My friend has been telling me  to go there, but everytime I hit brixton on friday, I just kinda prefer Mass, even though sometimes it can be full off hood rats, but the music is good.

For real Cameos is DRY.  It is a big people rave and people must be afraid to dance in there because the dance floor never gets full.  Nightmoves is full of old men who should know better trying it on with younger women! DRY!!!

Blackthought - how old are you and what music do you like as this will help when trying to give you a tip on a nightclub.

Sooofresh - allow going to a rave on New Years Eve, in my experience (and I have raved heavily) its the worst time to go.  The tickets are expensive, they put the price up for the drinks (which are watered down), there is no 'new year atmosphere', you have to say happy new year to loads of people you don't know and don't care to know when you would really prefer to be with with all the people you genuinely like and trying to get home is a nightmare. If you must rave, its better to go on New Years Day. If you truely want to go out, get one of your mates to hold a little house gathering.  Every year me and my key friends plus a couple of others take it in turn to have a few people round.  We just go to the supermarket to stock up on booze and food and trust me its not only cheaper, you are actually with people you like and you dont worry about being kicked out in to the street in the West End at 2am trying to find a double-fare cab!  Just my opinion.

@ sooofresh

a few people have said it already. but repitition for emphasis DO NOT GO TO CAMEO'S, i went there last New Year's, paid £20 and it was shyte. This year Studio 33 is supposed to be good for New Year's.

i think shh rooms in leceister sq. is good, loop bar in croydon, aqua lounge in streatham, sometimes z bar but it's really like a last resort to go to.

@babygirl44

I understand what you are saying, but this will be the first time my parents will allow me to rave for new years eve, so i will take risks, and if it is crap then i will not go next year.

£25??

See now thats why I hate going out to those things... never been big rave on new years or any other event where promoters can blatantly take the piss.

What do you get for your £25? For that money I want fireworks, go-go girls (good ones), Some live PAs (Z lists celebs dont count, I want big famous), I want dancing elephants, Hippos, doing cartwheels, talking dogs, Lion taming, them flame juggler dudes and all sorts but alas...

Its just a greedy jumped up promoter dude lining his pockets making me pay to koch in a big room with sweaty people and too loud music with overpriced watered down drinks and its your bog standard rave, no special vibe, no amazing atmosphere like on telly... Its a regualr rave.

Everyone walking here and there, bumping into you just as you start dance, lil boys screwface each other, women looking at each others clothes blah blah blah nuttin new.

Id rather do like the ol days and go church....

NAH!! just joking:)

regualr drink up with the crew for me.

Next summer when you pass the park look at the posters and see how cheap the circus is lol...

Now £25 is not a lot of money by itself no.  But its what it is for that makes me stop.  Raving dont normally cost more than £10... if it does its a teef and I aint going.

Its like paying £3 for a mars bar.  Not that I aint got £3 but mars bars cost 50p max!!

What if I charged you £5 for a ribena just because today is some bank holiday...

Bollocks!!

All,

A few questions, as i'm totally in the dark about london area clubbin. Are most of the clubs mentioned within this thread black owned & operated? Are the club-goers thereof mostly black or are they multi-racial? Do these clubs have rigid dress code policies? What types of music are played in the clubs? On a typical weekend night, what's the male to female ratios on average?

Z bar & Satay bar niceone.gif

The bug used to be alright... haven't been for a while

The prince of wales (Ugandan owned) Old Kent road just behind the 24hours KFC... ain't a bad place...  Been there a few times and always had a pretty good time... 3 men to 1 woman ratio

Paradis (Sierra Leone owned bar) old Kent road opposite Tescos not a bad place, opened till 2am... only problem at least 5 men to 1 woman ratio, 20-40 age group...

Whispers night club, Elephant&castle, two floors.  The ground floor huge in size, they play African, Latin, Afro beats etc... great music... The above floor R&B and hiphop... Not sure who owns it... 50/50 men to women ratio... Quite young crowd...

Corks is still a good Friday after work hangout... although it's changed a lot in the last year.

Market Bar... Crutched Friars, Algate.  Good Friday hangout as well... good crowd.

Poetry in motion, at motion bar adjacent to Embankment station... Every last Sunday of each month... (7pm-mid night).  Upstairs... playing rare grooves, old skool rnb... Downstairs Spoken word, poetry jam etc... Not a bad place...

@ Caezar

A far as ownership goes I really have no idea.  I do know that many of the events and things we go too are dominated by black promoters and organisers.  I personally know many of them.

The clientelle of the clubs we are naming here tend to be mainly black about 98% with one or two token Asians or white folks.

There are more cosmopolitan clubs with a more diverse racial mix if you want but really... why would you want? lol  I dont like raving to much in that sort of atmosphere.  I can have fun anywhere yes but not actually just BE.

Dress code:  Ths varies from place to place.  Sometimes they are really strict as if you are going to a wedding or something... Very annoying.  Others are completely relaxed.  It tends to be the places with younger crowds and potential for trouble where they take these sorts of measures and have stricter security.  The places with older crowds are far more relaxed but then the older crowd tend to wanna dress up anyway.

Male to female ratio varies and Im not about to expose the places where its in my favour (I want them to myself for a while) but the difference is never really noticeable.  If there were too many men or too many women then a dance wouldnt stay open that long.

The music? well the standard fare is hiphop and RnBwith a lil dancehall but then there are clubs which specialise and focus on other stuff.  The younger crowd like going to ones that play 'grime' or garage or whatever it is now (ask Sooofresh she likes it) and there are loads which are mainly dancehall or whatever.  I like the Soca dances they have, they have the best atmosphere and energy if you just wanna dance and get loose.  There are also those for older people which play mainly roots reggae and lover rock and raregroove and so on... they call it "big people music" LOL  Growing number of dances playing African music but these tend to be private functions, be interesting to see if this catches on.  Mainly Nigerian affairs and you can get in by saying "uncle Tunde sent me" or something like that "Im looking for Aunty Shola" was how I snuck into a barbecue once LOL (I never knew anyone there!)

There are clubs and there are bars and house parties and private events in hired halls and shebeens but they all have different vibes and clientelle.

If you were simpl asking about having a good time here in UK and if the raves have a mainly US crowd then yeah come on down!:)

Man yall got this colour thing going on dont you.Anyway if you hit central london you got big name clubs and you get the chance to meet celebs for those who love being hard core fans. And as for the male to female ratio, if yu got game you will leave with a honey but if yu dont yu just going to suffer like a stocking in a shoe as they say.Yu just feel the pain of not hving to get hold of even one. There are more girls than guys in soho and westend.Trust me.

Gossip - i saw swiss outside Rainforest the other day.Asked him why he aint in, he honestly said he was broke.I guess he was tripping but it allowed. Also helped Crystal palace kid Johnson get a cab although his fellas thought i was going to rob him.sh*t asss fellas think N****r only want mug people.

If you do come to London then all the locations that Djrhettmatix just mentioned are the "cosmopolitan" ones where we are not a majority and there are lots of Asians and whites.  Fine if that is your sort of thing but you wouldnt catch me DEAD in those pretentious overpriced stush dutty places with skanks and goldiggers and fake ballers galore.  Sellouts paradise trust me.   Black men and blond white women and Asian men with black sistas... no thanks.  Stay to the east or south of town and well away from that evil west end.

No offence intended djrhettmatix...

You couldn't have summed it up any better

Sooofresh I was at play and silk. When you said the venue was weird did you mean the different rooms and the upsatirs sections?

Me and my girls couldn't find the ladies room at first and the second cloakroom so we went back to the first one where they only had one guy to serve and there was no orderly queue which I thought was silly.

I had a really good time. Would go again.

My friend talked me into going to Mass again last year December, to see if it was any better than before, but unfortunately it has fallen miserably, I couldn't stand their all night, it was fool of buffons and idiots, Guys and Girls burning weed everywhere you go, it was just full of ghetto idiots and hood rats (no pun intended).

I had to go home around 3 and left my friend their, couldn't stand it.

I don't really like the west end for bars as it's more for tourists and out of towners. I know I'm going to get gunned now but I do go to a lot of 'mixed' bars. I like the Medicine Bar in Islington as its very chilled and the drinks are nice.  I also like going to bars in East Central in Shoreditch/Hoxton etc as they tend not to attract rowdy drunk kids. I like bars that attract media types as that's what I am used to.  I like the Bridge & Tunnel and Cargo, which have good hip-hop nights but again the crowd is very mixed (I would only go to East Central between Wednesday and Friday as Saturday is dead). The only West End club I liked was the Sshh Rooms in Leicester Sq but I haven't been for about a year so have no idea what its like now. I'm quite eclectic in my musical tastes so I go to very varied places.  I am not too bothered what type of people are in the place unless they are rowdy because for me its about the music and the company I'm with as long as those 2 things are cool, I'm cool.

Really ashamed to say this but I went to Rainforest Cafe  on Saturday, after some idiot lets us down at some club that was ment to be free. Needless to say it was getting late, and for jokes we thought lets try Rainforest Cafe, and as usual must of u know that they always ask for u to bring girls. So there we was when this fine "I must say fine without selling out" chinese girl started talking to us while she was on the phone to her friend.

To cut the story short she said her friends where coming so we could all go in together,  and yes when her friends arrived they were all above average black girls, so we thought what the hell at least we got some girls we can chill with in the club.

But my goodness when we got in the club its like all the girls have been high on stoosh weed before they came in, cold shoulder everywhere, thinking that every guy wants to speak to them, and to make it worse there some nice black girls hheehmm (Aunty Jemima's) with there indian boyfriends/ friends and some of them where given the attitude, I know this issue is everywhere on the forum, but damn, why are there so much STOOSH girls in London, I think it must be a London thing, its like they go out to club to see how many guys they can turned down, and the cruelest way they can do it.

I have seen it before plenty of times but its has been a while since I have witnessed this level of Stooshness.

Moral of this piece: I am sticking to just going to bars, clubs in London are just plainly longniceone.gif.
