The past two days marked the Media stage of the E3. Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo presented videogame systems that each claim will revolutionize the way we entertain ourselves in our homes. Microsoft Presented it's Xbox 360, Sony the PS3 and Nintendo partially showed the revolution.
Of the three systems two were supercomputers while the third, Nintendo was average to say the least processor speed and ability wise but is said to match the other two in regards to abilities. For those who have been watching the videos and are into Gaming is this the end of Nintendo?

No, they'll gear it to the kiddies, with youth friendly titles. You also have those nostalgic types that will support nintendo until the end: "now you're playing with power".

is this the end for nintendo?
seems like.think they are going to end up sticking to hand held games and making games itself, like sega ended up doing but they already have a loyal fanbase so maybe theres still hope for them. these consoles get more powerfull everytime its unbelievable.

They have 2 choices eiyther they innovate or they die.
with the DS they ahve a strong innovation lead and attracting new gamers is possible. if they don't take advantage of that and start pushing the gamers market away from the exclusively male dominated market it is today. they will fail and sonys PSP and PS3 will crush them.
the game cube and the n64 already lost the m alot of ground. sure the game cube was on par with the xbox and the n64 was more power full than the PSX but they foolishly have gone for a futile attempt at ant piracy prevention that has left them with no publishers desiring to make games for them add to that their draconian policies on games development and they just shot themselves in the foot.
nintendo needs to stop flogging mario and start thinking ahead. get back the publishers they lost get back the gamers they lost and get the gamers they need.
a tough order to fill indeed. I think they can do it.
I dont want them to turn into sega.

Why does nintendo seem intent on killing itself? i dont want to play games like mario party 736528 and "donkey konga"
My gamecube is just sitting there gathering dust.

Nintendos problem is that they dont really want to take games online, they understand this is a weakness, the same for the PS3..The Japs want to focus on making good games which is understandable but they have to build in online capibilities b/c they dont want to have a competitive disadvantage.. Right now the X-box online experience is far more superior than either of the other consoles, and in the next gen of consoles X-box live will be bundled with the 360 making it possible to go online right out of the box....Microsoft is trying to re-write the rules of videogame consoles, this is exactly how they have practically monopolized the cpu software industry. As my saying says, the best way at winning any game is to write the rules...Another thing that may kill Sony is that Microsoft is swiping up developers and offering them a bigger cut of the profits, something that only a Bill Gates can do. Again this is how they monopolized the cpu software industry....
There is one really good thing going for Nintendo's "Revolution" and thats the fact that you can download any Nintendo game ever made since 1984.....If these games are going to be free of charge I may pick up the Revolution.............After I get my X-box 360 of course...

I've been a Nintendo fan since the 80's and just want to clear up a few things. You can only compare Nintendo to a firm like "BMW" they don't have to be market leader to be successful at all. They dont have to have the largest market share, all they have to do is satisfy their hardcore fanbase like they always have. They have the largest following of hardcore gamers on the planet.
In fact of the three market leaders Nintendo is the most profitable company. With a net margin of over 20%, Nintendo is a financial rock star, has been for years. By way of comparison, General Electric, that monster global conglomerate whose executives write the books about corporate leadership that other Fortune 500 execs read, clocks in with a net margin of 11% Nintendo’s business engine is so efficient that even though they sell far less than Sony, they make, bottom line, about as much as all of Sony combined, Yes, that’s right. Nintendo an extremely small firm generates about as much cash as giant Sony—electronics, movies, music, computers, games, pdas etc, the works.
I wont even talk about Microsoft, the Xbox is black hole for microsoft they've lost billions on it. You have no place in business being that wholly inefficient.

| well i was a nintendo fan . i had the snes and n64 but sold them. and i agree with nights that they still have a hardcore fan base which might not die and i like thier strategy which is not the amount of games they make but the quality dont get me wrong playstation has some quality games but 60 percent of ps games are crap i own a ps2 and havnt seen any game worth buying. nxt year i might either go for a xbox 360 or a revoultion .ps3 is off my mind this time around. besides sony and microsoft are promising different features for thier consoles when people havnt even used all the features on thier ps2 yet. i simply want a console for gaming simple as that. sony and microsft entice people with a multitask machine which might make loading of the interfaces take time i dont care if thier consoles can fry chicken, we wont still use all thier features. the flip side to nintendo is that they dont have games like grand theft auto.

Soul Machine:
I'm a gamer! Grand Theft Auto, Tomb Raider, Tekken and all the rest are what grabs me. I bought the CUBE but all they had was kiddy games and that was it for me. Nintendo is the only Game Company that turns a profit off of game systems sold and they will likely hang in there but they will lose out in terms of penetration cause they can't get GTA!

| well masai05 i read they are trying to get the liscence or are in talks with rockstar to also start making gta games for nintendo if thats the case then id rather buy thier console this time around. ps has alotta crap games for my liking.teken aint that special to miss anyway.lol and you made a big mistake buying the cube thank god i didnt they failed with the cube in my opinion. but you should be happy cos the cube got that new zelda game twilight princess i think.

LOL, I did make an error in purchasing, in fact I bought the Turbo Grafx-16 back in the day as well. If they get GTA on the Revolution then I'm on it but I hear that the system is only 3 times as powerful as the Cube

well we really dont know what they mean by 3 times more powerfull, was it it terms of the processor or the graphic.
what do gamers reallly need all those power for?. its not like we are using the consoles for some engineering work.
because if you calculate the graphics of the next gen consoles they should be about 256 mega bites. ths current console we have now are about 128 ,ega bites. the thing is no matter what nintendo still has some fun games to chill too and according to them you can download pervious game titles from the nes to the snes and 64. so if thats true then im buying thier console. on the other hand if thier graphics are sh*t, then im not gonna care about them cos graphics are important to me. Apperently they said this figure was "miss quoted" but they still haven't said how powerful it is. My guess is it won't be anything near as powerful as the xbox360 or ps3 as they'll try to keep manufacturing costs down.
Where the revolution is, is anyones guess. Probably be the controller as they didn't show anything at E3.

For me, it's a case of I've been with them since the days of the NES and have had all the systems since. With this current generation however, I opted for the PS2 over the Game Cube because of developer support and the choice of games. I also bought the XBox but then bought the GC for old times sake. Of the three, my PS2 gets the most attention. In the next generation I know that I'll definitely get a PS3 but I also want a secondary console. Because Nintendo are so different, my money will line their pockets once again.

I was just reading today that the figure was misquoted but in terms of power I think because they are shooting for an under $200 price tag that it will be less powerful than the Xbox 360. That isn;t a bad thing though because theey will never use the full capabilities. Besides the games demoed by Sony and Microsoft don't look all that much better than Xbox and Gamecube games.

| it doesnt matter how much power the rev has it matters if it is used. nintendo is far more efficient than sony and microsoft combines. look at the gamecube better graphics that xbox but less powerful.
