On Monday a friend convinced me to apply for a job with one of the magic circle law firms which I did thinking that (1) I have one year short of the experience they were asking for (2) it would be a big jump from my current position (3) I wasn’t really looking to change jobs…

Anyway, by the afternoon someone contacted me from the agency dealing with the applications and asked me to take a technical test, which was about 20 questions and quite easy… which I did and forgot all about it…

Then this morning I received a phone call confirming an interview with them this coming Monday at 11am.

Now I have absolutely no idea what to do, I always planned to go for this type of positions in 5 years time not now.

I have checked out the job interview thread and got some great tips but I still can’t help feeling unsure about the whole thing.

It’s as if I suddenly lost all my confidence, which has never happened to me before, I have even contemplated cancelling the interview…

Please help; I don’t know where to start.

First. sh*t happens and been there. Take it as an opportuntity as you have nothing to lose apart from spending time preparing etc and getting experience from the process and the type of questions etc that will be asked etc.

Equally, you can say the leap is too big for your own comfort zone as if like me you do not want to struggle and want to cruise or at least being more in control when or if that job comes.

Either way no sweat. But no need to allow temporary doubt to affect you.

Got to rush and would say a bit more.

Good luck with whatever you do.

Thanks Fredb

I don't know what came over me... i just lost my confidence soon as i heard about the interview.  The fact that i can even get a call back let alone an interview at this stage with such company should really have given me a boost.

I am gone take your advice prepare as much as i can over the weekend and try and do well at the interview, if i then happen to get the job it will be great if not i'll just see it as practice run for the future.

Thanks again

Well done on getting the interview!!!...

... Glad you've got your confidence back and really pleased you didn't cancel... Whatever happens next week, its a fab opportunity and you'd have probably kicked youself if you'd let it pass without at least trying to grab it... Good luck with the interview Sis... I'll have a good thought for you. :)

Hey Abissinia :),

Had to log in for this one and I hope the advice so far has helped calm you down...

Abissinia wrote: On Monday a friend convinced me to apply for a job with one of the magic circle law firms which I did thinking that Good friend. They see in you potential that you may not be realizing right now (or at  the time)

(1) I have one year short of the experience they were asking for Think again! Check out the skills you have gained through all of the jobs you have done not just the current one, which relate to the job criteria. Also think about any similar knowledge you have gained through projects or independent research that relate to the role of this new job. Your research is also experience in itself(2) it would be a big jump from my current position Is this because the role is quite different?  (3) I wasn⼯A>??t really looking to change jobs⼯A>?? If you honestly don't feel ready to move on, still go for the interview. The more you attend, the more practice you will get. It may be an idea to consider whether you are comfortable enough in your current job to stay. Will you get the experience you needed if you stay? If not you may as well take a shot at the new one. Many people who start new jobs are new to everything but in your induction period you can take the time to read up on how things go and how you can help them go there. You're a smart sister it won't take you that long.

Then this morning I received a phone call confirming an interview with them this coming Monday at 11am. Congratulations!! That's great. Remember: You did well to listen to your friend and apply, you got through with your assessment and so far they know you are capable of doing the job. So do you otherwise you wouldn't have applied;).

Now I have absolutely no idea what to do, I always planned to go for this type of positions in 5 years time not now.

I have checked out the job interview thread and got some great tips but I still can⼯A>??t help feeling unsure about the whole thing. Sis try and use the Promicad link for a personal profile. You may get shy when your read your results but there's nothing wrong with acknowledging your worth. If you don't acknowledge it they won't.

It⼯A>??s as if I suddenly lost all my confidence, which has never happened to me before, I have even contemplated cancelling the interview⼯A>??

Please help; I don⼯A>??t know where to start.

Good Luck clp)

A saying I use at times is ...

"No one is better than me.....I am better than no one"

Just a little perspective....hope it helps.

Go for it.Good luck  .....experience is knowledge.

Hey Sis, Geoff's post made me think of something my mum always says to me whenever I've had an exam or interview or any occasion I need to shine... it used to make me cringe when I was younger (especially when she'd shout it real loud outside the school gates in front of all the really 'cool boys' and much to their delight").. but now I think it's comforting and inspirational and I even use it with my own children... it goes...

"When woman on earth has done her best... angels in in heaven can't do any better"

... Isn't that fab! Whether you believe in heaven or not, I just love the concept!

... Still having good thoughts for you Sis... good luck tomorrow. X

I think the interview went well, should have heard something by now but haven't got a call back to say whether i have progressed to second rounds of interviews or not...

To be honest i am not holding my breath... i got the impression that they thought i was too young to be able to handle the position, as it requires travelling abroad and working odd hours...

Why they didn't ask my age before make me waste my holiday stressing is beyond me...  :) Just  kidding...

It was a very good experience... It'd be nice to get a feedback thou.
