I have been have this debate for a long time with my friends .......every now then it always comes up..... they seem to believe that its caused naturally and can't be helped sometimes..... I believe otherwise...... just think its a case of not washing properly..... or plainly not washing at all
What do you think about it??...
BTW I know it could be a touchy subject for some females on BN..... but thats not my intention for starting this topic... just plainly want to get new views on this.

| Unless you are on your period, but then you should change you mean of protection regularly if you know you get a strong smell, i think it is bad hygiene.

Bacterial Vaginosis - which can be caused by overwashing
this can be a naturally acquired and sexually acquired disease that cause the vagina to smell fishy.
Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, and Thrush can cause the Vagina to smell.
Wearing tight trousers can cause the vagina to smell as air to the vagina is reduced, and as the area is warm it causes bacteria to multiply
But, then some people are just plain nasty and need to hol' a fresh

| I think alot of it is hygiene. So much stuff out there is written about feminine hygiene that it leaves people confused and many women don't really know how to properly care for themselves.Thorougly cleansing with soap and water and staying shaved completely, helps to keep odor at bay. But many women are afraid to touch certain areas and only wash the outer area. They are afraid because of the risk of yeast infections mostly.

Ahh i think Free and Medusa have convered quite enough......
But just wanted to say that, also....women should be careful with using normal soaps for personal Hygiene....i think the best ones are the femine intimate wash that are SOAP free and fragrance free......
Another secret that many don't know is: NEVER ever use hot water.....use room temperature or cold water.....also,don't wash just the outer regions...you know what i mean...lol....
And yes Medusa is right, a trim does go along way to help with the keep......

Yeah, Just using soap and water is enough,
Using those feminine hygiene products like wipes and sprays mess with the body's natural smell and can infact make it worse.
It also can be caused my not wiping properly.
Wearing no underwear to bed can ease this as it allows air to get to it and prevent bacteria from building.

bacteria vaginosis does cause a fishy smell. and as someone said already it can be caused by soaps detrgents perfume etc. tight clothes etc. over washing and using feminine wipes
most of teh time its natural but it is a sign of a bacteria inbalance.

| its ironic that the things we do to keep ourselves fanny fresh are what CAUSE the odour!! i wash twice a day, (in and out) with shower gel and warm to hot water, wipe thoutoughly, change my pad regularly and use fem wipes when i am "on" for added freshness. Now it turns out that all that fanny freshing i was doing was leading to fanny fishing lol. on the plus side, no one can say you smell coz u don't hol' a fresh, as its holing the fresh that is making you smell!! guys have it relatively easy in that department, yet some of them are STILL nasty!!! if u cyan wash unda yu hood, mek like a Jew and chop i' off!!!

Fishy smell is caused by Bacterial Vaginosis which is not sexually transmitted, it is caused by irritants or antibiotics that throw off the natural ph balance of the vagina. It is especially noticable after washing, sex, or during menustration.... Irritants that can cause BV are usually douching, perfumed soaps, body washes, detergents, dyes in underclothes and antibiotics. Usually, a woman who has poor hygiene will smell another kind of stank instead of fishy. Wearing tight trousers and thong underwear can cause yeast to grow as this fungus thrives in warm, moist enviornments. I only use Dove soap to wash down there because anything else is an irritant to the kitty, no thongs unless I am wearing for a very short time, and no tight pants.  Women should talk to thier gynecologists about these things, and should also read medical books to become better educated about their kitty instead of listening to old wives tales. A lot of women do not know anything about these kinds of problems. The excessive "washing" with harsh perfumed soaps, douching and feminine sprays, are the culprits of STINKY KAT. Any gynecologists will tell you that.

Wearing tight trousers and thong underwear can cause yeast to grow as this fungus thrives in warm, moist enviornments. I only use Dove soap to wash down there because anything else is an irritant to the kitty, no thongs unless I am wearing for a very short time, and no tight pants.
Damn so that means..... u gotta be watching out for ladies in thongs and tight jeans..... oh lord u two will get me paranoid now......Lol

There's a girl at work who always wears the tightest jeans. The way they're hitch up in her crevice I'm sure it's for clitorial stimulation. Sistas be washing like greys and using greyman products to bathe and keeping up unhygenic fashion standards. I believe each woman has their scent but then there are women who seem not to smell in the slightest.
But still, I heard a brotha say no matter how good a white woman looks, when she takes off her knickers it's like wooah! good heavens!! at the stench....but guess what, I bet he still doesn't pass on it though 
Me personally, anything that doesn't smell right frightens me. Like the smell of a sewer, the identification of bad smells is the brains way of telling the beholder that something isn't right and at worse is not meant for human consumption.

Washing with fragrenced soap near the female genitile areacan cause thrush which causes that stink; so it doesn't necessarily mean it stinks as a result of her not washing- it could be vice versa- washing/scrubing too much can cause the stink too.

The female organ excudes a natural musty smell anyway it just that some women are not familiar with their bodies and the cycle of their bodies enough to know when a problem is occuring.
ALSO
Some of these women who have personal hygiene problems are so embarrassed they won't do anything about it. Or they are to scared to go and see a doctor because they think they have an STI. Or they think if they buy an expensive cologne (GUCCI RUSH) and drown their clothes in it they will cover it up.
The problem is education..... as more and more girls are having sex earlier and treating their vaginas as an orifice to be plugged , it's up to the more experienced of the species to inform them of their right to examine their bodies ( there's nothing wrong with taken a hadn mirror and having a GOOD LOOK AROUND) so they can tell any changes (discharge etc...) before they begin to feel unfresh.
THE remedy....... dont use palmolive or imperial leather or any of those fool fool soaps. Try SIMPLE or DOVE as someone mention before...or you can even go for a natural soap...available from any health shop.

You can also use aqueous cream as an alternative to clean the area, it is better than using soap.
@Lady Day... I know it is not sexually transmitted as BV is naturally occuring but if you have unprotected sex with your partner it can develop due to the fact that semen will disturb the vaginas natural PH (which is why you should go to toilet straight after sex)... but, if you continue to have unprotected sex (especially if you are married/ long term committed relationship) it can be passed backwards and forwards; between the sexual partners.
