I used to think Football mangager was addictive... bloody hell if Civilization ain't ten times more so.
Anybody got any tips or stories?
I've discovered the best way to win is to attack everybody early. Don't develop your cities in terms of buildings or improvements, just churn out loads of warriors and settlers and go attacking your neighbours. Find em fast and attack em. Take their cities and keep on with more warriors. See if you leave it too late and people go getting too much technology then it becomes very difficult to wipe other civs out because you're too worried about your precious cities. Once you have territory domination then you can build em up.
The situation I'm in now is I have gunpowder but nobody else does (yet) so my armies are kinda strong but I'm not occupying much land cos I spent too much energy making my cities nice. Now the others can overwhelm me with sheer numbers!
I think this is probably the best PC series I've played before.
For those who dont know, you start with a tribe of your choosing, Egypt, Greece, Rome, England, China, Japan, Iroxouis, Aztec, Zulu, America etc all who have different qualities and merits and you have to build them up in terms of science, military and technology to take over the world. You can win by diplomacy, conquest or winning the space race. The features are too good and detailed, complicated at first but addictive thereafter.

| I played Civilization 3 but unfortunatly I played Rise of Nations before that. After playing RON Civilization was a downgrade in my opinoin. I may have not gotten past the complicatied features that you speak of. I encourage you to pick up Rise of Nations: Thrones and Patriots if you like Civilization.

Are the Egyptians white?
I like those types of games but have to admit I don't like the suck in factor too much... tend to get lost in it and end up fustrating myself. Settlers was the best really, the old versions.
Whats the graphics saying?

Nah the Egyptians ain't white.
LOL @ Colonial... there are lots of ways to win. You can make friends with everybody and build the UN for example or make so many advances everybody wants to be in your civilisation
I just find military conquest more fun!

i've got sid mier's civilization 4, and i aways play the Mali empire. Once i played, as the Spanish don't ask me why!!
But civ 4 is really awesome, and fun to play, it's all light hearted fun, and we all know that sid mier's civilization series is just a watered down version of what really happened in history, it does not even come close to be honest.
But still fun to play.

Man, I didn't see this thread.
I am going to be playing Civ 4 soon. Sounds like a really detailed game. I'll probably be checking the net for tips.

I personally preferred Civ III to Civ IV but that's just me. The one feature missing from Civ III is that you can't play two player games. Usually I play scenario "earth huge" and put every civ in there on diety level. That is fun.
If you like more detail, more rulers with different personalitys, and so on then get Civ IV
