The first part of this book is HARROWING! To THE POINT is an understatement
I am just over half way through, I do like what I am reading, although it can be repetitive at times!
Has anyone here read this book? What were your thoughts?

| This book has caused a stir at my work place........I've just read the beginning myself but seeing as it wasn't mine I've put it down on my xmas list and I fully intend to read it regardless.....It kinda reminds me of that book "Ugly" by Constance Briscoe..When you've finished give us a review please!!

| It is very inspiring it will be one those stories that you quote when showing just how someone can totally transform their life if they are determined enough. What I hated was the experiences that she had whilst in care. It was so fraustrating, to see her so powerless, and with out a voice.

This book was OK.
Very repetative, call me hard but I was running out of patience with the adult Cupcake, glad she pulled herself up and broke free from the drugs/lifestyle. But I have a feeling this is not the final book.....................

This book is abosolutely brilliant i did not put it down until the end. Quite inspiring and very similar to Ugly. It has stirred up a lpt of feelings about the system and what i find harrowing is that there are young people in care who have undergone similar experiences from our social services system.
What a refreshing and pleasant read

| Yea I finally read the book and like one of the previous posters the drug taking thing was a bit drawn out and repetitive so I had to skip a couple of pages however it was a very good read.......very inspiring shes been down a long hard road and I'm glad shes on top.......I couldn't believe that bit at the end when she was explaining that the daughter of her foster mother got in contact with her and basically dismissed the things Cupcake had been through especially when Cupcake reminded her about how she made her lose her baby where the girl just "chuckled".....

Shockolate,
I just put her book on hold for myself. I'm very interested in reading her autobiography. I was watching an interviewing with her on the Moontel Williams show and she relaly inspired me. What amazed me about Cupcake was the fact that she has went through so much. Mom's death, father's abandonment, beame a run away, prostitute and crack addict, then she turned her whole life around and now she is this big-time lawyer with a very prestigious law firm. I cannot wait to read her book because I like to read about people persevering. Most times , when we heasr stories like Cupcake Brown, we're ready to condemn her and write her off. Just go to show that we should never give up on people no matter how bad it may look.

Im reading this book, I got for christmas at first i weren't excited about reading since im doing a masters in social work and i am already over loaded with stories like this so a bit of escapism was needed, however the other day i thought let me read it, I read 200 pages in one day, im at the section now where shes talking about gangster life, however i found it to be a great insight. My parents were foster carers for 15 years, fostering 22 children altogether and we gave them such a loving hom, but what she went through was disgraceful, how the care system was in the 70's. Thank god its not like that now, however as i have learnt the system has gone to the other extreme!

When I saw this book in a magazine, I really wanted to read it, being that I have had
a rough life growing up. I cant remember how many pages I have to go, but not too
many. I do like it, but she went a little long about her drug addiction, almost like that
one part in 'New Jack City,' where Pookie was talking about his addiction to crack,
like he was reminscing on those days, I kinda got that feel from her.... but I plan to
finish it to the end and try to (eventually) find out how she went from there to where
she is now. I think that it is an inspiring book.

I have just finished reading the book for the second time and it is excellent.
I found it a powerful book, very upsetting but inspiring.
True the drug talk was very repetitive but i think that showed the growth of Cupcake.
Parts of the book made me mad, angry, upset and smile.
Things that Cupcake wrote I would nod my head in agreement.
Its sad to see that there are actually foster carers out there and social workers who really do not have their eye on the ball
A recommended read
