I'm reading Beloved by Toni Morrison after watching the movie (starring Oprah Wimfrey). It's deep.

The Tiger of Ch'in.... how China became a nation..

Leonard Cottrell

This book charts the ancient history of China, and mainly about the first emporer Shih Huang-Ti who with the aid of his great councillor Li Ssu united the whole of China which was previously a land of divided rival feudal states constantly at war with each other and the huns.  How the Chinese peoples developed from ancient nomadic tribes, to nations through agricultural and political development in the background section is in itself very interesting.

How they together, burned the ancient wisdom of the learned before them and set about creating new history.  How they standardised the country and built the great wall and the language.  Talks about all the previous arguments popular in the east about "how should man be governed" and showed with examples, the successes and failures of preceeding reigemes.  The downfall of Ch'in and the rise of the Han was also a good illustration of this, the writer does a good job of explaining all this here.

Though Im not new to the subject myself, I think those who are would find it a good read.  Quite balanced on the figures, not to praiseworthy or cynical either...

Written in the 60s and suffers from the prejudice of it's age but when reading old books you get used to that and read between the lines.  Lot's of useful info inside.  Though it is a factual book, it reads like a narrative.  He starts by telling us of as assasination attempt by a man called Ching-Ko on the young Shih Huang-Ti who was then under another name and only a king of one of the small feudal states... the assasination attempt failed.   From then the story gets going.

I am currently reading Children of the Matrix by David Icke. I think all black people should take the time to read this, if only to disagree with it. It offers a challenging alternative view of the world we are living in today, and suggests it is time to wake up.

Humanity's future and destiny is being shaped, controlled and manipulated by a hidden elite of "questionable" origins, motives and integrity. See whether you agree or whether there is any thing in this highly detailed argument.

I'm currently reading but im almost finished "the confessions of Nat Turner" by William Styron and its a good book but I dont know what to think about some of the things the book says.  For one, they are saying that Nat Turner had homosexual experiences with a fellow slave and a ex-white overseer and that Nat Turner was obsessed with sexing white women but prayed to god to get the thoughts out of his head. It also says that Nat was raised as a house negro and was taught by his mother to hate the dirty negros in the field that were beneath them but his master sold him and he was no longer a house negro and became a field hand and is why he couldnt take it anymore and wanted to kill all white people because his ex-master promise to free him instead tricked him and sold him.  I don't know if any of this is true.  The book is old as hell like 1950's and the author says he got his information from the journals Nat kept since he could read and write.  Despite the gay stuff it was a good book but I don't know what to believe now.

Dan Brown - Angels and Demons

The Greater Key of Solomon <--haven't really started yet.

I read a couple pages everyday of each. But I'm really into the 48 laws of power almost done with it. I would recommend it you folks. Somebody said that this is the book president Bush is reading.

I love the 48 laws of power and Ive read it over and over again many times its that good.  I even go back from time to time to look at a chapter.  I also loved the book written by the same author "the art of seduction". lol, the book change my life and how I look at people.  I read "the Seven habits of highly effective people" in college but I just skimmed through it to past the test so i didnt absorb it really.

One For New York - by John A. Williams

This book is only 181 pages long so is a really quick but BRILLIANT read.  I have about 4 pages left to read but must say how great this book is.

It's about a black man in the early '60's trying to get a job as a writer in New York. He has the education and the experience but is having a really hard time.  It's based on the author's true experiences and it really does have the ring of truth to it.  There are some really moving bits and some real funny bits - the bit that had me cracking up on the bus this morning:

"I was gonna kill me a white man within the next few minutes."

This is what the main character says when he decides to batter his friend from college days after the man has come round accusing him of sexing his wife and trying to fight him.

Another funny bit: "Once Lois had asked me if she looked sickening, her colour, and I had said no, but I had not told her the truth.  Sometimes when I was with her I could understand why suntanning was so popular."

This is him talking about a white girl he is seeing.

The book deals with the difficulties he runs into while working in an office with only white female colleagues and a gay white boss, his search for another job, what happens when he starts dealing with a white girl, what happens when he is trying to find a place to live, his relationship with his dead brother's wife who happens to be his childhood sweetheart, etc etc.  It is a really deep book in some ways and the writer I think is such a talent that I will definitely try to get my hands on some of his other books.

The book is published by Payback Press in the UK but was originally published in the US by Ace Books under the title 'The Angry Ones'

I'v just picked up SNAKESKIN by Courttia Newland.  He is being touted as the new big thing in urban London writing.

This one is about the daughter of a black MP who gets killed.  I haven't started it yet but apparently it involves the police not solving the murder, far right groups and the nation of Islam... hmm

Will do a proper review when I finsih it.  I've been looking for a good new London writer.

Destruction of the Black Civilisation 4000BC-2000AD by Chancellor Williams. Just started it, but I like how in the Preview he sets out what his study is about, how he went about his study why this study is imperative (even encourages ppl to take it upon themselves) and the troubles he went through with some countries (namely the Arab run states).

Im liking his style of writing so far-he is not talking in riddles.
