Thinking of moving to South London, either Tulse Hill, Forest Hill, Nunhead or Croydon. Before I buy and commit myself to mortgage hell, pls share your insights good and bad on these areas.
Many thanks,
Blessings,
Optimist

Im not too sure about house prices but I know the areas intimately.
Tulse Hill Its ok, You can get a train from Elephant or Blackfriars. Its near Brockwell park so thats a nice thing to have about. Not too far from Brixton so theres is a lot to do. Parking is ok. Loads of buses nearby and you can get anywhere from Brixton, Brixton has a tube station (the only one of your locations that does).
Forest Hill Its quiet. Near Sydenham, you can get there by train from London Bridge. Nice houses around there but not much to do. Hard to get to by bus. Boring!!
Nunhead The quiet side of Peckham. Some nice houses but lots of narrow lil streets. Peckham Rye aint too far so there is a park and a busy shopping area too. Peckham is nowhere near as bad as its made out to be, its London not Sarejevo. Driving is easy aroung there too. Loads of buses from Peckham central but only 2 at Nunhead. Its only a 15 min walk anyway.
Croydon The new Brixton (since everyone is moving there). Its kinda far out but the fast train gets to Victoria or London Bridge in about 20 mins. Easy to drive to but roads are usually congested on the way. Good if you wanna get in and out of London by car easy since the M25 aint far. The nightlife and shopping center is very busy and lively.

Thanks for some great advice. Any advice on good primary schools in these areas. Someone recommended Stillness in Forest Hill?

I was born and bred in Peckham, and now live in Upper Norwood via Brockley, Sidcup, New Cross & Dagenham. As far as I'm concerned there is no better place than South London (certainly a hell of a lot better than Dagenham...couldn't WAIT to come home!)
Drunkmonkey's post is accurate to a point, but I thought Thornton Heath was the "new Brixton" or, as my husband says, "Black man's Beverley Hills"!
To be honest, it does depend on what you want from the area. I would say, though, that if you commute into London, trying to catch a train from Tulse Hill, Forest Hill or Nunhead will be murder....I see people trying to squeeze on these trains every morning, from my comfortable seat, having got the train from Norwood Junction.
If you go to upmystreet.com, you can do comparisons of these areas, which I found helpful when I moved back to civilisation.
Peace
