@Blackpower
I have just joined the gymn
I do 20 minutes of treadmill at 7.5 miles per hr at 8%slope
then 5 minutes each on the rowing machine and bicycle at various profiles with increasing resistance
Then I move on weights..............interesting machines with the ones for the upper body at 10 kg, and for the bottom machones uptp 40 kg
I finish off with 100 situps and stretching.
The problem.......................I have been doing this for 1 months and I aint seen sh*t changes
bare in mind I can only spare 1 and half hours as I do it at uni inbetween breaks
what I am looking to accomplish is tomed, no bulk but still some cut up musles...............and a super flat stomach.
my diet is good with eating every 2- 3hrs food of various fruit and veg, I aint gonna lie i do have a chocolate bar a day and meat.
I fogot to add 3 times a week at the gymn

How do you do your sit ups?
try
10 x straight x 10 x right 10x left
repeat this 3 times
as for seeing visable changes have your only supposed to see starts after a months so I wouldnt really worry about that too much
do you ue free wight at all?

BP, how long on average, does it take a person to lose a dress size?
Is it really true that actresses use amphetamins (sp) to keep slim?
How do they mange to keep thin, usually till the day they die?

Then onto weights between threadmills with five minutes each on: squats/pulldown/butterfly/arms press/bench press
lots of water
80s soul on way home in car.

Hi Ladyday,
I will try and help you out as much as I can. Tai Chi is first and foremost a martial art so there is a strong emphasis on technique as with all martial arts. The movements are soft and relaxing and there is an emphasis on correct breathing and flow rather than strength. It also based on the Chinese yin and yang (balance) and is great for relaxation and stress management as it is meditative.
Pilates is great for breathing, increasing flexibility, suppleness, and posture as it was originally aimed at injured ballet dancers. It is remedial and helps with rehabiliation of injuries. It is exercise orientated and is very helpful for people with injuries as it is no impact and uses apparatus to help with correct alignment and to achieve postures. Pilates increases your strength also.
Yoga is similar to Pilates in that it is no impact and will help you control your breathing, increase suppleness and posture and increase strength but Yoga has a spiritual emphasis being unity between the mind, body and spirit and that Breath is the source of life. Yoga has an greater emphasis on alignment than Pilates and whereas Pilates is pretty much Pilates wherever you go there are over 40 styles of Yoga which are all based on different emphasises e.g. breathing, postures, alignment etc... Some styles of Yoga use props to help you achieve postures like blankets, belts, chairs etc.. In the end they are very similar it just depends what is right for you.
Yoga and Pilates will aid your pelvic floor muscles as they focus on every part of your body both inside and out and you can feel it working. I have practised both styles and I found that I was always more relaxed at the end of a Yoga class but neither of them are a walk in the park. I would really suggest you take a class rather than buy a video until at least you learn the technique because in Yoga especially it is very hard to align yourself and it is helpful to have a teacher guide and correct you as you do the exercise so that you don't injure yourself through overextension. They can also accelerate the results you achieve so how knows in six months from now you could be doing the splits!!!! I mean that is how long it took me.
I hope it helps.

DestinysDream thank you so much that was very well written. i have been out off yoga. but i will definitly get my pilates dvd and see about a class attendance
the book i have is called "the book of pilates by joyce gavin" i bought it in woolworths. it does say that i need to master the breathing techniques before i move on to the introduction level.
due to travel problems this is my starting point.

Do you want to loose weight with natural suppliments and still keep your muscle or gain muscle and create the slightly "ripped" look?
i.e Bruce lee or lucas (but not to that extreme)
or lennox lewis/ tyson look

In order to lose a dress size in 2-3 weeks, what form of exercise would you recommend?
Is walking better than jogging?
Is exercising 20 min 3 times a week the minimum a person should exercise in order to lose a dress size?
Does age matter when it comes to exercises?

Hi Ladyday
Hope it was helpful. So you have chosen Pilates, you will find it much easier to follow a book/video after a few classes. There is only one problem with Pilates classes though they tend to be quite expensive, you will be lucky to find a class for under £20 for a hour-hour/half that's why its Yoga all the way for me. Don't let me put you off though as you might be fortunate enough to find something much cheaper I have a feeling those are over inflated LONDON charges and I am getting the idea you don't live in London. Where in the country are you?
Good luck with your workout.

@ BP
Been trying to bulk up my legs and glutes for 2 months now and I've only made minimal progress. I'm on a strict diet of only chicken, veggies and fruit whenever I eat. I eat 4x a day.
My routine is 5 sets of 30 lunges, 5 sets of 30 squats, 3 sets of 60 calf-raises. 3 days a week. No weights.
My question to you is what can I do to speed the results to bulk my legs up and if you suggest weights what is the appropriate weight. Also what specific food or supplements(no steroids) can I use to help me get there faster. I also want that ripped look Kunjufu was talking about.

Kunjufu
lewis look is not really hard to achieve and can be obtained without suppliments
I suggest
Hit 2 body parts per workout 3 exercises per bodypart after warmup
Find poundages you feel comfortable (but no too easy) that you can lift between 12-20 reps with
work 4 sets per exercise (after warmup) by the 4th set you should only be able to sqeeze out the 12th rep that will mean the weight is correct
Also choose a day and just do 1hr cardio, either 2 or 3 kinds
this can be 20mins running (or jogging) 20 rowing 20 cycle or split anyway you feel just make sure you at least hit 10mins hard work
keep eating and you see a difference

Yup many brothas have problem with "chicken leg" syndrome myself included I only started to work legs since the start of the year
Man the problem with your workout is if you can do 30 quats then your not really gonna shock your muscles into growing
you too should be HEAVY squats and trust me you CAN take it!!
look for between 10-12 at start but remeber you gotta up the weight till the 4 set you can only hit maybe 4 or even 3 (it may seem small but it matters) super heavy. Repeat the heavy set then follow with a light set. that should sort you out
calf raises I do sets of 20-25 again 60 is too time consuming so adjust the weight so suit this.
Most probably you will need to invest in so whey & creatine (im greating a seperate suppliment post)
hope this helps
