Big L ,
Everyone has hardship at some point and incase you haven't noticed "struggle" is part of our lives as Nubian people anyway. Nothing wrong with wanting your mum and dad to turn to but at some point you will need to recognise that even if they are there independance is the key for your progress. It's not just men who may not have a mum or dad to turn to
Disagree completely about men having a harder time than women though and am glad Kunjufu actually stuck up for us women by acknowledging some of the things that are hugely unjust for us. That's not to even mention the emotional strength that we MUST have to keep our heads up and run our families. Those with a bit more experience perhaps would know that in the family, if mother is not alright everyone else is not alright! I know too many women who go through so much that there seems no other choice that to suffer in silence.
If my main concern and "inherited/instinctive/natural" job was just making sure I brought money home for my family, I would be a very very happy woman. Women have to adapt and change whenever it's necessary to do so if it means that her family are ok. If a man should be left to "be a man" that leaves even more work for the woman to do just so she doesn't ruffle his feathers lol!
If I didn't know how much power I have just by being a Nubian woman I would be a man any day

@BIG L. Be grateful that times have changed and you are now living in a modern society probably under your parents roof. Life as we know nowadays has become easy and some men particularly here in America can sponge from their families/mothers until the age of forty (40) and still living at home. You could be somwhere in Africa living in a remote village among hunter and gatherer societies, or among societies whose livelihood is based on fishing, then what will you do?
I will have to agree with you on that one and it is no longer UNTIL the age of 40, it has moved on up to the 40-plus set, I know two of them as we speak living off of their mother. I am not feeling him on this one.
