Coltrane did a recent post about reading...and the idea that maybe we do not read enough...

Anyone down for having a blacknet book club...have a featured book each month and get online and talk about it?

@Soofresh...

I dunno, I think we should do one book of any genre each month...that way we get a broad cross section...and maybe people might learn more about a genre that they would not normally read...

God, dont like uglysounds interesting what is it about?

@free

I have not read it yet? but my friend recommended it?

The first book took me 4 weeks to hunt down!

The fact that it sold out , shows it is a good book.

But, you have to have both volumes to get a feel of the full story.

Otherwise why dont you choose a book, I have over 260 books dating from my first one which was "Yush, Excess and Yardie" 1996 collectors items they are LOL

Just tell me which book and I will go and get it.

Free: I think thats an excellent idea....I'm currently reading 'East of Arce Lane' by Alex Wheatle....a fictional account of black life just before the first Brixton Riots in 1981....

Although I've read the Isis papers & Destruction of Civilisation, It would be interesting to reread these books and have a debate on the content and relevance of these works..

@Kunjufu

I have read "East of Arce Lane"

good book

try "checkers" as well it has the same London underground feel.

@free

since people are in the middle of reading books, we all need to decide on a date and a book , so that we can all start together.

I'd like to join too and the 8th of November is a good start date for me.  I'd imagine the book title will need to be decided upon at least a couple of weeks in advance to allow everyone sufficient time to get a copy... I have no suggestions to offer I'm afraid... I've not read anything other than text books/journals for ages now... really looking forward to something different though...

I am really interested in being a part of this, how do we know when everyone has finished the book? will be be talking about it while we are reading or waiting till we have all finished to start debating/discussing?

so we all start reading the selected book on the 8th of november? Sounds really good, I wouldnt mind reading "god dont like ugly", but ive already voted, the odds dont look too good at the moment.

Cant wait!

Free,

I like to read and I'm always glad to see that there people interested in books. After a hectic work schedule, I'm finding a little time doing some reading. A neighbor of mine gave me a book while she was at a Christian conference in Tennessee. The book is called DORIE: The girl that nobody love. Man, I cannot, absolutely cannot believe some of the incredible abuse that this woman have went through from a child until adulthood this lady had to put up with mental, physical, verbal, spiritual abuse from just about everybody in her familial circle and her foster homes. compared to how I'm telling a brief thing about her life, my words are tamed. What this lady have been through is( my god!) downright awful. It's just so freakin incredibly unreal. If you read her book, I promise that you would think the lady is exaggerating. That is how bad her situation was

But at the end, she survives all of this for a reason: There are people out there who needs her. People who need a shoulder to cry on, people who need a buddy who will undestand themand people who can overcome their obstacles no matter what. If you ever read this book, you may say to yourself" Wow, ithought I had some problems?"I also like this book because Dorie is a survivor. through her book she tells me that sometimes we go through trials and tribulations to becomes witnesses for other people, to test /build our faith in god and that we can overcome anything if we put our faith in him( god). Her books make me understand a lot of things about life. I think that my faith in the lord may have went up a notch because of her book.

I am currently reading a book by Gabriel Garcia Marquez called living to tell a tale and I am enjoying it.

I have read the Isis Papers and I remember I read wreched of the earth by Fanon back intime whn I was in chool..it was a real eye opener from the pan africanist with a socialist ideology

I think a book club would be fine but we need some guidelines and how we would get about it..I hope moderators would help us with some guidance.
