Hi there
I’m moving to Leeds from Birmingham to study law at Leeds met, I’m sure there is racism there as like all parts of the UK, however will I have to look over my shoulder every 5min or am I just freaking out over nothing?
I welcome all comments especially from those living in Leeds.

my sister went to leeds university .............and then left after 1 year,then went to Newcastle ( don't know why, both are bad as each other)
but don't let this deter you ....see it as a challenge, why should you leave or be scared due to some rednecks..................a swiss knife would be handy.

the accent adds to the sex appeal and she was a great kisser
damm come to think of it I should give er a call someday.......
LoLon the real though blacks do live in leeds
I dunno how they stay though cos Ive only lived in brum and london
but I can imagine its any different from any other big city
put it this way
if you can buy black fod and hair products you will be ok
they wouldnt stock em if they wasnt enough blacks to buy em

Dude...if you're scared of racism...DON'T BE! Racism can occur anywhere. Just because, say, London or Birmingham has loads of black people doesn't mean you are particularly less likely to be a victim of a racist attack(I mean you HAVE heard of Eltham right?).
My uni is outside london in the south where there's like 1 black person for every 100(thats my estmiation so the accuracy might be a bit off but i'm sure you catch my drift)
Not everyone can live in London or Birmingham you know. In fact, i think its a good thing to go to uni outside London or any other place thats got loads of black people, you get to appreciate it more I think(and get away from all the smell, and other things I hate about London) but go back home during your holidays and get happy when you see black people...lolLast edited on Tuesday January 18th, 2005 21:44 by

You never heard a Black Yorkshire accent? I love those women with those northern accents.. always missing out vital words like "the" and "a" .

If your in Chapel Town you should be OK. Plenty blacks down there. You should be able to buy a paiti and some hair cream and other essentials down there..
Otherwise its a desparate place / watch your back in Leeds town centre. Like everywhere it has its share of crazy whites who when they outnumber you will try to get brave...
Worse still when the've had a drink.. and proper northerners drink like they are trying to kill themselves..
But generally the Black people up there are friendly and warm folk. Its that North/ South thing/ what they got to be so happy about up there only god knows still..

Deep sigh... I am thinking of moving to leeds met university and have been to the city to go shopping and get a feel for the place and there is a large population of white people living there yes... but there is black folks too, while visitting i didnt find it particulary racist but im sure the city has its fair share, but all cities are like that, london has its fair share the same as many other cities maybe some have a higher tolerance i dont know.
Im not claiming to know all that mcuh about the city as i dont live there, maybe Tee Jay Cee would be able to give you a better incite?
But if you are that worried have you been to see leeds? If not i think you should if only to put your mind at rest and get to know places.
I meana i live very close to newcastle in the north east of england and believe me it is racist up here but stupid racism, were a boy will drive past and throw racist slurrs while listening to a 50cent cd blasting in the club from his carr, claiming its the best song in the world but black are scumbags 
Just i dunno think about it for a second, in my experience racism only has a negative impact on you if you let it, if you wanna go to leeds met and study and succeed do it, dont let racism stand in your way or drag you down, not matter how bad it is in that particular area, hold your head up high and do you, and let others do them, be strong and get through

I visited Leeds and Hudderfield while in the UK and enjoyed my stay.It was beif and my being American was a curiosity for all the right reasons.
I saw a few Blacks.More than in Liverpool that's forsure. Even went to a Black barbershop in Hudds and had a great time.

I went to Leeds a few times in the past and it was ok. City centre was safe enough. I was seeing a girl in the Seabrook (sp) area (kinda on the outskirts of Leeds). Purely white area, didnt even see an Asian, but I usually returned to London with a boot imprint on my backside.

I've been to Leeds a few times in the past. I used to see this woman from the Seabrook (sp) area, on the northern outskirts of Leeds. Purely white there, not even an Asian in sight, but I usually returned back to London without a boot imprint on my behind.
