@ Goofy
I don't know where to begin. Do your parents know you smoke? Can I ask you, why you smoke? Is it to be cool and feel more accepted by your friends? Because if that is the case, it may take you not hanging with them if this is the reason why you light up.
Look I lost someone very dear to me due to the long term effects of smoking, like you he started puffing the cancer sticks as a child and ended up with cancer of the esophagus later in life. He suffered a great deal during his bout with that disease before it eventually took his life. Although it was hard to lose him, we had to accept that it was his choice to smoke in the first place. Like others, he thought it couldn't happen to him. But of course it did.
I really don't like giving advice because from experience I have learned that peeps are going to do what they want to do regardless as with the case with the person I lost because we use to beg and plead with him to stop, but if you really want to kick this habit, you not only need to find out why you do it, you need to replace it with an alternative behavior (one that is positive) that would give you the same pleasure that smoking gives you. It can be one of the sports you like so much. Please remember that sometimes bad choices we make early in life can come back to bite us especially if we don't make changes. Whatever you decide, I wish you the best.

| Try the patches, they really do work!!! I used to smoke 20 a day and 40 a day at the weekend. Although you climb the walls for the first two weeks when you stop, it does get easier and now the smell of smoke on people makes me feel sick. Try changing your routine and that will help you as well. If I can do it anyone can. Good luck, and think of all the money you will save.

at the age of 17 and hooked on smoking what a shame anyway just try and convince yourself that females don't like men who smoke as a 17 year old that should do it for you at that age most men will do anything to attract the opposite sex

Why don't you think of something you really want to get. Keep a picture of it, or write it on a piece of paper or something and keep it in your wallet or whereever you keep your money. Then when you go to buy the cigarettes you will remember and keep the money in your pocket! Then go home and stick that money in a "piggy bank" or something. Since you say most of your money goes in cigs, you will see a huge difference.
The thing you buy can even be something as simple as a really nice gift for your mother, "just because...". It doesn't HAVE to be her birthday, mothers day or Christmas! Or it could just be something for yourself.
My dad smoked and as a result me and my sis both have asthma. He even wanted a cig while he was in the middle of an asthma attack!!! He died at the age of 52 of a combined asthma/heart attack. He wasn't living with us at the time but his landlady said he was found by the window and he looked as though he had been trying to get it open. He died struggleing for breath. If that doesn't put you off smoking i don't know what will.

Oh behave,
3 years is not a long time, particularly when you are young and quite active.
Don't do the patches (not considered safe untill they've been around 50yrs).
Try accupuncture, if you must use something to lean on. But better you just throw the packs away you have and avoid situations where you may by more(if you buy your cigs with your paper in the mornings, then stop buying your paper)
Oh yeah throw away every ashtray and lighter in the house Every Single One (and you know how those lighters get every where-go search them out)
Get busy, but remain calm and focused-you are not going to smoke anymore.
And 'roll' with the difficult withdrawal symptons. Remembering that they won't last.
After all the addiction as only had a hold of you for 3yrs. But you are a manchild now so just stop thinking about it, just do it! Throw away the cigs-stop smoking-quit! While your body is still strong enough to fight the addiction.
There is nothing to discuss.

You don't need patches, because you are more hooked on self-inflicted peer pressure than on the cigaretts. Even after three years, my guess is you could stop smoking on a dime if you wanted to.
I could never understand why people would take hard earned money and pay for the ability to burn leaves to inhale the smoke. It taste nasty, it irritates your nose, thoat, and eyes; it make your clothes stink, it stains your fingers, teeth, and lungs, it's directly linked to mouth, thoat, lung and skin cancer, and you know all of this.
What more do you want, a gun to kill yourself faster?

| You're slowly killing yourself. Why pay money to shorten your life span. I've had four people in my family die from them bundles of shame. 3 of them got lung cancer from smoking, and one got lung cancer from inhaling other people's smoke. Why did you start in the first place? I guess you could try patches, or some sort of therapy. Last edited on Sunday August 21st, 2005 22:28 by Ladi_Swifty

| Im trying to do it myself without patches. This is the first time im actually trying to give up smoking.Im trying to do it on will power alone. After all will power works best. The longest ive gone without smoking since ive been a regular smoker was about 5 days i think.I've gone for 2 days already without a fag.Imma see if my health improves while im off the fags for now.And hopefully ill stop completely.Perhaps ill need to take up alchohol or drugs instead to drown out the cravings.

Try heroin. Much easier on the lungs.
