| It is hard to say. I think it depends on how long it has been since the breakup and whether you are over the person or not. Unsettled feelings can certainly cloud judgement. However, I would say that there isn't a single ex girlfriend that I would go back to.

@That depends why you broke up and the issues in question and who is fundamentally at fault...It doesn't follow that the person who is dumped for want of a better term is completely at fault in any shape of form...It can be your own atttitudes at the time which was part of that problem no matter how insignificant....
Abs is right you ended for a reason but experience teaches how insignificant that may, or may change with time and maturity..I know I was brutal as a young man in my twenties where women stepped out of line or broke the rules of engagement...They were gone and it was that simple...A young man has far more to prove than an older one who has done it and knows it and can deal in a more balanced manner than thinking how this may look or need to teach this woman and all women who they are f**king about with...
Another issue is about personal growth and life goals which each individual has..It might not be possible to go back into an old relationship because you have grown so much or are that type of individual which places that other person in a catch up position from the off which is not a good place to start any relationship...
But it does happen and you hear all the time people getting married to an old ex and that type of stuff.

| It depends on the circumstances of the break up and whether the problem is able to be rectified, providing both parties want to. Most cases I would say no, but it really depends on pros and cons.

This isn't clear cut - it is a matter of opinion.
My outlook is that once I terminate or am terminated from a relationship I don't go back.
If it ended there was a reason for that and there is no need to cover old ground again.
Likely ending with the same negative stalemate type result...
That's just holding you back when you could be pushing forward with your life.
Admittedly it gets a little murky if love is involved...
That's why it's better to cease all contact to ensure you don't tip-toe back in a moment of weakness...
IMHO.

i am reading this one month after people have stopped leaving messages.. some of the images and words are harsh.
I personally think going back to an ex is a decision that has to be carefully thought through. They may be your Ex but are they truelly the same person... go back to an ex is not always going backwards. In your or their absence you may realise that you to were imortant to each other and growing, or that they may just have been a stepping stone in your life.
People must never forget that you only get one chance at life, and that sometimes breakups have to happen in order to grow and learn more about your self and the opposing person.
Just look at your life and theirs and ask one question do they make you happy? not as they were as they are now... and are you throwing away some thing that is good for you?
The only reason i would go back to my ex is if i thought we would make each other happy... if no then there is no point...? with the exception of one i dont have any negative thoughts about my ex's we all grew apart... through our life and goals... moving to different places... etc... so if any of them wanted to get back with me, i could very possibly say yes
