You can try using peroxide (over 2% at the drug store)

Use one part water to three parts peroxide. Apply with cotton balls or squares. Try this for a few weeks and you will se a difference. It is not expensive and it will kill the bacteria that cause the bumps to have pus (which means infection)

Try this on your face as well after shaving. it will help you to have less bumps.

Good luck!

Damm your barber could be a bit more helpful.

My Barber charged me £40 for the Andis 4 years ago & its still going strong.

He even adjusted it for me.

It was a lot of money but money well spent.

At the end of the day the barber should help you out !!!

The barber who sorted me out is still going strong & I know if you wanted

a shaver ( yes you would pay over the odds ) he could get one for you.

Drop me a line & i'll pass on the shops details to you.

he's right you have to get into the habit of washing and shaving your face everyday if you are going to keep it shaved this is apart of good grooming. no offense!

after you shave just get some jamaican over proof white rum by j wary and nephew and splash that over your face. it may sting a little but it does help. my hubby does that. if ya get an ingrown hair bump reach for the tweezers.

Whoever 1xPK is talking to:

Man just get a pair of Oster T-Liners and adjust the blade.

You can shave as close as you like and never have to worry about bumping again.

I dry shave as well. I use those little beard clippers and when Im done, I use

medicated spirit to clean afterwards. It burns a lil bit, but my face is smooth!!

i cut hair a little bit..and here is the thing u do and if u get a razor bump what works best

if u own any hair clippers..line up ur face and everything like that first..take a shower and let the water hit ur face to make the hair on ur face softer..then put shaving cream on ur face (dry shave sh*t dosent work..ur asking for razor bumps with that)let the shaving cream sit for like 2 minutes then shave with a sharp razor..i only use a razor twice then throw it away

and the best thing for razor bumps is BUMP STOPPER

-PLEASE READ THIS, COS I COULD REALLY DO WITH SOME HELP!!-

Here's my situation:

"Im a 21yr old afro-caribbean male with very thick and coarse facial hair which grows rapidly and over my whole cheek area and neck. I suffer badly from razor bumps and have spent way too much time and money on finding sumthing to get rid of the problem. To make things worse, shaving tools for black men in England are way below par especially in Manchester where i live.

I have tried most of the recommended solutions including:

#1- Clean shaving (with the recommended single blade razors) and using tendskin afterwards,  this worked for a while but dried out my skin and made things worse. Witch Hazel didnt work either.

#2 - Shaving with clippers, the only ones i can get hold of are "Wahl what a shavers!" clippers (nowhere has those great sounding T-outliners i hear so much about), these are designed for black men but just scratch-up my skin and leave it sore.

#3 - I have even tried growing a beard (even though it is required that i am clean shaven for work and the fact that i dont like the way i look with a beard) but my hair is so thick and coarse that EVEN THIS brings me out in bumps!

Im DESPERATE for some relief now and hope you can give me some good advice, because its really starting to get me down and effect my confidence.

Thanx in advance

Dru (aka Afrochild)

Good advice Reuben, but i think i was a lil over zealous with the use of "required", its more frowned upon. Plus i really dislike having a beard, kinda prefer myself with a cleaner shaven luk.

Went to the doctors today and got a mad supply of antibiotics to take dwn the swelling(my bumps r pretty bad at the mo), and they've forwarded me to a dematologist (there aint no way thats spelt rite hehe, u no wat i mean though the skin doctor).

Im suprised i got a reply from you guys so fast though, im really impressed.

Hope to get more good advice soon.

Dru (Aka Afrochild)

Peace

@DM Have you tried BumpStopper 2, it works quite well I use it all the time, and my friend had some mad bumps, recommended it to him, and it cleared within 2 days.

I have still yet to try the T-Liner though, prob get it this month.

Back when I was in college I had a friend who used to come in every day in the hottest weather with a big beenie hat sweating all over the place, clearly hiding a fro.

Everyday we would sit about gigglin at this joker, till one day a chick walked by and ripped it off his head, the canteen fell about laughing so hard I swear.  Now he is sitting there steaming getting mad.  Starts going into one.

Yes YES I have a FRO WHAT?  You know, we didnt have combs on the ships, there werent no combs yagetme?  we never had no combs in the fields..

By now everyone is near dying... Says me (with much longer afro) So why hide it under a hat then, sweating in the heat?  Believe me that took near a minute to get out we were laughing that hard.

He looks at all of us (many with longer hair than him) You lot can just f**k off yagetme, you dont know knowledge, you aint ready... with that he puts his hat BACK on again covering the fro he was so riled up about...

After we stopped laughing (which took a while) we were SO confused.  How you gonna lecture us about fros when we rocking long and out there, and you hiding it away?

Dunno why it popped into my head but it made me laugh so much at the time I thought Id share it.  BTW dude is a Uk rapper now making waves LOL.... no more fro either.

those of you complaining about bumps should try dry shaving for gods sakes it might work for you. bumps are realyy ugly i had them b4 and thank jesus iv never had them since i started dry shaving. i got a very fast rapid beard growth too, i use a wahl beard trimmer and it works it for me. if dry shaving dont work for you guys with bumps then its better to see the doctor for some other advice. if u wet shave i think alchohol (worked for me)seems to be a better after shave than all that fancy mumbojumbo after shaves in the market.
