"The Architects of Rap: Poison in Our Culture"
by Les Taha
Book Description
What does the Klu Klux Klan and hip-hop music have in common? They are both enemies of African Americans. The only difference being that hip-hop is a thousand times more deadly.
This according to, "The Architect of Rap" A controversial and politically incorrect new book of satirical cartoons and biting commentary by African American cartoonist and author Les Taha.
In it, he states that contrary to popular belief, racial discrimination is no longer the biggest problem facing African Americans. The biggest problems today are broken families and immoral behavior, which in turn leads to many other problems such as high incarceration rates, drug use, lack of education, and economic weakness.
But it’s more than a book about the hip-hop culture. It’s really about the American culture and the poisonous elements that’s been infused into it, hip-hop being a prime example.
Using a potent blend of very humorous cartoons and insightful commentary, Les Taha clearly illustrates how hip-hop music with its heavy emphasis on promiscuous sexual behavior and the glorification of, "gangsta life" is actually encouraging and promoting the very behaviors that are causing the biggest problems in the African American community.
His position is that rap and hip-hop is the new, improved vehicle for the same old degrading stereotypes of the past, but what makes it so effective this time around is that instead of being offended by them, many African Americans actually embrace them. As a result, distorted, slanderous stereotypes are turning into realities.
In one section he blasts hip-hop’s blatant promotion and glorification of "playerism" the very thing that is greatly contributing to the extremely high rate of African American infants born to unwed mothers (nearly 70%) and to the further deterioration of the African American family.
In another section he argues that with an incarceration rate of African American males projected by the U.S. Dept. of Justice to soon be at 28%, the entertainment industry’s promotion of the type of rap music that glorifies and glamorizes the thug life, criminality, and criminal attitudes to a people with such a serious crime problem is like throwing gasoline on a burning man.
Much of the book’s wrath is aimed at the rulers of the entertainment industry, comparing them to drug dealers who while filling a market demand for their product, are unconcerned about the tremendous harm their product is causing in the society.
He also sets his sights on what he calls the weapon of ultra-liberalism. He humorously illustrates in a very surprising way how there is very little difference between extreme liberalism and old fashion racism showing how both view African Americans in the same negative way and both support the very things that are destroying them.
The Architects of Rap is a surprisingly powerful book. It skillfully weaves quotes, statistics, humorous cartoons, and insightful commentary together to produce a stinging indictment of the hip-hop culture and more importantly, the entertainment industry that produced it. After reading this, you may never look at this slice of American popular culture in the same way again.
Inside Flap copy
Throughout the years, African Americans have been portrayed in some pretty negative ways. Just reflect on some of the stereotypical images that were around in the mid- 1800s to 1900s.
And while most of us look back on those old stereotypes with utter disdain, how many of us realize that there are new stereotypes out there that are much worse than the old?
Rap / hip-hop music, videos, magazines and so on, portray African Americans as being violence-prone, criminal, promiscuous and stupid."

I saw this brotha on "Tony Brown's Journal" this morning and he says that his main premise is that publishing company executives and the rest of the media magnates are putting the negative images out there to destroy the minds of our youth. When he made that statement, I had to agree with him 100%.
