| Cod liver oil tablets and vitamin E are supposed to be quite helpful.

| Zambesia Botanica scalp cream is the best and you only have to use it two times a day for two weeks to get your scalp back healthy then use when needed. Found in Health Food shops. But also dandruff is linked to too many dairy prducts in the diet and meat like Bacon and sausages so try and change that for a while. Last edited on Monday April 10th, 2006 10:20 by 1sam1

An "Apple cider" rinse after shampooing is great for dandruff, itchy and flaky scalp.
You can find a bottle of Apple Cider Vinegar at Holland and Barrots or some supermarkets ( look for the ones which are organic and/or have no other added ingredients )
All you need to do is dilute some of the cider vinegar with water ( 2 cider vinegar to 6 parts water ) then massage into your scalp for a few minutes and rinse out ..
Id recommend shampooing with Head & Shoulders (for dry scalp) before the cider rinse or just on its own as a regular shampoo
Hope this helps

Are you show Head & Shoulders is a good option? I tried that some months ago and my scalp came out 10 times worse. It was like the winter olympics all over again.

lol o.k , So far it has worked for me ..but I have locs so I always dilute my shampoo's with water , I havent tried the shampoo without diluting it so maybe that could be why I havent had a problem ..
Did you try the one specifically for dry scalp ( called soothing) or the one for sensitive skin? cus it could be that you may have used the wrong one, or maybe its just a case of what works for some might not work for others.
But it is worth trying the cider rinse ,

Coating your hair and scalp with grease or heavy oils (most especially petrolatum and/or mineral oil) can actually cause scalp flaking.
Coatings of heavy oils (or having a naturally very oily scalp) combined with infrequent shampooing causes a retention of excess moisture to the scalp; this in turn can cause skin cells to rise prematurely and build up on the surface of the scalp -- ie, flakes. To my understanding, true dandruff has a different cause and actually leaves greasy (rather than dry) yellowish flakes on the scalp.
I stopped the scalp greasing ritual myself when I was a teen, and with that my flaking & itching days were over. If you really feel the need to oil your scalp, try pure jojoba; it is a light and non-occlusive liquid wax and is closer to human sebum than other plant lipids.

I'm sure if i'm spelling this write but the is these natural tablets that they can get from holland and barratt called Selenium.
Selenium works along with nature's other protectors to guard cells and tissues from free radical damage. Excessive free radicals can attack vital cell structures and cause damage.
My sister uses these and they have cleared up her dry scalp.

I agree with 1sam1 about the dairy thing. As long as I stay away from that stuff my scalp is fine. A slice of pizza is enough to make my scalp look like smashed up Jacob's Crackers.
I've been cutting down on the petrolatum/Petroleum also. I've made my own scalp moisturiser from melting cocoa butter, coconut oil and some olive oil together, then addimng some vitamin E when it's cooled down a little. It requires more frequent application than normal hair grease but so far my scalp looks pretty clean and not dry. Carrot oil is good too.

| When I have had this problem in the past I have added a little tea tree oil into my shampoo and this worked wonders for me. Made my scalp feel really refreshed too. The flaking stopped instantly. I also find that when I use hair grease too much the problems gets worse. I tend to grease my scalp once or twice a week only and thats all I need. I use Organic Root Stimulator - Carrot Oil and this really works for me.

First of all, using grease and other scalp creams are detrimental to the health of your scalp. In fact, this will cause even more flaking and itchiness.
The best thing, which is free (well, after the whole thing with Thames Water! lol)
Drink your required amounts of water. I drink about 2 and a half litres a day. My scalp loves me and thanks me for it
Also, a great diet is paramount to all of the above.
Lastly, stay away from soda drinks, junk food, sugary snacks and other toxins that will pollute your body and affect your scalp.
You are what u eat, right?
