That's right, The magazine that is supposed to cater to African Diasporic males, titled Black Men has selected its "Sexiest Woman of the Year" in its December/January 2007 issue. You would think that it would be a woman of African descent, but it is a (White) Latina named, Vida Guerra. How are our sisters supposed to feel secure with their African/Black men if *this* is what they choose? Is this an issue that African men need to solely address, or do African women have a role in this as well? It is just a question, so don't crucify the messenger.

Nah but seriously we've had debates on this so called 'black men's magazine' that highlights every single woman on the planet but African women. The staff are a useless bunch and it clearly shows the issues they have with themselves when they highlight beans and rice eating broads as the epitome of so called 'black' beauty.

There are so called "Black Latinos" like Afro-Cubans, Afro-Ricans, Dominicans, and so forth, so I wanted to make it clear that it was a *white* Latina...oh yeah, and pictures help...

Well the positive is at least its white women they have in the mags in seductive prossie poses and the charge of Black men expoiting black women cant be levelled. Because these brothers love a white women baaad..

PH True dat. But that cannot be said for all those hip hop artists come film producers eg Ice Cube and all the rest of them who never ever or rarely have a black woman as the lead or centre of romantic tension. Either hoochie mamas and a ruff looking set or Latinos.
Feel very let down by Cube personally, especially in his Friday films. The rest I could not piss on but always liked Cube
If certain black man love a white or near to from slavery/colonialism can you imagine how much man love them now with the internet, cable and satellite TV and internet.
In the Caribbean the girls all those middle and upper man want, especially in the prostitution business, are those Latino girls from Dominican Republic, Costa and Puerto Rico. Them girls are making the serious money and worse still some man take them for their mistresses. Black African working girls are at the bottom of the food and prostitution change.
So imagine even in that business the Black African woman is getting diss same way, and have to struggle to make a money, because those who want the services of prostitution want Latino gal them.
Should see them in Antigua and Trinidad bright like light, walking with chest push out like seh see mi ya..Big status queen in town..

shouldn't actually matter what she was up against, theres always a selection of knock out black women with curvy bodies suitably air brushed churned out in American videos and calenders every year to fill up an entire top 20 countdown...
but how else could BLACK MEN's Magazine make it any clearer for the hard of hearing black women:

at least Latin/ white/ asian men know how to desire and hold preference within their own women first and foremost... black and Asian women do, hell even white and Latina can... seems its only black men who have something to prove to the world
Funny how where ever there are black men and non black women, there are... black men flocking towards them, jeeezz talk about hating yourself! All you have to do is check out any random Latin looking women on myspace and view her pic comments...you'll be hard pressed to find a latin man on a page full of black appriciation...And blk women still stay sane!!! Only the other week i went to a music video casting in London, where i saw alot of good looking sisters, but who did the blk men cast? the one single latina girl that showed up... out of 7 or 8 blk girls
sisters guess we have face it, because you cant ignore it, Black men are not interested. But black women will never walk in shame, we know our own worth and the beauty of being black and proud

see it from a female perspective if you can, of course black women are gonna feel hurt and insulted...we are all human and as women need to feel appricated and desired by our men

This does not surprise me, didnt two white latino's win a competition held by the same magazine not only winner but runner up aswell! lol That really just says it all, and no it is not a coincidence. This woman is okay looking but really what is the hype??
@wifeable, you only have to watch channel u to see the amount of Latino girls in the videos, and we dont even have as much Latinos here as they do in the states. Wherever America goes we have to follow! There was one song where a group of guys were proclaiming their love for their girls and he was saying how her "back-off was from her south american side" oh please. It really is sickening.
But I refuse to believe this is how the majority of men think, we shouldnt get too down by the hype as this could be another divide and rule tactic to keep black women/men apart.

Thanks for saying this. The reason I started this thread is for positive dialogue, not necessarily to cast blame or anything like that. I truly believe that there is an all-out attack on the African family. At least in America, our women are rewarded more for their hard work. African men are seen as too aggressive for displaying the same work ethic and perseverance as White men. This naturally gives African women more economic power than the African man in America, and then we are inundated with images of almost White women as the sexual desire for Black men. Recently, we have been seeing more and more White men take Black women, but we rarely see a happy African couple on the screen or in media. So again, thanks for seeing past all of that.

Most guys are smarter than that. It's mostly black women who look good well into their 50's anyway. When I was in NY I used to love to look at the latin women, but I noticed after about 28/29 they don't look hot anymore.

I think Blackbutterfly made a valid point about this being another divide and rule. First and foremost, the readers of that magazine are not a representative of all black men and there might be latinos and other ethinic groups reading that mag and voting in it. I do know that a few nerves will be touched if a black woman's magazine always voted a white or Latino dude as the sexiest or whatever. Dont beleive the hype people. Bless
