About two years have gone by now, and still my book, Iceberg Slim: The Life As Art seems impossible of access in the UK.
Local libraries say it is "unavailable" --whatever that means, while Amazon.uk are demanding an inordinate sum for the sale there of. Its true retail price should be around 11-12 quid. They slate it at around 50 plus, no wonder people are not exactly pole-vaulting to buy it.
So whatever anyone can do to get it to the UK. Most of any profits from it are slated for the great Philadelphia ghetto, from whence its inspiration derives.
Thumper, at AALBC, has been kind enough to call the book: "Deep, a truly fine work of literary criticsm" while Andrew Vacchs stated: "It should be in every library" (it is in none).
The Life as Art contains rare photos, plot breakdowns, a Parallel Chronology, outlining major Slim and major African American historical events, and it was written in close collaboration with Mrs. Diane Millman Beck, Ice's widow.
Not wishing to whine overmuch, I'll leave it there for now. Whatever anyone can do, will be grateful. Thanks for being out there.
Pete Muckley, new kid on the block.
