The skin on my face is quite dry, and I was wondering, what people with dry skin use on their faces, in terms of face wash and moisturiser.

At the moment I use Oil of Olay moisturising face wash, and Johnsons moisturising cream. But my skin still feels a bit dry. I need a good regime which will give me clear skin that doesn't feel dry, half way through the day.

my skin on my face can get really dry as yet i have not found a decent face wash for it. i tend to use a mud max or exfoliating mask once to twice a week. teh exfoliating one is lovely it removes dead skin. i use to get boots no 7 but they dont make it no more so ia m looking another one. i tried ph5.5 but my face cam up with a bump or two. for now i tend to just use water and nivea creme. nivea moisturises my face so well. for some it can be a bit much.

if your skin after cleanising is really dry do try nivea. my friend uses oil of olay aswell

 Thanks Lady Day.

take it back to the old school.

back in the day, astral used to keep me shiny and sweet but if that doesnt work, then take it to the originator, Vaseline!

never fails!

Nah its not vanity, its just that, all those heavy duty oils clog the skin and give spots, so i would have oily spotty skin, and its not about that!

Coca butter is just as bad! thats for the body only!

Depends on the mosituriser&cleanser etc.

I use Nivea cleanser&toner and astral as a face cream (but can be a bit shiny at times).

We have good skin in my family, so quite lucky...but i still do have combination skin.

What about shea butter?

@Miss Brighter Days

Advice given so far has been good but I have one more suggestion

Soaking your face with extra virgin olive oil before bed will really help. In fact its good to coat your whole body with it each night and before you get in the bath.

This way you can wash it off (or cleanse it off) in the morning. During the night your pores will drink in the goodness of the oil.

So no need for shiny face during the day. niceone.gif

oil of ulay is great 4 face wash brands. The only ones that dont dry out my skin, especially oil of ulay moisture balance face wash.

My skin is not that dry but i do know that u should be drinking alot of water. This will really rehydrate ur skin. Also have u tried E45 cream. U should check out   http://www.dermalogica.co.uk  it has great products 4 different skin types. Also great moisturisin face packs. Or u could have moisture balancing facials at the salon. Make sure u exfoliate gently once a week if ur skin is dry. Maybe use a richer night cream in da evening:D

well they say if you suffer with very dry skin you should use a soap free facewash instead of soap.

However I guess that depends what is in the soap as many commercial soaps strip the skin of moisture and rob it of important nutrients. As someone esle said earlier its to do with diet too. It all helps.let me give you a few of my tips that I know for sure will improve your skin. ummmmm :? forget I am a man for a mo and just look at me as your personal beauty guru banana.giflmao

ok her goes here is my great skin tips for dry skin

drink plenty of water 8 glasses per day as someone mentioned

plenty of fruit and fresh veg carrot juices green teas

vitamin C I take 1000mg per day as I need it as a sportsman but 500mg will be ample

get some cod liver oil for your source of omega 3 oils

I have also discovered some good soaps that are based on dead sea that are fantastic for dry skin and problems such as eczema and  other dry skin conditions that I know many of us suffer from

two in particular that I have tried are

Natural mineral soap = a soap rich in minerals

also my favorite is Black Mud Mask Soap = pure unperfumed this soap is based on black Dead sea mud  making it unique.Removes dead skin cells and impurities

The black Mud mask soap is a truely fantastic product and because it removes dead skins cells it leaves your skin looking fresh and toned.

The ony drawback is these products are not available in most shops and are only available via mail order. They do however have a brochure that if you call them they can send to you I will give you an adress and a phone number

The company is called  Natural Dead Sea skincare products

86 ,sunny Gardens road,Hendon,London NW4 1RY

the phone number is 02082036643

its a bonafide company and they do sell some of their products in boots but unfortunately the best ones are only available via mail order anyhow give them a ring and give them a go it makes sense to do a bulk order as £3 delivery charge however any order over £35 you get a free gift so if I were you why not do a bulk order when you get the catalougue with your friends and family.

If you wonder why a black man is so knowledgeable about skin and skincare products is I suffer from mild eczema and have been looking for products that really work and this products gets the big thumbs up  niceone.gif

last but not least if your skin is really dry try E45 witch is available through boots superdrugs etc.

hope this helps my sister and feel free to ask me anything

Hi Ladies:)

What you you think of brands such as Laboratoire Garnier, Loreal etc, do you think they are good to use on black skins?  I am looking for a soap free face wash.  I did a skin test over the internet at Garnier's website and was recommended certain products according to my skin type, but not tone.  Does it make any difference?. I mean, skin is skin, isn't it?.;) xx

banana.gifWater, not to drink, but the kind you wash your face with, makes a big difference. If you have a britta filter, use that water instead, at room temperature or slightly warmed up. Too hot, will strip natural oils and cold water will not clean satisfactorily.

banana.gifIf you eat dried foods, eg biscuits, crisps, muesli etc. you need to follow it up with water. 3 biscuits need a full glass of water to digest properly (i'm not even joking:-) !!!) Eat lots of leafy greens, it will maximise water absorption.

banana.gifAnd nivea truly works. If too greasy, tone your face with a 4:1 water and apple cider vinegar solution, and apply cream. If not moisturising enough, add about a tbsp of vit E oil to your tub of nivea, mix and use as normal.

Hi,

I think you should have a look at this website http://www.midnightsecrets.co.uk the company have produced a range of skincare for afro-caribbean skin.

The range, called Naturally Native, is made with natural, fair trade, exotic african oils. They have a Green Tea and Lychee facial wash which does not strip the skin and leave it feeling dry like other soaps and washes can, you should also have a look at the Kalahari & Manketti moisturiser which is non greasy and leaves the skin hydrated. Manketti oil is good for protecting the skin from sun and wind exposure and perfect for the climate we live in, in the UK.

Naturally Native also produce a Baobab Night cream. This cream is quite thick but the Baobad oil is intensively moisturising and works to penetrate the skin deep down to take away the dry skin.

This range is well worth the money. I and alot of my friends have coverted to using only this product, especially as it was designed for black skin. So many products on the market are labelled as "for all skin types" but quite frankly this is rubbish, I know, I've spent soooo much money buying skincare that brings me out in spots or makes my skin swim with oil, I'm glad to find one that no longer does that.

I really recommend you have a look at the site and see if any of the products are right for you, I hope so

Good Luck Champagne33

TwinLabs NaPCA spray (I get mine from The Vitamin Shoppe) is effective on my skin and it doesn't contain any type of oil or grease.  Other than that, make sure your skin is damp before applying lotions/creams.
