out until I see/come across something that will move me.. saying that I skimmed (read only what interested me tho cos it was so interesting I damn near read it all) that guy Dr Liala's (can't remember his surname) 'Afrocentric Holistic Guide to Living'..same guy that wrote 'Nutricide'..very interesting/informative/insightful..combination of health, medicine, relationship, cleansing, history book ..

Iyanla too... I love her... I have until today... been in my handbag for almost two years... I actually got to see Iyanla live in February 2004 as part of In celebration of my sisters... I thought that she was excellent...

I have all of her books too...

I picked up a Paulo Coelho box set which was £9.99 reduced from £39.95 in the works the other day. I have just started on 'The Valkyries'...

As for others I have read some Deepak, still want to get the tibetan book of living and dying. I have been promising myself a proper in depth read of the Koran and the Torah (but I do not know when that is going to happen). I still have to finish 'A course in Miracles'

I normally get alerted about these kind of books via a free magazine called the Cygnus review. Informative and it lets you read snippets of the book before you buy them...

As for the lack of inspiration, I don't really feel the need to buy anything else as I feel I know just about as much as I want to know... Once you know, you can't go back to a state of unknowing... So, I could continue just for the fun of it, keep accumulating books, but I know enough (although I don't know it all)... and the subsequent knowledge that I have learned has just served to reaffirm my truth...

I feel same as you.. there isn't anything to really know.. only to be re-minded or to re-member cos all is within us..

think I am going to library and just order books until I come across something that's worth buying..

free - I'm sure you've read Celestine Prophecy and are aware of syncronisties.. there are no accidents.. we were meant to talk/exchange gifts .. so plse don't be surprised if I hit you up in pm mode sometime..

The Healing Wisdom Of Africa by Malidoma Patrice Some....I just can't seem to get enough of it....Its a book about US for US and full of the spiritual germs of our ancestors that we have lost over the years because of our introduction to worldy Religions......

Read this book....its good for your soul to discover what great wisdom our ancestors left usniceone.gif

Eskay, Well sis....niceone.gif

Honestly you are not meant to read it all at once....you need time to digest it all i guess....it can be soo true and conflicting with the rubish that we have been fed that you DO need time to put it down and think! Lol....but glad you are enjoying it though....:)

How is the other book by Abs going??;)

Very late on this one I know... just signed up..and suddenly looked in first topic and someone is mentioning one of my favorite authors Paulo Coehlo.

The Alchemist touched me profoundly, actually backpacked across Spain  two years ago because of that book, it stirred old dreams that I had long forgotten.  The Pilgrimage is also very good, took me awhile to get past the first chapter with mention of swords, knights templar and such, but the book is really deep, talks of love, the different stages, levels, even the dark side of love.  Talks about fighting the good fight, which isn't how it sounds, and yet is.  Arranged with my job in the beginning to let me take a month off to do the road of Santiago because of that book..but never got around to it and oppurtunity passed.  Needless to say his books have effected me greatly...not all of his books just a few.

As far as Deepak Chopra someone mentioned...Gift of Love is incredible and a very short read, if you ever get a chance to pick up th spoken word CD (of the same name..avoid the second CD at all cost..some things are only made once..the mold is broken and thats it) its by Deepak and Friends everyone from Martin Sheen, to Rosa Parks are speaking on this CD, music and words blend to perfection...and must be listened to in unhurried, uninterrupted silence.  Then move onto The Essential Rumi by Coleman Barks (my advice drink slow, and get drunk on Rumi at your own pace).

Finally, The Prophet, by Khalil Gibran (I have seen the cover often throughout a lifetime of bookstores and anyone who has read it said it is great blah, blah, blah)  Truelly, the book is worthy of all its praise and the author actually drew the pictures in the book.  Sorry for the longwind those are my two pennies.
