Peace to advocators of truth:

It was reported early last month (February) that a study was done to uncover the amount of rat feces in various brands of chocolate that Americans, especially American women, eat. The emphasis was placed on women and chocolate because the study was done weeks before Valentine’s day (which is a day of great exchange of chocolate). The end result of the study was aired on major news channels just days before Valentine’s Day 2003.

There was no escaping eating rat feces for chocolate lovers and eaters. It made me sick to consider all the chocolate I had eaten in the past myself. The thought of eating rat feces! Gross!

Every major brand of chocolate and every major producer of chocolate ranked high on the study. Major chocolate companies and producers whose chocolate contained high amounts of rat feces included Godiva, See’s, Hershey’s, Nestle, Carnation, and Mars. Godiva ranked number one in the amount of rat feces in their brand of chocolate. Yes, the most expensive chocolates ranked number one in rat feces. After all, you get what you pay for.

But that’s not all! For milk chocolate lovers (such as I used to be), you are also getting and eating COW SNOT! Milk is liquid meat! Cow snot = MUCUS!!! So in addition to eating rat feces, chocolate eaters are also eating cow snot. There’s so much milk in milk chocolate, that technically, milk chocolate is a dairy product.

Also, don’t forget the high sugar content of chocolate. Sugar is the number one drug on planet earth. Sugar fills the void of sweetness in your personal life.

And we mustn’t forget about the rat hair content of chocolate either! Yes, wherever rats roam, they leave their hairs. The federal government allows by law, 96.5 rat hairs in a box of commercial brand cereal. And you thought government regulation was for your benefit. Think again blind trusting United States citizen.

In closing, women, chocolate producers purposely put synthetic opiates in their chocolate, to make you feel good. I wonder why men are always giving women boxes of chocolate candy as gifts? Men got their beer and women got their chocolate! Beer got its secret ingredient of formaldehyde and chocolate got its secret ingredient of rat feces.

Peace!

lmao @ blackmatta!!  but i think i remember reading somewhere that govts do allow for certain contamination levels in food.  The thinking behind it is that in factories where any kind of food stuff is mass produced such contamination can't be helped so all they can really do is regulate HOW MUCH contamination there is.  Doesn't just apply to chocolate either. Don't think organic is safe either! practically eveything we eat has had creepies scampering over it at some point,even if it is in the store room of the shop.  that said i ain't giving up my cadburys!   Like my mum says, what don't kill fattens!!

Exactly.  None of that stuff has hurt us yet.  And when you think of the number of people who have multiple allergies and have to regulate almost everything they do and eat,  if the contamination was at a harmful level, most of those people would be dead already!!  I myself have egg and nut allergies.  I can't eat a single thing with nuts in, yet almost every chocolate bar or dessert says may not be suitabe for nut allergy sufferers, despite the fact that they contain no nuts what so ever.  I just eat the damn food anyway, and i'm still here!!  can't pay attention to that level of scaremongering, people just trying to cover themselves.  And trust me, if i stopped eating EVERYTHING that said may not be suitable for nut allergy sufferers the whole dessert and chocolate insutry would go broke!!  I know that all was a lilofftopic.gif!!!

Peace to advocators of truth:

Sugar is the most harmful and addictive substance known, and should be completely eliminated from our diets! Being that I'm hypoglycemic, I know first hand about the affects this drug, euphamistically called sugar!

By "sugar" I mean the refined, white powder that is the major ingredient in candy, soft drinks, cakes, pies, and so on. The refining process takes natural sugar cane and removes all of the fiber, vitamins, and minerals from it. First, it is heated up in chalk milk, which extracts its calcium and protein. This heating process also destroys the cane's vitamins and enzymes. Next, it is mixed with acid, chalk, carbonic gas, sulfur dioxide, and natrium bicarbonate. After cooking and cooling this mixture several times, it is then crystallized, centrifuged, and treated with strontium hydroxide. To clean this deadly concoction, it is passed over chalk and carbon acid. Any dark coloring remaining is removed with sulfuric acid, filtered through bone charcoal, then decolorized with highly toxic dyes.

Does this sound like anything resembling a food? It's no less than a drug … an addictive one at that. Nature's wholesome sugar cane is turned into poison by this process! By removing all of the nutrients and adding toxic chemicals, this addictive powder is concentrated into eight times more sucrose than the same weight of cane. This unnatural amount of sucrose plays havoc with blood sugar levels and contributes to diabetes, hypoglycemia, obesity, and heart problems.

You've heard the old saying, "A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down." Not only is the medicine toxic, the sugar immobilizes the immune system. Only nine teaspoons of sugar are needed to paralyze the immune system by at least 30% on that day. One soft drink has ten teaspoons of sugar in it. You're increasing your chance of illness greatly just by having a soft drink! Most Americans consume fifty teaspoons of sugar per day! That's suicide! It only takes thirty teaspoons of sugar to disable the immune system for an entire day. No wonder Americans are so sickly!

Check labels before buying a product. Highly refined sugars in the forms of sucrose (table sugar), dextrose (corn sugar), and high-fructose corn syrup are lethal and are listed as ingredients in virtually everything. Sometimes, a product lists all three. Most ice cream contains over 37% refined sugars (not to mention the unhealthy dairy contained in it). Refined sugar is also hidden in breakfast cereals and fruit drinks, usually higher than 50% of its contents. Become an avid label reader. Your life depends on it!

Dr. Norman Walker states, "Sugar causes irritation and weakening of the mucous membranes of the body and robs teeth, bones, and blood of a great percentage of their minerals. Inflammatory diseases of the breathing and digestive organs result from the use of white and brown sugar" (Walker, Norman W. Water Can Undermine Your Health. Prescott, Arizona: Norwalk Press, 1974).

Besides poisoning and burdening our system, sugar cannot completely metabolize, resulting in pyruvic acid. This toxic compound deprives the blood of oxygen. Our system must then deplete chromium, magnesium, zinc, thiamin, and B vitamins just to attempt absorption of the sugar, thus, creating a deficiency of vitamins and minerals. Our bodies begin to demand more food in order to replenish our nutrient supply. We grab more sugary snacks because we're still hungry and we've become addicted to sweets. More nutrients are robbed from us. Insulin is released from the elevated blood sugar levels, promoting the storage of fat. Our triglyceride levels rise. More toxins are introduced into our bodies (God's temple) and the vicious cycle continues. Obesity, diabetes, and heart disease are just around the corner.

The simple carbohydrates—refined white, brown, turbinado, and corn sugars—should not be categorized with the healthy complex carbohydrates and starches. Most simple carbohydrates should be relabeled "poisonous."

The body absorbs complex carbohydrates much more slowly, which keeps blood sugar levels even. The following is a list of some natural sweeteners that contain complex carbohydrates and most of their original vitamins and minerals.

Syrups made from grains contain a blend of complex carbohydrates and simple sugars. Barley malt syrup is 30% complex carbohydrate and substitutes well for brown sugar. Brown rice syrup is 37% complex carbohydrate and is mild enough to be used in place of brown and white sugar. When this sweetener is dried into granules, it still retains about 33% complex carbohydrate. These all substitute well in your favorite recipes.

Acceptable unrefined, natural, simple sugars are fruit-juice concentrates, granulated cane juice, and pure maple syrup. It still contains some nutrients and is an acceptable sweetener. Although molasses is a by-product of refined sugar, it still retains many of its vitamins and minerals and is also acceptable. What about honey?

Honey must not be used at any time internally. It is manufactured from the nectar picked up from the flowers by the bees- good enough in itself, perhaps- then predigested, vomited and stored for their own future use with a preservative added. It is deficient in calcium and has many detrimental effects for the human being.

According to one authority, honey is "a magical and mystical word in Healthfoodland. It is one of the most overpromoted, overpriced product being sold to gullible health foodists. The great value attributed to honey is delusive…honey is only a little less empty and more dangerous than sugar."

Just as with alcohol, honey, being predigested, enters the blood directly, raising the sugar content very rapidly above normal. To correct this, the pancreas must produce insulin immediately or possible death can occur. More insulin than necessary is likely to be produced, and the blood sugar level then drops below normal. This can produce blackout spells and even death if it goes to low. When blood sugar is below normal, a person will feel depressed. The regular use of honey can create constant imbalances which in turn will adversely affect the normal function of the liver, pancreas and spleen. Hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia are the results of the use of unbalanced sugars. The balanced sugar in maple syrup and sugar can juice causes no dangerous side effects. Artificial, synthetic, and refined sugars have no place in a natural diet.

In your recipes, white or brown sugar can be replaced one-to-one with the granulated cane-juice and brown-rice sweeteners. Liquid sweeteners, however, are a different matter. The white, brown, or turbinado sugars can be replaced with barley malt syrup, brown rice syrup, maple syrup or molasses by reducing another liquid in the recipe by 1/3 cup and adding about 1/3 cup of flour.

Check the labels on all of your food items and don't buy brands that have sugar, sucrose, dextrose, or high-fructose corn syrup. You'll be shocked at how many brands use these poisonous ingredients. Unfortunately, even some "health-food" items contain these ingredients. Also, be wary of "sugar-free" products. Aspartame and saccharine are known toxins.

If we stop buying junk food, companies will be forced to stop manufacturing it and replace it with healthier alternatives. Health-food stores and some grocery stores already offer more wholesome options. Don't overeat these though. Even the healthier sweets are no substitute for fresh, raw fruits and vegetables. The first sweet snack you should reach for is fruit.

Peace!

while i appreciate what you're saying (well, some of it!! the post was long, the font was small and my eyes are tired!!)  i think 99.9% of people actually KNOW sugar, particulary refined white sugar, is bad for them.  Won't stop them (or me) eating it tho!!  Like i said before, what don't kill, fattens (and boy, does it fatten!!)  that said, i only really use sugar in cappucino, that is to say, its the only thing i ADD it to.  I am aware that other things i eat contain sugar.  But in a real world, how many people could actually cut it out complelty?  I know how i get when i havn't had chocolate for a while and my period is due.  (I make the incredible hulk look like gizmo!!)  i think the best thing is just to cut it out as much as is realistically possible for you and your lifestyle.

Is there a natural alternative to refined sugar?
Yes - Stevia.

Stevia is a natural, sweet-tasting, non-toxic plant that has no calories, lowers blood pressure and inhibits fat absorption. It is diabetic-safe as it does not adversely affect blood sugar. It is heat stable to 200 degrees Celsius (392 degrees Fahrenheit) so is safe for use in cooking and can be added to hot drinks. It is said to be 10-40 times sweeter than sugar and can be bought in both powder and liquid form.

Japan has been using stevia to sweeten many food products, such as ice cream, bread, candies, pickles, soft drinks and chewing gum, since the mid 1970s. By the late 1980s, stevia represented approximately 41 percent of the market share of potently sweet products consumed in Japan.

In fact, Stevia has been used around the world for at least 1500 years with no reported side-effects, yet it has not been approved as a food additive in the US because "We don't have enough data to conclude that the use [in food] would be safe," (quoted from an agency position paper).

(Aspartame, on the other hand, is a constant source of complaint. A former FDA investigator admits that approximately 75 percent of all the 'adverse reaction' complaints the FDA receives are related to aspartame!)

There will be no race to test Stevia for approval while there is big money to be made from chemical substances such as aspartame because being a natural substance Stevia can't be patented by the huge pharmaceutical corporations.

Though not yet approved in the US as a food additive, Stevia can be sold, and consumed, as a 'dietary supplement'. In what way the FDA can justify how a natural food substance is safe as a supplement but unsafe as an additive is puzzling.

Stevia in the UK?
In the UK it is not possible to buy stevia from shops or other suppliers. The EU have totally banned sales and use of stevia for any purpose. So, in the EU the choice seems to be between the empty calories of sugar and the chemical toxins of aspartame.

Luckily, you can order stevia over the internet from several companies.

Other countries using Stevia today include Thailand, China, South Korea, Paraguay and Brazil.

Additional information on stevia:

Stevia is 200-300 times sweeter than sugar.

Studies have shown a beneficial relationship between stevia and the regulation of blood sugar levels. Hypoglycemics and diabetics have used stevia with favorable results.

Stevia is a calorie-free food.

Japanese studies show that stevia actually suppresses dental bacteria growth.

FDA regulations for stevia disallow it to be labeled as a sweetener or flavoring agent. It is allowed to be used and labeled as a dietary supplement or for use as a dietary ingredient of a dietary supplement.

The active (sweetening) constituent in stevia is called Stevioside.

Its botanical name is Stevia rebaudiana. Native to Latin America and

China and parts of the southwestern United- States.

EQUIVALENTS - One teaspoon of this concentrate equals (approximately) one cup of sugar.

What are the benefits of using stevia?

Sugarless with no calories
* Will not effect blood sugar levels like sugar does.
* 100% Natural
* 250 to 300 times sweeter than sugar
* Heat stable to 200 degrees Celsius (392 degrees Fahrenheit)
* Non-fermentable
* Flavor enhancer
* Plaque retardant Anti-caries (prevents cavities)
* Recommended for diabetics
* Non-toxic Extensively tested in animals and Extensively used by humans with no adverse effects.

Does Stevia have the same qualities as sugar in cooking recipes?

No! The molecular structures of sucrose and Stevioside are completely different. Sucrose (Sugar) when heated will caramelize making such delights as cookies, fudge and ... caramel, a possibility. Stevia will not. Some sweets, like caramel, is not possible, yet, but other sweets like cookies and fudge are possible if you can figure out how.

Will Stevia act as a "fuel" for yeast in baking as sugar does?

No! Stevia is non-fermentable and therefore will not act as a food source for yeast. (This is why stevia is great for anyone suffering from Candida!) Breads will still rise when baked but just not as big.

Does Stevia have any effect on hypoglycemia?

According to the report Effect of the Stevioside and of the aqueous extract of Stevia Rebaudiana (BERT) Bertoni on the glycemia of normal and diabetic rats By: Professor Carlos Eduardo Pinheiro, Presented to the II Brazilian Convention on Stevia rebaudiana (Bert) Bertoni - September 1982, they found that the use of Stevia did not produce any significant glycemic effects in normal or diabetic rats. In other words, stevia does not add sugar to the blood stream as sugar or even fruit can do. This allows the body to regulate the blood's sugar levels naturally. Of course if you drink tea with stevia with a twinkie, all bets are off but if you are careful with your diet, stevia is a wonderful way to satisfy your cravings for sweets without sugar.
