| I am an black american female who wants to visit london this year but have no clue as to where to go and what to see while there. Not about the traditional "white, tourist" london but want to know the real London from a black perspective. I apologize if this is not the right forum but I had to start somewhere. Thinking about going to acting school there. Can anyone help? Lady M

Depends on what type of things environment you want to experience. I would say whilst you are here make the most of the London street markets. You must experience the following
Brixton Market
Ridgley Road Market
East Street Market
Aldgate East Market
Walthamstow Market
Portabello Market
I personally feel for sightseeing there is a beauty to the bridges at nightfall, London Bridge, Embankment, Chelsea Bridge, Tower Bridge etc all you need to do is go on a bus ride to experience this, you don't need to go on those tour buses that charge lots more.
If I think of anything more I will get back to you.

mafdet would you recommend a copy of time out to find out whats going on when she gets here.
you can check their website aswell.
http://www.timeout.com/london/thisweek.php
also the SouthBank river walk is an absolute must, day and night if possible.
from there you can head up to Covent Garden really nice place to stroll around (not sure how old you are??).

Yes timeout is good have to agree with you here. Also whatever area she stays in to get the local free newspaper it always lists events etc.

Can't believe I left off southbank since it was the main reason for me suggesting the bridges. Walking around these areas on a nice summer evening is a must.

Got to agree on Covent Garden stroll so nice and so much better than the noise and chaos of Oxford Street, walking around threater land is a must. Also lets not forget the parks....I particulary love Battersea Park but Dulwich and St James is nice as well.

London is wiked!
from a view of someone who dosn't live there, i love it! i have cousins there who i used to visit every holiday when i was little, but have only gone down once in the past 3 years, and that 2 weeks was one of the best!!!
you can never get bored there! one night go to an rnb night, next go to a latin club, meet people from all over the world. just need £$£$£$ to enjoy it though!!!!
