You can help lactose intolerance by taking lactase supplements or by gradually increasing your lactose intake starting w/yogurts.

Well somebody better do a better job of getting the word out about 'African-Americans' ALL being Lactose intolerent. Funny thing is, I've only met a handful of Americans Black or White that couldnot tolerate very, very high doses of Dairy products.

Basically, I believe this is nothing but a myth!

Afroamericangirl: It doesn't help being dismissive about the links between milk and valid health concerns. Not all black people might be intolerant to milk and dairy products but its not to say milk as a 'danger' food to some people is a myth.

As this is a health forum, you could support your views with some facts as to why milk might not be to blame for some heath problems. I for one, am open-minded and will readily consider new findings, whether they prove or disprove what i know.

Black Aviator: You'd be surprised to know pork (unprocessed) is as good as any other meat, even if eaten with a little of the fat on. Most people don't eat pork for religious/ cultural reasons. Most don't even know why!!!

blktype Religion tarred the image of many animals, and the humlbe pig was one. I'm going to research the pros and cons of pork as a food source; will be back with findings soon.

Maat wrote: Thanks for this one Tru-Afri-Can. I was just reading the link you gave on Soya milk and can't help but wonder what the difference is the western diet in comparison to the Asian and South American diet.

The article talks about people who have eaten soya as part of their diet for centuries so it must be the western diet that makes it bad for us. Or could it be the way it's manufactured?confused3

This is more likely the way their food are grown rather than the way they are process, the way they are process also make it worst.
The European these days grown their food for profit, quantities and to be impeccable, in order to archive this you need some chemical process, obviously what goes to the soil and the crops finish their life cycles in our body

Actually soya and soya based products are good for women who are going through their menopause, vegetarians and vegans and those of us who are lactose intollerant.

As for microwaves, we dont all have time in this fast paced society we live in to reheat food in the pan. As long as i can reheat my soul food wuickly and effficently i give microwaves a big thumbs up

LOL.

My proof: I am Afro-American, not a African-British pulling up articles on the internet about Afro-Americans.

I'm 100% AA. I have a 100% AA family! I have 99% AA friends. lol

We have no problems eating nor digesting diary products.

This reminds me of the claim on Sickle cells. I remember growing up in school all my teachers use to tell me that it was a "Black" diases. Well when I got in high school people researchers started admitting many Southern Europeans and Arabs had Sicle cells as well. Instead of admitting these people had Black blood they decided to finally say "Sickle cells affects people who have ancestors in from tropical climates........"

Basically you're reading stuff with broad generalzations on it!blktype

Afroamericangirl: Oh my, I expected better!!! I hope you're under 20 (make that 18) because immaturity and ignorance is coming through in your response. It seems you need education on health as a whole:(.

You might want to know, I am a graduate involved in the sciences, health being a big part at the moment. Don't contribute if you have nothing helpful to share.

Dear Tru-Afri-Can,

You list is scary as one can hardly avoid all the stuff on it, especially in the U.S.

Not using microwave is near impossible

All you listed are true.

We should also take note of the products we use on our skin, especially my fellow Africans who detest natural African products.

I am always shocked to have Africans in the U.S. ask me "what is African black soap or Shea butter.

Most would rather die than use pure shea butter on their skin.

David: I know what you're saying, i think less of commercially produced foods is the least that anyone could do.

:) Don't even get me started on creams, soaps and such. Everything now is so well presented (and the good stuff phased out) you almost have no choice but to go with the flow.

The well and healthy can monitor their health, but those with health problems (no matter how small) should take it seriously. Avoiding commercial foods etc can be done. Although you'd probably have to learn how to cook from scracth!!!:D
