Tuesday night around 11pm my car was stolen

I was at a freinds house and had to park a far down the road as many cars were parked up and the road was busy

Had alarm swicthed on but didnt fit the steering lock as I only really stick the lock on when im at work or last thing at night. I know it sound silly but the key is bent so its a slight long timg to do.

Anyway went back to spot around 1am car gone, glass on the floor ect ect

Phoned police, they never came out but took details and gave me crime number over the phone.

they advised me that cos the car was modified and basically stuck out like a sore thumb plus it was stolen from near my home it was probably taken to order and basically if they didnt find it within 24hrs It would probably be broken and sold to dodgy peeps

Im now going to make a claim

First time ever however the car is worth much more now then when I insured it

will  money for the mods??

How do I go about claiming what do I say in order for them to pay up as I really need the money back

I had alarm fitted and switched on so Im in the right correct?

Well you know insurance is a big rip off - dats why i aint got none.  niceone.gif(i know peeps are cussin me now)

The only way youll get paid for dem mods is if you included it in your insurance policy eg.did you tell dem when they asked if your veichle had any modifications.                 If not you aint gettin no more than book price which is usually lower than wot you paid for tha car.

Then you have to pay excess, wotever your was set at,every policys different.

Then you lose your no claims bonus.Or half of it depending on how many years you got.Who you insured wid anyways??

insured through TESCOS

I never included amy mods as most of them are cosmetic apart from the K&N and minor engine tuning

BP if u didnt mention the modifications then they wont be included. at the most what you will get is the private market value of ur vehicle sans mods.

how many years NCB do u have? is it protected? if not then it may not be worth it because of the following...

* they may give u peanuts for ur car

* and if u have no NCB or it wasnt protected u will loose it

* and when u lose ur NCB u premium will go up about 40%

* then u will have to buy a new car, the settlement money will just about cover that

* and because of the claims history, u r looking at double premium when u come to re insure.

@ All

You should always tell ur insurance company ur going to modify the car before u actually do it.  Reason for this is some insurance companies do not allow certain modifications and will not continue to insure you, or the actual modification itself can bump up ur premium.  I used to work for an insurance company, if u need anymore tips let me know.

Continuing that theme U should declare everything to your Insurance Brokers/Company even your speeding points..if U don't and they discover thru' investigation or observation some point about your insured car(on an inspection for example) they will take GREAT DELIGHT in voiding your claim!........They try to worm out of paying by using any legitimate excuse....same for any type of Insurance like Household or Contents I'm afraid......one lil point not right and OUT the Claim goes!

Dear..I'm afraid Sir/Madam U made it easier for their entry..blkblah.....You've been burgled?...When can we inspect your property Sir/Madam?.....I'm afraid Dear Policyholder that we have assessed your goods/chattels @ £12,500 and you've only insured them for £6,250 !!  i.e 50% of their worth...then YOU only get 50% of your losses less your "excess" first £200(to prevent small claims) of course......Quote Me Happy?:P

i used to work as a claims official for a big insurance company, and the amount of times we were encouraged to dig deep and find anything, any reason, to refuse a claim.

we used to turn ppl down for lil things, like ur car wasnt parked where u said it would be, etc.

u defaulted on a month's payment..etc...

it was harsh, a souless job, hard to do if u have a heart.

Heres some handy tips:

Don't ever lose ur job cos if ur unemployed ur premium doubles to backside

Even if u are employed the nature of ur job affects ur premium

As does the area you live in, where u park the car etc

Advantages to being married is u get a discount if u put ur spouse on ur policy

Check the alarm system u have installed cos that can get u a discount

Protect ur ncb if u can

If u just passed ur test go for the pass plus if u can, that will give u 1yr ncb

This one should be standard - check the insurance rating before u buy the car

If you do have any points on ur license u do not have to declare it if it is 5yrs old

If u add a person onto ur policy the premium can go in ur favour depending on who u make the primary driver, you or the person u just added
