Just finished reading this book, I found it really good. And the author is home grown talent (from London). The main gist of the book, is that an important Black Mp daughter is murdered and a Black private investigator job is to uncover why and who did it. It is definetly worth reading, i was just wondering, if anyone has read that book or in fact any of his other books? Society within or The Scholar?

Yes! I thought it was an excellent read. I loved the way he used London and I enjoyed the way I was kept guessing right to the end. I hope to see more from this author.

Glad i'm not the only person that has read his books!!Yeah you'll def like it precious stone if you like detective stories. His other books are really good too, the scholar imparticualrly but its based around 18-19 year olds, so depending on your age it might not be your kind of thing.

I've ordered it and I should receive it by the end of the week. Heaven knows why its taking so long, when they said it would be despatched within 2 days.

Anyway, Im looking forward to reading it.

LOL, I'm far, far from that age bracket. I've already order his other books, but nontheless I'll read them. Thanks.

I'm also truly far from the age you are talking about. I know Courttia is of different generation to myself but it's interesting that you should mention 'age' as I heard someone mention the other day that they are not happy about the 'type' of current Black writing i.e, that there is not enough good prose (in other words not enough attention paid to the handling of English language!) and too much street (too much attention paid making sure the characters are keeping it real!) and they felt Courttia's Snakeskin fell into the latter category.

I was told if I read anything by Mike Phillips (click on link to take you to all the books he has written - http://www.twbooks.co.uk/authors/mikephillips.html), he used to produce Black TV programmes (with his brother Trevor) such as 'Black on Black' and was once the editor for the newspaper West Indian World before he turned to writing crime novels featuring Black characters and set in North London.  I have to say, after reading Point of Darkness, it has to be classed as good writing and clearly a good novel but then, I still think there is room for Courttia's/Yardie approach to writing. He captures the energy and vibe of the Black youth accurately, and for an older writer, it might be difficult (and could even be embarrasing!) to get the speech patterns right but what do you all think?

You'll be pleased to know that my book came today. I picked it up a few moments ago and started to read. I'm already on page 25. You all were right, it definitely is a page turner. He certainly knows how to keep you wanting to carry on reading. I'm itching to get back to it.

Usually if a book doesn't grab me after the first 3-4 pages, down it goes, never to be picked up.

'Society Within' came as well but the other one was too big to get through the letter box, so I'll have to go and collect it from the Post Office.

That was a good recommendation.

This is the first of his books I'm reading, and remembering that I'm only on page 25, the street language is not too bad. What I have read so far fits in with the characters and culture.

I'll come back with more details.
