This money thing. Coming across too many cases where there is no appreciation between the difference of a father supporting his children and a father raising his children.

This is a good question

From my observations Id say no...They are excellent money managers

isnt the art of gold digging money managment (keeping yourself from being broke)

BP - are you talking about money monkey's boy!;) well I'm sure you remember the lyrics to Stevie V's Dirty Cash with that woman singing those lyrics?....as one person put it...

The lyrics are unsettling. I expected them to be rapped, or at least sung by a male vocalist. But no. It’s a sexy female voice singing about something that, well, sounds sexually predatory. Apparently the song is about money. Dirty money. Go figure.

I've no excuse, I just want you to use me
Take me and abuse me
I got no taboos, I'll make a trade with you
Do anything you want me to

I once had pride, now that's all behind
I want to get rich quick
I want success and all that goes with it
And I'm gonna use my sex

I've got no time
for people who cause problems
with their moralistic ways
It's up to me
to shape my destiny
and all I want is money

money talks oney talks
dirty cash I want you dirty cash i want you

...and they give 50 Cent a hard time;)

MB - yep, from a metaphorical perspective prostitution comes in may guises - gold digging or pretending to represent a brotha when all you are really interested in is his financial ability to support your kids aka hustling are just two.

Still, I see a lot of social ills as a direct consequence of discrimination of one sort or another. women generally being the financially worse of sex (worse paid, child bearers, seen as employment risks etc) then gold digging and hustling will be an inevitability in the same way areas of poverty will more likely lead to crime.

Still, listen to some roots rock reggae music and that will help keep the consciousness...but then I guess the reality is the consciousness has to be there to begin with.

when a woman is financially dependant on a man she is labeled a old digger (and rightly so in some cases in my opinion) yet some men sem to take "independant" as a dirty word.  So if she ai't dependant or independant...

... what's a girl to do confused3 should she BE independant but ACT like she needs a man (financialy speaking)?

for the men that hate the concept of an independant woman, be prepared to love the concept of a gold digger.

At the end of te day it is about control.  Some men want to control women and money is a way to do it.  However, they become the controlled when it is the woman taking advantage of them.

As to the original question, i can't speak for all Black women, but i know i personally am crap with money as i just like to shop too much!! but as long as it is MY money i am spending and MY bils i am apying and i am not dependant on anyone else, i don't se that it's anybody elses business or problem.

MB - have no problem with a woman being independent. The problem we have today is it is used to target men..especially black men but equally an independant woman is perfect for many men so all I say is just know what you are about, it doesn't need a label.

If being independant means you can't cook your children a decent meal then I'd prefer you dependant as your independance proves f**k all!

i'm not sure i understand where you are coming from when you say some women use their independance to"target" men.  Do you mean that some men take it as another way of women saying "we don't need you"?

as for a woman remaining "dependant" on a man if she can't feed her kids, what will the man do in that situation?!?!?!?!?

MB - look at it in terms of independant being contrary to unity with unity.  When this is the underlying undertone within the 'battle' of the sexes then it is also contrary to family which ascribes to the concept of divide and rule.
