Not buying it until we develop a good hack for it...
Games are too expensive.

Already is... someone gave me 30 hacked xbox games I'm trying to get rid of as I don't have an Xbox.
Need the HHD to go with it or something.

Yeah, I know what you are talking about. It isn't too efficient though. I helped work on the hacks for the PlayStation 1 & 2 and the original XBox. There are some hacks for the 360, but not as clean as I would want for long term use. For example, I put a 250GB harddrive in my original XBox where I could just download any game straight from the disk and play them whenever I wanted. I have over 100 games in my XBox right now, and can add and delete games, movies, music, etc. whenver I want. I don't like the idea of having burned disks. The data is too volatile, and can be corrupted just from a simple scratch. I can't really say here what the next hack idea is for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 because it doesn't work fully yet...but it is genius.

Yes....it is no different than regular DVDs with 2 layers, they just added a 3rd layer and smaller instrumentation to pack more bytes onto each sector to get up to 30GB as opposed to 9GB.
I personally am not investing any money in HD-DVD's or the players because it will go away soon. Everything will soon go to chips, instead of discs that risk being scratched.

Have you seen the Sony 2gig flashdrive!? The thing is about the size of your thumb.

So you think they'll be having DVDs on chips rather than disks... what about music... MP3s don't work, people won't take to them because they're intangiable, do you think they'll start having CDs on chips?

Yes, but not using flash memory....it is too expensive right right. Plus, it is too easy to copy and write over, so they will use something that is burned in once. There are several magnetic chip technologies vying to be on the fore-front of this industry. It is just that big companies on make the switch over if they have to. They had DVDs ready to be mass produced almost 5 years prior, but they were still making good money on the VHS tapes.

So what are they using out in Japan? Thought you'd be able to see whats next just checking out what they're upto but they're up on BlueRay and High Def.
Would've thought it'd be there first if anywhere...
..... ultimately we're going back to using cartriges minus the casing and with better graphics and memory capabilities... .lol. Thats why I only have a passing intrest in technology its obvious first off that they're waaay ahead already and are back feeding people, secondly it just seems to go round in a big circle. Should've kept my Sega/Atari.

LOL @ Sega/Atari...
The leading magnetic storage materials companies are in Asia that have different technologies but they will use whatever makes the most money. Right now, disks cost a fraction of a cent to produce, so they will continue to do that until either sales go down, people want something else, or some great economic benefit arises. I could detail some of the magnetic storage I have worked with, but I was under either NDA or it is government-classified information where I can't talk about lest I be shot.
