And by that I dont mean classmates....or colleagues you have pleasant chats with...
I mean best friends, 'best man at your wedding' kind of friends, 'he/she knows more about me than anyone else' type of friend
.... I used to watch this show called 'Any Day Now' about a white woman and a black woman who grew up during the sixties in the south of the US...They were best friends despite all types of difficulties and whatnot...
It had me thinking that I dont have any white friends like that, in fact, all my best CLOSE friends are black.
I can have fun with people of other race, laugh and have serious talks, but when it comes down to it, I dont see them as my good and close friends....
I was just wondering what the case is with you guys
Am I missing out?

.....I' ve got a white friend I’ve known since primary school, he's now in the army, I also went to his wedding reception....
my mums keeps in regular contact with a white mum of one of my former primary school frineds.

I had a lot more White friends (or Jewish in some of the cases), than Black and couldn't help but the have them because my environmment , my schooling and unfortunately, when I was a very sensitivelittle Black girl, I turned to them because the Black kids were( the ones that I grew up with) jeering me for being " White". They were more than my business associates. Far as the White people I was raised around, it was a" family affair "and what I mean that is that for example(s) 1) We played with them, were invited over their home for dinner, took us with their kids skating or bike riding if her got in trouble we would run to each others houses for shelter)2) I used to call me street" Wild Kingdom"( After that show) because everything crazy went on there. There were also interracial dating/marriages "ho-ing" around with them and they were open and aproved. Even ith one of my White friends, there were rumors that her White " father"(?!?!) was raising another man's kid as some said the biological father was Black or Native American. It's 2007 and as of this day, some of the Black neighbors here reminisce about those crazy days. It was rellay something else!I remembered one of my good friends. She was White, but she ( I had mentioned on here before) hated her OWN people, other White people, but to me she was a good friend because she was always there in my time of crisis, she wasn't one of type of White girl that were only good friends to a point...she was really all good. In general, we had deep friendships.
If there is one thing life has taught me is not to let one's classification dictate who is the better person. I have know good people from all races, just as I know may bad ones. Sometimes, I hate it when people say, " We can't/don't have anything in common because of ---------------) I often wondered what do ones background have to with them as a person? Don't get me wrong, my eye is open to those who pretend to like me, but if they are as good as my other friend, then I would be cool with them.

I have friends period.
I have little interest in their colour more in their personalities, Character ,morals and values.
If they meet the standards their in. If not I dont' want to know them at which point I might recognise what colour or lack of character they have.

I pretty much grew up in an all white area in the suburbs, went to a school where there were only 2 other black people that I can remember and had no relatives near me of a similar age so I've got white friends. Funnily enough I actually didn't have any real black friends until I was about 13 because when I went to secondary school I tried to be friends with most of the black kids who were still low in numbers because I wanted to have friends who were the same as me and I thought it was dysfunctional to only have white friends. I wanted to connect with them because I felt a strong urge that I wanted to be their friend and it would please my parents but initially as CeeCee said many of them they would say I was 'too white' (whatever that is) and I was ridiculed. It didn't help that I lived in Enfield whilst most of the black kids came from Tottenham or Edmonton as I couldn't get the bus with them after school where the real fun happened. It was with sheer irony that my first real black friendship was with a girl who had also been rejected for being 'too white!lol
Now I'm 30 I would say that I have a 50/50 mix of black, white and a couple of mixed race friends. Surprisingly though I've never had an Asian friend. I was friends with a Chinese girl for a while but the fact that her parents wouldn't speak English in my presence made me feel suspicious of them and I also had an Indian friend when I was very young but her older sister was a racist so I stopped hanging out with her because even at that young I wasn't going to tolerate racism. Since then I've never had an Asian friend and unfortunatley the ones I've come into contact with since have been sneeky and were masters at lying.

NO - weren't allowed to play with the white kids too much when i was little and the white kids in school kept themselves to themselves.
At Secondary school i formed relationships with a few asian girls who i see occasionally now. Always got on better with the asians in the workplace too.
Only really have 2 white 'friends' and they are both from work, one scots, married to an albanian and one Spanish.

No.
Even though I grew up in Enfield and went to majority white schools including one private school.
The few that I was around in secondary school were racist, BNP supporters on the real. Myself and a few other breddahs got the, ''but you're alright'' treatment and they'd openly vomit racial BS like, ''Its all about black vs white innit!?''. There were a few of us breddahs in the crew and a few irish about as well, we were all tougher than them and they wouldn't go NEAR a black area, theres a border, Palmers Green, where the population gets more Greek, Turkish and Black toward the North Circular. I live in Palmers Green. The white kids wouldn't go near there at all and would have beef with diffrent crews and were always afraid of Black crews who'd roll up to Enfield and cause trouble, they'd call us the Black NF cause we chilled with the crakkkers.
As said I didn't live in their area and kept my roots alot more than those who did, others would chill in black areas and more or less bring trouble to Enfield, my bredwin is like a 6 foot 8 tonks street tough David Lammby .lol. Hes still in prision for some BS. All the local bad bwoy drug dealers were either black or irish. Got to the point where I got pissed off at their BS after a crew nearly killed me in a beef and I stopped chilling in that area. Cowper Gardens. Its notorious. Cause I used to skip around like most of us Black and other kids who went to the school in Enfield and chilled around the area I didn't know how gangish things had got so only got myself in more trouble chilling with people in my own area. As they were mixed, Greek, Turkish and Black.
Fell out with the Greeks as my friends family turned racist on me, they thought I was some dumb poor N****r, and literally took to turning their back on me on the street, literally. Other peeps in the local crews started turning against me and things got dangerous... used to stay in and hide out here on BNV to keep off the street .lol. Cause the greeks are all close and I lost my friend the local crew, mixed, Greek, Turk and some idiot blacks who are more or less thug dogs for Turkish and Greek gangs kinda outsted me from their crew and even talked about shooting/robbing me. Not nice. My dad warned me about my friend a while ago, they only act black and think we'e cool but don't respect us. A lot of black youths out there don't see that.
Because I stopped chilling with the other crew up north they aren't too friendly either and were also looking to cause me trouble one prick in particular who'd I'd love to tear to peices, Adam, they go around robbing drug dealers and stuff but as I nearly died and have scars from fighting for them they'll probably leave off. Have to be weary of the local crew, would kick off a beef if they tried it. Not as though I've done anything to anyone. Its all racism and envy. It runs deep with those people, the turks and the greeks... all of them in general, miseducation, a lot of them look down on us and think we're all into something assuming you've sold some crack to get a new jacket or some BS and think they can cause you trouble for little or no reason. Have never been a drug dealer or anything, used to be a theif, drug dealing was never my thing. .lol. Family even tried to get me to be a locksmith... Thats deep Apedamek. I am aware of the Turks racisim, but to be honest with you I do not really encounter any Greeks.
On the subject of white friends. Hmmmm, I am the kind of person who can chill with anyone , but to be honest with you, even though I have made friends with various white people, I wouldn't say I am close to any of them. If I see them Ill talk with them.There is not any white person who I will say is in my inner circle of friends I know I can talk about certain thgings with.
With the Asians, I get on with some of them, however I find them extremly dodgy at times.
I went to Uni in the Midlands and what I noticed was that the Asian girls were safe with me, however if they see you outside Uni hours and they are with a group of males they will blank you. The Asian guys are kinda split. Some I could mingle with TOO AN EXTENT, others were straight up racist.
p.s Also with the females there are some who will suck up to you to get lecture notes
I feel more at home with my Black friends all, in all.

Do I have White friends? No, not since school/college days! ALL of my FRIENDS are Black, as I feel I have nothing in common with them. I like to talk about Black issues and I have a need to feel connected to the people I class as my friends... Work is prob the only place I mingle with non Blacks...that's enough for me.

Quite a few white and Asian friends I guess. Most the blacks up my end tend to prefer the whites anyway so I stopped giving a sh*t a long time ago.

Colour has no bearing on any of my friends we just have to get along. At this minute in time i do not have any close black friends. I would have thought that the majority of black people today living in the UK would have had multi-ethnic friends.
I have had black friends whilst i was at school in sixth form. It was nice to see another black face there. There was only one other black girl in the year then and we connected and we became friends.
At secondary school there was only two other black girls in my year and another black boy and one biracial girl. I was not especially friendly with any of them as we didn't really connect. We all spoke to each other but we were not really close friends.
I did have a close group of black friends a few years ago through art hobby that i was involved in but we all just sort of lost touch.
I have also had Asian close friends as well. My best friends at sixth form college was Eurasian and my close friend at university was Asian. At graduate level i again had black friends but just lost touch.
One thing though raising a black child in mainly white environment and especially females can open them up more to things that are more typically white.

What did they mean by you being too white? Was it because you were light-skinned or because you had 'white mannerisms'?

I have had the same experience with Asian people. They socialice with you to a certain extent in certain places. I have always found them to be a very closed knit group/community.

I've got only 1 black best friend. She'd do anything for me. She's actually mixed but still.
I don't mix with the black girls at my school, I got into a fight with a group of black girls last year. Our mentality is different, I like it calm, they like it loud. I'm not trying to insult them, not at all ... I don't know, I've never really had black friends ... neither has my sister.
Although, I don't see them as 'black' girls, rather 'girls'.
