I finally found a black book shop in Finsbury park, after trekking from Cambridge. I stepped in and immediately wanted everything........., cards, books, childrens books, jewellry etc..................heaven lol!!! The guy in the shop was brilliant too, but my only problem were the prices for the books. I would prefer to support my own but when l looked at the prices of the books I was surprised. I usually buy my books from Amazon and the prices in the book shop were double wat they are on amazon!
What to do? Has anyone ever come across this?

@ Godblessed
One thing you need to appreciate, and this not only applies to black book shops but black retailers in general, is that the cost of the mechandise to the shop dictates the price they can sell it at. Obviously they need to make a profit on the sale but for a small book shop to be able to sell at a price comparable with a big set up like Amazon is asking a lot. Amazon can get the same books at a discount probably double that which the small book shop can, because of the quantity Amazon is buying at. Amazon can afford to bulk purchase whilst a small book shop can only maybe afford to get 50 to a couple of hundred at a time.
I am not saying that this reason accounts for why the black book shop sells at double (is that a fact?) the price of Amazon, but if we allow the price factor alone to dictate whether we buy from our own, then black businesses are bound to lose out everytime.
As players in the commercial game we black people don't yet have enough control and influence over the various stages in the production and supply processes to dictate the cost that hits the final consumer to the deree that other people (e.g. the Whites, the Asians, the Jews) do.
Sure some of our businesses may be trying it on a bit with the profiteering stuff (business of all shades are guilty of that), but don't let that cloud your decision about buying from black businesses, because the majority just don't have the capacity to compete with the bigger boys. Only by suppporting our own consistantly and in numbers will black businesses get the chance to grow and become more (hopefully) competitive.
