i know most on this site would never use this stuff but we all know someone that knows someone that knows somebody else that's using this madness.
Read and pass on before someone ends up dying.

Can't even read the full story, and also finding hard to have sympathy for Gina. Applying the self-hate cream SIX TIMES A DAY? Words fail me.
But the saddest part of the article is that this is a multimillion pound industry. So that reflects on how many of us can't stand to look in the mirror.
I noticed how quick the article was to point out that she was Jamaican, so no doubt that will cause its own debate.

What made me laugh was when the article described the advert about the dark actress that felt that she couldnt be successful without being light. The message of that advert must have been so raw and direct. Public images voice the message of 'superior' lighter skin with some degree of discretion, i never thought that any commercial would voice the message out so blatantly.
My opinion and perspective is that light skin is a blessing, dark skin is a blessing in disguise.

I really feel sorry for women(and some men) who are suffering under the tyranny of this whole bleaching nonsense,it is so incredibly sad,I just cant imagine not being happy or feeling worthy because of the shade of my skin.
I can understand if a person has raging acne or some other skin affliction and they are doing their best to change that, but to me there is no skin more beautiful than black,smooth,non-patchy,from caramel to aubergine.
So for Gods sake ladies concentrate on the quality of your skin, not what shade it is,invest in some good skin care products and let its natural beauty shine,if only you knew your skin was the envy of the world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What's wrong with you Carribeans and Britons?
To be serious, I had never heard of this skin bleaching nonsense (besides Michael Jackson) until talking to you guys on Blacknet. Maybe people do it here in the States as well, but I never see it. People like that are truly pathetic.

What on earth are you on about???? EVERY country on this planet that has black people have their bleachers, I will also have you know that some of these products are made in the USA, by black companies.

Just because you have never heard of it does not mean it does not exist. I could actually go on to mention where is it most pervalent but I don't feel the need to POINT FINGERS.

@ Miss Nellia
I was joking about the "you Carribeans and Britons". It must be more concealed here in the States, because I honestly cannot think of one person who bleaches their skin...or even have come across who bleached their skin. I am sure it does happen, but I guess I am just unaware.
I think the best way to expunge this venom is to simply ridicule those who actually bleach themselves. Why give them any of our attention other than ridicule and contempt? Anyhow, I am not trying to point fingers...

Hmmmmmm ha ha Thoth , but I'm not surprised your unfamiliar with this, it is not some thing women openly admit too, they like people to think that they are naturally light, stupid people, but the way to tell is to have a look at their knucles on their hands, always alot darker, also the skin is very patches and uneven, you probably come across them everyday, but didn't realise.

Pick up ANY issue of Ebony or Essence magazines and you will see at least 3 ads fro skin lighteners...the American ads aren't as blatant..they use code words....like "even skin tone".....etc..but they are for skin lighteners....
ads in those two magazines.....of all places..
I think everyone should have gotten your sarcasm.....about you "britons and caribbeans"......it was pretty clear that you were kidding....
BUT...weaves, skin bleacheners,etc...it goes down everywhere theat you find Black people.....unfortunately...think it's just more blatant in some places....

Lol not true. I have used Palmers Even Skin Tone creme for my acne blemishes and it does just that, fades my acne blemishes. It isn't made to bleach your skin as I have used two containers of the stuff and I'm not a shade lighter......

Most people here used that stuff to get rid of dark spots left from acne. However, there are women in my neighborhood from other countries who use it to bleach and I can spot them immediately. The skin color looks weird and the dark spots get even darker.

Whites use Porcelana for their liver spots and discolorations and blacks use products like the above, but I never hear of anyone talking about actually bleaching their skin. I'm always struck when I notice women who've obviously been bleaching...they look kinda ashamed when we make eye contact. I think they know how bad it looks too.

I have never met anyone or seen anyone who has bleached skin ... it's really weird but i've been to africa, carribean, all over london, all across nearly all black cities in america and have never been able to recognise anyone with bleached skin. What does it look like, I can't imagine. Me myself, I can't wait to go away this summer and get a deep bronzy glowing tan and look radiant with a darker hue. Even I have dark patches on my skin which look uneven but I would NEVER put bleach on my precious skin. Never
Why would someone bleach their skin, I can't imagine it, it's just so disturbing to me. Can you imagine applying that stuff all over your face legs arms, and ruining the colour of your natural skin. Is it even possible to get your normal colour back after using that. So sad, so very very sad.

I've seen several women with obviously bleached skin: all were Indians.
All had splotchy grey-beige faces, with darker circles around the eyes and mouth, and their facial skin tended to look coarse, lumpy and pitted. And the ones who only bothered to bleach their faces had much darker hands, necks, and ears.

I don't know anyone who bleaches personally, but I can recognize it because it's so ghastly and unnatural looking. I don't think you're supposed to wear it in the sun because it darkens any spots that are already present. The only ones I've ever seen were not Americans. I'm going to ask a friend if it's possible to regain natural coloring once the person stops bleaching. I've wondered the same. She used to live in a country where they did that, and called it "cooking" the skin. If I have a dark spot from a pimple I just keep scrubbing and exfoliating as I do anyway until it disappears on it's on.

You have actually used that stuff? I was considering it to smooth out a few dark spots from either razor-burn or blemishes, but I am not with bleaching my skin so I never tried it.
Question...did you apply it over your entire face or just the area you wanted to affect?

Yes I have used it. I applied it to the areas where I had acne blemishes, mostly on my back. Even if you did apply it to unaffected areas it wouldn't do anything to bleach your skin, because its not made for that. So you dont have to worry about applying the creme to each individual spot, you can spread it over the enitire area thats affected. Apply it twice a day and give it about a month to see results. But if you want to avoid cremes all together, try using Mederma. This is a gel specially formulated for scars and I heard it works really well, even for old scars.
