Hi im new to this so bare with me but basically im a londoner at uni up north near leeds which has been jigga but now i have to move to Barnsley for my placement does anyone know anything about where to go out and that is there a black community in Barnsley cause im hearing nothing part from the fact its real racist.

I agree with Lady Day's comments. Passed thru the place on the way to London from up North.
I think it not too far from Sheffield or Nottingham could go outa town, or down tat local pub for a pint. Sorry can't be more helpful

@Straight talker. Yep there are black people of a sorts in Barnsley. I rememberd a couple of Black miners during the last major mininig dispute came from there who came to speak to us.

I went to visit it since i was refusing to go so like one of my lectures took me there to set my mind at ease. When i was there i was black people counting i clocked 3 people but like i was wondering if there was a proper ethnic community. But no one seems to know but thanks for your replys im sure i will be ok im gonna just have to go back to london every weekend as my survival mechanism.

@Straightalker I kid you not. These guys were famous because the National Union Of Mineworkers sent them all around London to black communities to gain support. Straight up bro.
But you got to have a survival strategy in any area like that or you will just go mad or worse....GO NATIVE

Very few Black people in Barnsley... and the ones that are there are likely to call themselves 'coloured' and have nic-names like "chocolate-Charlie" and "Darkie-Dorris"
Stay clear of 'local pubs'... they really are only for the local people... and at any given opportunity head for the hills (AKA Sheffield or Nottingham)...
... on good thing tough... after you've bee there a couple of months, you'll have first-hand experience of why interbreeding is so wrong...

Trust me i didnt choose to go to Barnsley im being dragged kicking and screaming.(The things we do for our education)

When every i come back to london i have to go through brixton to get home and i get over excited when i see black people i think you dont realise just how great it is to live in london until you leave it and go and see the rest of england.

I got that one covered ive got every possible spice u can buy up wid me trust whenever i go home for the weekend i come back wid twice as much stuff.My table is full of every possible hair product for just in case.
why bother? And im very much aware what it like to leave the comfort of black surrondings cause my uni is Yorkshire but it hasnt been so bad because when ure at uni u have as much holiday time as uni time plus i hold the record for the most trips home in a semester.Not to mention my uni is full of londoneres who feel the same way as me.
Im just a bit hessitant about going to a place that doesnt even have a student community oh well God is with me so i will be ok.

that is so sad you think that way. most on this board know that i am living it up midland style. barnsley is not midlands. I know that Londoners( i originate born partially educated Londoner) can be accused of not thinking outside the box as far as the rest of the uk. but be assured that black folk in the midlands are not confused!!!!!!! black people outside London are not confused....

@All don't want to mash up the party but would agree about the Midlands Brum and Wolves, with qualification having spent some time there. Certain parts are criss in terms of the community. But man that is where I see the black man who love a white girl. Just go to Aston and Perry Bar back in the day. You would think them man don't like the black woman them. We enjoyed ourselves though.
Nuff raves in Handsworth but always slightly freaked at the amount of Asians on say Heathfeild Road, Lozzells etc. Choca block with them.

Ive only passed through like i wasnt there for long (bham that is) and i saw an awful lot of mixed race guys and gyals. Dont know wether that was coincidental.

birmingham was once dived into black and white
then once a brother forund his white gyal they would move to a neutral area and settle down and have kids
more and more people did this and areas like Nechells (sp) were formed
More mixed race people like there then any other area or brum
from young to old and mixed married mixed and had mixed kids
My boys dad in is his 50's and hes a born and bred mixed race brummie
thats how far back things go
Blacks been here from the jump off of immagration to this country
so our community is well established

@BP can' t argue with you or I would be lying. Talk about West Ham and parts of London eg Croydon and the outskirts and nuff of that .
But true say we used to look forward to a Birimingham Rave big time. Had some decent sounds systems in Brimingham .
BP one problem though. When brothers stop chatting on the mike and you hear that Brummy accent in between then you knew you were in foreign where they cannot speak proper England.....

i went to freaky friday in winson green at one community centre near the prison. place was live. it was acase of spot the english born all good though. winson green a rough area but the dances are live with jerk chicken being cooked outside so you dont have to look for food house
