| I have notice that must of the the time videos games always have black people as tugs and stuff and when a black person is good they always be a white persons sidekick. I think they need to make more video games with Lead black people as heros who are trying to save or make something better. What do you think?

| Overlord: I understand that the character is an anti hero, however i question whether the who premise of that game including the character itself is one we should be signing up to.. and I speak as a fan of 'shoot em up' games. The problem I had with this game and its previous version was that it went too far in the stereotypes..

Will that is true about the stereotypes like for a example all the black people in the game always say the N word and sh*t and how the Red necks cops sound like they are a raceist. off topic what shooter sereies do you like? I like T Half Life games.

Hell yeah! we need Black lead characters not only in videogames but in movies as well. Dante should have been black, Solid snake should've been black, and the guy from "Dead To Rights" should've been black. I think his name was Jack. I'm tired of these games with rappers like the "Def Jam" series.
Grand Theft Auto never even considered using a black character for the lead part until they decided to use Gangs. Now there are Latinos and Blacks all over the Screen saying Ni66a as every other word. And don't get me started on that "Fear & Respect" game Snoop Dogg my a**.

Well when Africa starts making computers games then you can worry about it, outside of that I think we've been represented quite well. How many Indians do you see in computer games?, Ok so Harpu might of been in a Simpsons game I've never played. In fact I've seen more Red Indians in computer games over them.
I don't think enough Japanese games have enough Japanese looking characters myself but there you go. Check out Raven from Tekken 5 anyway. Blade rip off but cool none the less.

Dante should of been Japanese, especially since Capcom is a Japanese company.

GTA is well aware of what they're doing. They've used every stereotype in the book already.
Believe or not most people who play computer games are well aware of the stereotypes.
The same way I know Neiji-Kun in your avatar would get his arsed kicked by Sakura..chan

There is a reason Japanese use Western looking characters in their
games, cartoon, (manga), and anime movies......very simple.
Its easier to draw the eyes, and show facial expression.

After WW2 America colonised Japan. The Japanese of a certain generation were brought up to adore and admire everything American. It was way of dealing with the huge shame of losing (and even worse surrendering) to the US.
They do everything from playing baseball as their no. 1 sport, to have their youth music scene completely dominated by America since the 50s. Japanese youth dye their hair in a multitude of colours but mostly blond.
They are proud peoples but the national psyche was severely affected by that despite the booming tiger economy of the 70s and 80s the troubled identity can be seen in their movies. The nation is now like a cultural sponge, we have seen them looking also to black america and carribean in terms of finding their identity.
So yes it does show in the amime and video games.

Homie some of the biggest video characters in the world are black.
The best selling game in the world last year GTA San Andreas was starring a black character. And Master Chief from Halo is Black.
Shadowman, nba games, nfl games , the 50 cent video game, the uncoming Mark Ecko inspired video game, Catowoman, Blade, Eternal Darkness ahs the best black character ive seen in a video game.
They do very much conform to stereotypes though (except for the etenal darkness character).

If you look at some of the early animation, post-WWII their characters still had Japanese features....there is a book called "Dog and Demons": Tales from the Dark Side of Modern Japan
Alex Kerr, pretty much says the same with regard to the subject as Druken Monkey, and many agree.
But as neither are Japanee, I'll go with the explaination of Anime director, Satoshi Kon's explaination. Who also said that the anime characters wanted to look trusting and approachable....The anatomical eyes of Westerners and Japanese alike made all the characters look shifty and evil, to the eyes were rounded and widden to make the characters more aprealing.
As far as skin tone, the Japan is almost as long as California....up north you see lighter Japanes....down south you see darker Japanese, and in Okinawa their skin tone resembles that of some Latin countries. This skin tone of most Japanese Characters mirrors that of middle to northern Japan (above Tokyo)...Hokkaido area......sort of like Westerners

I cant accept that Japanese people themselves would describe their own appearances as shifty looking. I mean I might percieve them as such but that is because it is not normal to me. Not very many Japanese around me. However if I lived in Japan and grew up around Japanese then these facial features would be normal.
How then can a Japanese person believe that his own features are shifty? Unless the cultural annihilation went further than I suspected?
Parris do you have early examples of Japanese anime showing these features as you describe. I would like to see what you mean.

1) Ripp off characters aren't cool.(As a matter of fact Tekken has no originality.)
2) I've more Native American characters than Black Leads. And I don't count sports nor movie characters. That's a cop- out.
3) Japanese have a poor view on themselves thanx to white colonists.
