Abs...

No reason :)

I'm reading a brilliant book called...

Writen by a husband and wife team analysing all it says on the front and much more.  So far I'd say it should be essential reading for most of us in this turbulent and bewitching modern age.

Its briliant....a must read book for ALL Africans! Most of this kinds of books are written by diaspora Africans, this one is written by one from teh continent and i think its a must read because it would educate us here about the impact of colonialism on continental African minds as well, something thats always overlooked when people are blabing about why Africa is in such a mess.

I'd also definitely recommend the above book.  I bought it after I saw Drunkmonkeys endorsement of it, and I agree it's very insightful.

Hah! Mesmerised I after I read the book I could see it's influence in your posts.

When you say it must be read by "ALL Africans," are you including us too in the West who have disconnected roots to Africa?

I'm currently reading The West and the Rest of Us: White predators, Black slavers and the African elite (New Edition) by Chinweizu published by Pero Press. This preceded Decolonizing the African Mind. Very informative and enlightening. I've read it before, but it was a long time ago, I was a bit young at the time and didn't take it all in. Although I've never taken anything that 'mainstream' society/the west has to say about us at face value, this book has certainly influenced the way I see relations between the Africans and the west and my overall world view. I would also recommend this book highly, perhaps even more so than Decolonizing the African Mind (especially to those who have posted in the Did Africans Really Sell Their Continent To The White Man Like How They Sold Slaves? thread).

I just came back from a Chinweizu frenzy...

@ Abz & Mez

I just bought Decolonizing the African Mind, however, I was disappointed that there was no hardcover.  I try to buy all my books in hardcover.  Also his books are more expensive for me since he doesn't have a U.S. publisher.

I also bought Chinweizu's Anatomy of Female Power.  He states on the cover of the book

"For all men who have been confused, misused and abused by women, particularly since the coming of feminism; and definitely not for women."
Although he says it not for women, perhaps you two could pick it up and read about the actual power that a woman has over a man.  I have not read it yet, but it seems like it could be a rather different by  interesting perspective.

@ nsogbu1562

I just picked up The West and the Rest of Us as well.  It is certainly in my reading queue of books.

Well, I'm reading "The Great Mother" by Erich Neumann.  It's an analysis of the female archetype.  Boring as heck but I have to read it for my paper.

I read this book in one day after seeing this woman on the Tyra Banks Show. It wasnt bcz it was a particulary well written book....it was just gripping bcz it was full of gossip! I couldnt believe how many of these celebrities this woman had slept with and her whole attitude towards sex and 'love'. If it wasnt for the celebrity names I probably wouldnt have been so gripped by a book about a loose, easily influenced, confused girl/woman who sleeps with guys for money.

I also recently read the Coldest Winter Ever by Sister Souljah...really gripping story about a young girl who's brought up in a family whose life style is financed by drugs money and the inevitable downfall that leads to...I think it would emphasise to a lot of youths/people making money that way that it really doesnt last forever!
