I am sure most of you have heard all the publicity surounding will smiths latest movie
In pursuit of happyness
http://www.sonypictures.com/movies/thepursuitofhappyness/
the rags to riches story of chris Gardner a single homeless dad who raised his son singlehanded and went onto become a millionaire. Some of you may have even read the book. I just wanted to hear your comments and opinions on the movie or the book if you have read it.
I found it a very inspiring story and one of those rare cases of true determination against all odds. Of course there is that element that Hollywood loves to sensationalise the american Dream but then again we all love a success story don't we anyhow your views please.
For those of you who have not here is a link to the background behind the story of Chris Gardner

nothing special about the movie, typical of life! unimpressed...
a bit like erin broko something an another.. which was a much more impressive story...
i wouldnt recommend the film... having the child sleep in public toilet with you, when the child could have slept in a bed with mother, what was that... selfish!!
4/10...
@sooo fresh
the only reason i wouldnt agree is because there are lots of films out their about single female parent who succeed, this was just a male vesion, remebering that 1 in every ten sigle parents is a man, its about time that minority got shown, well at least were the woman left, instead of just dying!

| I found it really boring... You know when you sit there waiting for something interesting to happen?? Well it never happened. Will Smith should stick to what he is good at. Because we have such high expectations of Will Smith, this film was very disappointing. I wouldn't reccommend it either. Last edited on Saturday January 27th, 2007 01:11 by Jhem

No, you are not the only one. I loved the movie. Two scenes that were just too powerful.
The scene where he and his son are homeless for the night, they stay in a washroom.
The other scene is when they are rushing for the bus and his son drops his doll.
Yep, it was never that bad for me, but it was close. That feeling you get when you just want the kids to have a nice Christmas, but you look in your wallet and see just 3 damn dollars.
Yeah, that's messed up.

That was so emotional and the end bit when he was told he got the job and started crying.
Maybe its cos he a man and he was cryin that i found it so emotional. When men cry it breaks my heart. When a man cries u no its hurting boy. I thought it was excellent.
But tru wat someone said y the hell did the mother leave him, wouldnt a good father send the son to his mother?
The mum let her kid go without a fight. Never would i leave my child with the dad.If they were broke b4 how the hell she think they were gonna cope with her gone and 1 less wages.
Also why didnt he at least try win her back, letting his woman leave without a fight!
But recommended film yeh..

It depends on what was happening with the mother. I had a family member let her kids go without a fight also. But she was messed up. So it was left up to my mother, she wouldn't split them up.

Yeh but in the film, the mum goes cos she sick of the dad not bringing in the money and her having to work day and night in some laundry room.
Its not like he was beating her! She just pack up her bags and ran off>> unloyal wife and mother

Yeah. . .well, I don't doubt it. But he may have had some issues too. You know Hollywood. Heroes and Heroines must be perfect.

| In all it was a gơod movie. It captures the epitome of the American Dream; the rags to riches story. It's really what people set out to do in this country. From a pơor single parent Black man to a rich single parent parent.

Just saw this film and I'll admit that tears were welling up in my eyes. Probably one of the best mainstream films you will ever watch portraying African fatherhood in a positive light, not to mention determination in the most difficult circumstances.
It's interesting that a lot of these arsehole rappers will idolise a fictional Cuban gangster's rag to riches story, but will totally overlook a positive African character based on a real person who overcame the most ridiculously bad obstacles.
Will Smith was robbed of an oscar for this one.
