Does anyone suffer from this? If so, how do you handle it? I know it can't be cured but are there any kind of tactics I can use to prevent it? I've suffered with it for years and I thought I had found one method to prevent it but today I discovered that it doesn't work anymore :(

I absolutely hate it and it drives me crazy so any help would be really appreciated.

Relax and don't be afraid... makes it worse.

I used to suffer from this - so much I feared I was being haunted!

Not had it for a good few years though, so think mine may have been stress-related. So, I suggest relaxation and let go of the stress.

So what you're saying is the day I hand in my dissertation is the day I'm free from this foolishness! How did you discover what it was?

After reading your post I thought about when I last had an attack. When I kicked my ex out and moved house they stopped, so I now realise it was the stress of being with the fool.

I've not had an attack for over 7 years now......

thanks @vezz, i'll bear that in mind. I read somewhere that avoiding sleeping on your back helps and i found that sleeping on my side was really helping. like i'd wake up, have an attack then i'd roll on to my side and then i was fine. but now thats not working anymore. Also, 99% of the time, I get it when I wake up naturally as opposed to having an alarm cos i never get it when I have to get up for work/uni or whatever.

That's ok, SS.

You know, they scared the hell out of me. I used to recite the Lord's Prayer and Hail Mary, 'cos I used to think the house was haunted and the ghost was coming to get me (). It got to the stage when I was afraid to go back to sleep after an attack, as I was scared I'd never wake up again...

I must be happy now........:)

I have the perfect answer to your sleep paralysis...

Put a large picture of Jade Goody on the ceiling - directly above your bed.

When you wake up, the sheer horror will jolt your body into life!

..personally with things like these, you can keep running but eventually you stand up and check, what the hell is there to be scared of - face the music and dance!;)
