I have seen a good few things posted on the subject of HIV/AIDS on this Forum and other black forums around the world.
It often shocks me some of the things people write on this issue and how laid back many of us apear to be on this issue.
I get the feeling sometimes from some of the things I read that Some of us feel that the isssue of HIV/ AIDS is a Gay problem or an african problem and will not affect us as black people living elsewhere in the world.
I'm particularly disapointed with the caribean attitude on the whole to Issue. As a brother from Antigua and a black man who has been fortunate enough to travel. to many of the caribean Islands. I am very disturbed by the sexual attitudes of brothers and sisters in the Caribean who choose to play with not only thier lives but the lives of their partners by their laid back attitude to sex and choosing not to protect themselves.
Now no one is saying we should not have sex here the main issue I am trying to get across in this post is the importance of Condoms and prevention.Particularly for those of you who are very sexually active.
I'm not sure how many of you are aware but the Caribean is the second most affected region in the world when it comes to HIV/AiDS.
I have statistics on this for those of you who don't believe this fact.

I feel much of our focus when we talk on this topic tends to revolve around the issue of how HIV/ Aids was created by the white man and we spend hours talking on this issue and the other issue of cures created by African doctors etc.
This is all very well but we have to face up to the fact that HIV/AIDS is here and we need to be focusing on how to prevent the spread of this within our communities and the most effective way is the use of a condom if you are sexualy active.
I feel until there is scientific proof to some of these so called cures that exist that have been created by some of these doctors in Africa. we need to focus on prevention rather than cure. I Know Some of these doctors blatently exploit their people with false claims in order to capitalise on thier peoples suffering .
I'm not saying there isn't a cure or claiming that all these doctors are bogus before everyone chooses to respond to this topic negatively.
But I'm saying we cannot afford to be laid back on this issue anymore. Or put all our effort or time when we talk on this issue into cures simply because prevention is the best route and that can only be done through proper education and understanding on how to prevent this.
Here is some more information on some facts please take a look.

i agree with u completley.
Most threads on HIV AIDS do not get a good response in blacknet forums.
and...Like u said the debate tends to centre on the origins of the virus.
In one debate it was concluded that it was a positive thing for black people not to get tested. I challenged this but received NO responses.

When I was in college, I met some Nigerian brothers and one day we were talking about AIDs. They laughed at me because I "believed in AIDS", which, they explained was the white man's way of getting black people to stop having children. They claim that it was all to scare us from having sex. When I asked them why millions of people in Afrika are sick and have died, they said that it was malaria. These guys LAUGHED at me until they were wiping tears from their eyes. They said, "Prove it then. Show us AIDs. Show us what it looks like."
Regardless of what country we come from, Afrikan people need to have a more realistic attitude towards AIDS. We need to practice self control (abstinence) and/or sex with condoms.

Scary innit people are killing themselves through ignorance. Speaking to some African people telling me if your a good Catholic you won' get aids. And that there religion says that people can't use contraception, we were arguing for ages they just don't get it.
As for the caribean people are just in denile. Hiv is high in Trinidad but the youth ignore the warnings.
Catholics need to stop preching the crap they do in Africa. Listening to these adults reminds me of when I was a child thinking that God heals people and if you pray enough mircles will happen, this is still how these think. And the church doesn't tell them any different.

Racist actions of government agenices in the past..such as "the tuskegee experiment".....have left legacy of mistrust for government by black people..
it was reported and admitted..that in NYC, USA....govenrment agency was using hiv positive Black and latino orphans as guinea pigs for aids medicines still in development....
that's understandable the fear and mistrust of government......but black organizations have to get out more information to our people about what is fact( as the scientific community currently understands it)...and what is fiction.....
Let's not allow out mistrust(justifiable) of the government keep us from protesting and educating ourselves.......
Any group that claims to represent Black people have responsiblity to educate us about health realities.....

Precisely. Far too long we've made little ground in the areas of medical science and medicine, we seriously need an African influenced pharmaceutical to give ourselves CREDIBILITY and make our so called governments accountable.
Otherwise the question I ask; What difference does it make if AIDS was manmade or not.
One other thing I think about, if we do have the credibility in these areas be it regional, international, can we except our leaders in pharmaceutical to be given the media platform to represent us? I doubt it. I think they'll play the same game as they do with our political leaders. Where we have paid-out half-wit halfbreed blind liberal speaking the voice of our enemies and I say "enemies" because when they do just THAT, they are in the position to lead us to our deaths, as WE are they ones with ALL these disease and not them and there lives.

The "public forum" by tavis smiley on cspan...each year and other free media outlets are perfect opportunity to expalin and educate our people about reality and perceptions....
It's goo dto question what is presented by the government...BUT......that's half the battle, the other half is to seek the truth for yourself and act accordingly....
I put up the info about "the tuskegee experiment" because, whether my man meant to do so or not, his story potrayed African(nigerians) as being uninformed...I'm sure it's a true story but the way it was told would have some beleive that these nigerian college students were naive to the point of endangering themsleves...
Nah....if people in the united states are fearful and mistrustful..of what our govenment and the west tell us..... with good reason......you would have to expect people in other countries to be EVEN more fearful and mistrustful of what the west has to say......we've seen the evil done here towards communities of color.... can oly mage the damage doen elsewhere....
I'm Haitian and lived through the (early to mid 80s)ignorance of people who looke dJUST like me..beleiving what white guy on tv said about aids... and how "haitians all carry it" but I don't stereotype black americans as all being ignorant....there are idiots and easily manipulated people in every group......some lean towards beleiving everything white people have ever said.......some lead towards not beleiving ANYTHING that whites say...
