Greetings people -

In this day and age where our lifestyle quality seems to be getting worse by the minute...the questions are:

How serious are you about healthy living and your lifestyle?

Does it matter what you eat, drink, exercise or live in terms of health value?

Do you think Holistic living plays a part of your routine?

What do you do in everyday life for your health?

What is considerred health? A

re there extremes of health- or can we never be 'too healthy'?

All comments welcome!

I detest food regiemes (spl?) and diets.  Atkins, Vegetarians, slimfast etc etc all pure nonsense.... Just make money off peoples hope, diets keep them unhealthy and paying...

We are not carnivores or herbivores but omnivores.  That means our bodies are designed to eat and digest vegtable matter and meat.  We derive our nutrients/amino acids/proteins/Vitamins etc etc from both sources.  We have canines and incisors as well as molars so we can eat all types of foods and our guts can absorb these things, cows cant digest meat, dogs cant digest vegtables it would pass straight through them but not us because we omnivores (like bears, pigs, rodents etc etc) can eat vegtables and meats.  It is essential that we do so.  This is a balanced diet.

When we leave out a food group then we deprive our bodies of what we naturally need, we need firbre, carbs, proteins, sugar, salt, AAs, fats, vitamins and all sorts of other stuff.  Too much of some things is just as bad (if not worse) than not enough.  Nobody on a balanced diet should be having supplements.... If you eat properly whatever you need is in your food.

In the west we have a sedentary lifestyle many of us dont move about much in a day, we sit in our cars, or by our desks or at a till whatever.  Added to this we have an over-rich diet.  We have too much meat, too much sugar, too much salt, too much fat.  These things are essentail for us but not the amount we are eating.  Fish and poultry is a better thing for us than red meat which is ok but healthier in moderation than everyday.

Our vegtables may or may not be good for us depending on who you believe, an organic farm sounds good but what does it mean? Look at the legal guidelines on what it takes to be an organic farmer and you will see that its not so strict and the food isnt that much different from supermarket produce.  Its full of insecticide, pesticides and who knows how many chemicals and stuff???

Im still alive so Its not all bad news and sometimes I think things are hyped up to give us something to chat about.  Eat what you want for the lifestyle you want.  Stuff your face ull of chocolates, fizzy drinks, fast food and so on and you will have the lifestyle you wanted.... a fat one.  Deprive yourself of things you need and you will have the lifestyle you wanted..... A weak pale vunerable one.

Balance people balance

How serious are you about healthy living and your lifestyle?

Very serious

Does it matter what you eat, drink, exercise or live in terms of health value?

Yes

Do you think Holistic living plays a part of your routine?

Yes

What do you do in everyday life for your health?

I work out 3 times per week.  It helps me to sleep well, and allows me to take out my frustrations/stress (if I have any) in a constructive way.  It allows me to use my mind to have power over my body.  I have to really focus my energies and use my head to get me to believe that the weight I am lifting isnt too heavy and that I can do it... or it isnt too hard or too long.

When I am sick I also drink a lot of water and go to the gym. Going to the gym is a way of "flushing the toilet" internally for me.  I push the blood through my body faster and drink tons of water.  At the end of the day, I am cleaner inside and illnesses seem to run their course much faster.  I almost NEVER get sick and I sleep with my windows open even in the winter to expose my body to stuff out there in order to build up immunity.

For my mental health, I journal, write, sing, dance at least once per week plus I make sure I make time for a friend at least once per week to maintain a healthy mind.  I do not watch TV unless I have an intent on watching something specific.

I make sure that I leave the indoors/computer at least once per day to spend time in nature or just outside.

I do not drink to get drunk.  (Mostly wine and only socially).  I do not take pills for anything unless it is EXTREME.  I occasionally take echinacea for recovery/prevention of illness.  I eat fresh fruit 2-3 times per day and eat some form of vegetable everyday, though my base eating is more grain/pasta/legume based.

What is considerred health?

  1. You are satisfied with yourself
  2. You have a close relationship with someone other than yourself
  3. You are being stimulated intellectually with information which brings broadens your mind and keeps you busy/challenged.
  4. You are physically and psychologically capable of living a life indepent of drugs, devices, or other obsessions/dependencies.
  5. You are aware of and able to deal with your emotions in a constructive way which does not adversely affect those around you or yourself
  6. Your basic need are satisfied in constructive ways (food, sex, companionship)
Are there extremes of health- or can we never be 'too healthy'?

YES, extremes in health and anything else are a form of gluttony.  I consider it overindulgence lead by mental/physical obsessions and dependencies.  It becomes obsession when it becomes destructive to the self, the peers or the society at large..
