As Tai Chi Ch'uan/QiGong becoming more popular, especially here in the USA many individuals don't really understand, or know what actually is Tai Chi. Most people think this gentle art is just good to release stress and for relaxation only.

Yes, it very true. Tai Chi Ch'uan/QiGong is meditation form that do release stress, and good to relax the body and mind. But, it do alot more than just cause relaxation. Its health benefits are very broad and scientifically proven.

Tai Chi Ch'uan/QiGong helps build up the immune system to heal the body from chronic diseases, and prevent internal illnesses like high and low blood pressure, heart diseases, cancers, diabetes, obesity, and much much more illnesses that we face in our today world.

Tai Chi Ch'uan/QiGong disciplines the individual mind to manifest his/her Chi {internal energy} to cause oxygen to flow freely throughout the body so he/she can properly heal him/herself. This is how Tai Chi Ch'uan/QiGong through its soft slow meditation movement inline the whole body by relaxing the muscles, joints, tendons, and ligaments so the body, mind and soul can be healed from whatever illness the individual is facing.

This also another reason why Tai Chi Ch'uan/QiGong is known as the perfect medicine for the human body. Because its soft forms teaches the individual to inline the poster of the whole body to move naturally, and to breathe correctly so the healing process can begin. In other words getting back in tone with nature!!! This is the main reason that many of us, specially in the black community face many different diseases and illnesses cause our body is not in tune with nature, to be out of alignment.

For example: just like driving a car. If the car is not in proper alignment the car will not run properly and many trouble will occur. Then, sooner or later you have to take the car to the shop to get it fix, right?

It's the same way with our physical structure, if the body is out of alignment for whatever reason sooner or later the individual have to visit a doctor to be treated for whatever illness.

Tai Chi Ch'uan/QiGong through its soft movement and gentle breathing align the whole body so the the individual can be healed or free from illness and diseases... That's why it's perfectly good for health!

And, through the same process Tai Chi Ch'uan/QiGong helps build up the muscle tissues to cause the whole body to be fit and tone too. There are specific Tai Chi exercises that help lose weight, and build muscles, or just tone up the body to be in tip top shape.

Also Tai Chi Ch'uan/QiGong teaches the individual to eat properly which is known as Chi Food. Eating the right kind of food like fruits and vegetables cause the chi {energy} to make the digrestive system to work correctly, and help keep the body cleanse and the blood pure. This is why you notice vegetarian and vegan look very young for their age {10-20 yrs. yoounger}.

In the Shaolin system of both Northen and Southern Gung-Fu there are many different forms in The Art Of Tai Chi. But, the most popular is

The meaning of Tai Chi Ch'uan And QiGong:

Tai - high, highest, far in the distance.

Chi - extreme, outermost end, outermost point, peak or summit. 

Ch'uan - fist.

Qi (Chi) - steam, smoke, breath, life energy.  

Gong (Kung) Success, performance, effect.

I started doing Wild Goose Qigong about four months ago.  It has greatly improved my circulation and it is very, very peaceful and relaxing.  I learned from a DVD called "The first 64 movements".  Apparently there are more, but I'm very satisfied where I am now.
