Devil in a blue dress
Red death
White butterfly
Black Betty
A little yellow dog
Gone fishing
Bad boy brawly Brown

Just started reading these recently and found them to be high quality crime fiction.  The are a series of stories featuring the character Easy and set in the 40s 50s and 60s... They are good crime mystery books but also a great window into America at the time, the race relations and so on.  As the books progress in time, Easy ages and his perspectives change so while the books have a similar feel, they are all umm further along than the others.  The characterisation is a excellent though its not a pretty picture of life that he paints.

I have only read the ones in bold but Im gonna have to read them all now.

I reccomend the series to anyone who likes these sorts of books or even just period peices from those times.

Oh yes, Devil in a blue dress was made into a movie with Denzel Washington.  It was a decent film.  I watched that a few weeks ago so when I saw the book in the shop I checked it out... good decision.

I think Mouse is one of the greatest psychopathic sidekicks ever to appear in any novel. Didn`t think much of the movie - Denzel didn`t have that kind of grizzly edge I had associated with Rawlins,  but Jennifer Beals,  and, Don Cheadle (as Mouse) were very good.

Funny enough I like Mouse as well, even though he is clearly crazy!  How many times he been close to killing Easy over nothing and Easy is his best friend?

I think Easy is scared of the mouse for no reason..Mouse wouldnt ever turn against him..even though Mouse KNOWS that EAsy is screwing his girlfriend. Mouse however seem to thrive on instilling fear in Easy so that he could keep his friendship with Easy and his power over him. Like he is always dropping vague hints about Knowing that Easy is knocking his gf. And he is ALWAYS saving Easy`s life.

Devil in a Blue Dress, Drunk. But I really do like White Butterlfly. Not too ken on Red Death and all this exploration of Jewishness etc. Like it best when Mosely gets back to the roots man. I think Spike Lee should shoot one of his novels, with Moseley writinf the screeplay. Lee is not very good with screenplays, and he shouldn`t sit alone in the editing suite lol.

I just finished Bad boy Brawly Brown.  I thought that was great.  Its the one where a group of young revoloutionarys are infiltrated by a police rat who tries to get some of them to go off on a heist so the cops can arrest them and discredit the group.  Easy has to get Brawly out of the trouble he is getting wrapped up in.  All the subplots make that a good one.  Also the generation difference between Easy and his peers and the younger dudes, some of the people who dont wanna hear "that black sh*t" and the political ones... so much action in one book.
