Was just wondering if anyone in the village knows of anyone who has Arthitis at a young age or if you know of any natural treatments that could be of help.
I was diagnosed with RA in my early teens and have been on almost all of the medications avaliable in the UK but none have really helped.. My condition has been getting worse and I have recently had to have a wrist fusion ( surgery where they fuse the wrist bone, when the wrist joint is worn down).
For those who are not familiar with Arthritis it is an autoimmune disease which occurs when the bodies immune system attacks the joints which can lead to joint and bone deformities, stiffness and a whole lot of pain.
This disease is mainly associated with the elderly so there is not much of an understanding when you are a teenager or young adult trying to cope with everyday life.
Because of the association of Arthritis and the elderly, I (and many other young people with Ra) have been in many situations where people just can't seem to understand that simple things like opening doors, running for a bus or most of the things people take for granted can be very difficult at times..
Its not an easy thing to deal with but its one of these things where u cant let it get to you, or you,ll prob end up depressed.
I hope if there is anyone reading this post with Arthritis or any other chronic illness they can take some comfort in knowing that they are not alone
I'd appriciate any responses,

The doctor of the future will give no medicine but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet and in the cause and prevention
of disease.
It was allegedly said by Thomas Edison but there is no proof currently. I have an idea where he got his inspiration if he did say it and it was from a black man I have researched.
Discussion of quote
http://msgboard.snopes.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=32;t=000437;p=1
Now with this quote, I am not a doctor, nor a medical expert to any degree, but I am interested in what kind of human frame of mind your in, are you under stress, around it alot, surrounded by bitter hate, are you happy most of the time (quite serious about this one), etc. They do affect your health just as fear kept inside does tear away at your body.
There was a man who died trapped in a railroad boxcar in mid summer by "freezing" his mind to death and left a note indicating it. The temperature of the boxcar was a little warmer that the outside and it had breathing areas but he still died due to his own preconceived fear. He could have ride the night away and been rescued the next morning but he psyched his body into thinking he was "freezing" to death. That's not cool.
Second what kind of human frame of body related to diet your in. What do you eat? What do you drink?
There are herbs that give some relief but it wont be that effective without the frame of mind and the frame of body being addressed. That may be one reason why many 'touted' things dont 'work' in my opinion these days
Studying the ancestors have yielded many ways to treat yourself, you just have to discover if you are able body on your own. Nobody around me taught me this I literally had to go out on my own and do this.
I am not a sufferer of this condition but I was moved when I saw old people in my community suffer from it and wanted to know was there anything I could do.
Hence the ignition to my studies in the matter.

Thank you for the information
I got RA at 15 so I hope all is well with your daughter.
defyfear
Thanx for your input
What you are saying is very interesting,
I understand how the way we feel mentally can affect the body.
This is something I also agree is worth thinking about,

From your description it sounds like what my friend has got but to be quite honest I'm not sure what it is called. I know that she has to walk with a walking stick and since things have got worse she was asked if she would walk with a zimmer frame!
She's now waiting for an operation. I hope things go well for her, because up until she was diagnosed I had thought it was only really old people who got it.
My friend has to take steriods until the op - is yours that bad?
I hope things get better for you.

Thanx for that
I have changed my diet before by cutting out certain foods which I admit was hard..lol
but I realise that it is something I really do need to stick with.
If you dont mind me asking does your diet consist of no wheat/dairy or is it just basic healthy eating ?
Thanx athaba
Sorry to hear about your friend.
I think my condition is as bad ..
When I was first diagnosed at 15 at one point I was about to be fitted for a because I could'nt walk and had to be carried up and down stairs ..
I am able to walk these days but at times I am unable to take a few steps, I try to keep this under control by taking rests from walking when im out.
I also have the arthritis in my elbows ,wrists and hands..
I have had steriod injections a few times and probably every drug used to treat arthritis avaliable in the uk.
At the moment I take painkillers and Enbrel which is a new drug , I have been told that if this drug dosent work there isnt much else that can be done since I have tried everything .
I have been on the Enbrel for 2 years and symptoms have worsened so it looks like I will have to see if changing things like my diet will help to improve things.
Here is some more info about Arthritis if anyone is interested http://arthritis.about.com/

Hello again,
I have read in more than one report steroid actually make the condition worse to bear.
Some diet tips is to knock out corn syrup products. If its taste sweet. It in there. All the fast food places use it. Most juices from the store have it. Soda has it.
They seem to be too sweet for their own good.
Dairy should be considered also.
Try both in less quantities. Do they magnify or ease your discomfort.
Combination I have seen used are willow, wheat or lawn grass, and some yarrow.
They are reported to have some relieving properties.
Some things our ancestor used is yams. But we dont have access to the above ground part just the tubors in our stores. Only those people in the tropics can tell us more about this.
Some info on yarrow
http://www.ionxchange.com/species_pages/a/achillea_millifolia.html
The best thing for me is you can use one plant in so many ways. There is NO ONE sure way but different ways to accomplish the relief your looking for.
Alot of herbs are strongest with vitals at the Spring time when they try to grow and just before they flower. The part of the plants give different relief at times. Try them out if you have the whole plant.
It can be used alone but I read and personally use it in combination.
Again I am not a doctor or medical praticitioner of any degree, but I hope I have the heart to assist my ailing brethrens.

Hello
Organic foods and only bottle water I drink goats milk. Things like using only olive oil. Little things like that have helped. Oh and wholemeal bread, pasta and rice.
This has helped me a lot but I'm still in a lot of pain. My systems are are loss, mouth and nose ultcers, musle pain and skin lesions on my upper legs that look like ingrown hairs( they leave scars). But since I haver been eating better and getting more exercise has stopped most of the pain in my knees.
I also think that if your overweight that really don't help. i've lost 2 and half stones and that had helped a lot( just three more to go ).
And about steriods I took them for a month and the pain went away completely. But there was no way that i was staying on those the side affects are horrible and I just don't think that its worth it. well not for me anyway.
The herbal root is the way i'm going!

How long have you been on your diet?
Do you prepare all your meals on your own?
Otherwise it seems you must have a tight routine that must be followed.
Maybe for the skin legions just how lotion makers mix different ingredients, maybe if you take some plant based oil and some herbs, mix them and apply it to those areas may yield some relief.
