@ BlackMatta
In response to your question about weakness. One thing I was taught and what works for me is if you don't really say that you have a weakness but describe an instance in where you, improved upon a certain skill. Avoid any instance that would have significant impact on the interviewers decision to hire you but something he can work with.
Say something like: " My typing speed used to be 33wpm, but after taking some computer classes I have improved my typing skills to 95wpm"
Responsd with something that shows that you have built upon a certain skill without actually saying what your weakness is.
I hope this can be of some use to you.

I used to do a "Dummy Run" the day b4 an interview so that I knew exactly where the interview took place and (all things being equal) how long the journey took.....also at the interview I'd slip into the preliminary pleasantries that I took the time and trouble to do this.....should leave a good impression b4 you've even started .....don't be late .......I certainly didn't want to hear any lame excuses...just invariably means the interviewee misjudged the journey or didn't plan properly....DO NOT do what I did once for "Dutch Courage" and drink b4 an interview I had with a National Newspaper......at one point I,shamefully said "I've got a 101 Questions to ask U".......then couldn't think of one. .........for some strange reason I didn't get the position.....lol.........shame there were 150 Young Female Employees and FOUR Men doing that selling work I was told......Urrgghh!!.........of course thats not why I wanted the Job......obviously ........of course it wasn't...........keep saying it CB and U might believe it......

@Dimoke
this was my first point of call as I remembered seeing the thread once or twice. Its nice to get idea's on interview techniques, but from a Blacknet Village stance/view. Very good advice and posters tend to be direct with what they say and cut out the spreel. Its like getting advice from a family member.
Anyway good luck with your interview as well I'm sure you will knock them out.
p.s. I'm a bit nervous, read some of the posters advice about preparation, I gave myself three or four days to prepare, others on here are talking about two weeks preparation.
Still though got to give this thread its props.

Lion...you are lucky you got a few days to prepare...i found out about my interview today! And its Tomorrow morning as well....but its all good really, it means that whatever i read here will be fresh on my mind.
I always say if its your job, no matter how nervous you are, you will relax once you realise that this is IT....just look for something positive about the job that did it for you when you first applied to focus your attention on....for me it was the mere thought of working with a big company with the opportunities to branch out that did it for me....so now i am more excited rather than nervous.....plus i am told the place is full of eligible handsome brothers.....
Again all the best and let us know how it goes.....

Yeah, same here hoping that what I read now will refresh me also. And stop me from falling into some traps I see others have pointed out on here.

Again, I am hearing you on this, I have found the positive in this job and it was that which made me apply for it and get a response back straight away I believe. I'm kind of taking that as a good sign.
lol, eligible handsome brothers... your a character for real.
If I did get this job it would be very good and it would be moving in the right direction.
Will let you know how it goes.... let us know how you get on also.

I was asked this question in my latest Interview.
1. what would you do if you had a problem with a colleague and it was affecting your work ? Or how would you deal with it.
2. What can you bring to the <company name goes here> ?
How would you answer ?
----
@Dimoke
I was sadly unsucessful in my interview, but I did recieve good feed back and told that I interviewed well, but that my problem was more to do with skillset. Also encouraged to apply for any roles I see again advertised for the same company as it will be given consideration, as I did interview well. So I will take that as a plus.
@forum/thread
This thread did prepare me well for this interview and I was able to answer the quirky questions like:
What do you know about our company ?
Just because I read exactly how I am mean't to go about it, what to take and how to drop it into the conversation if it was not brought up. I did this and was told by interviewer, that was exactly my next question. So good lookin out !
@Maat
The information you provided was very useful

I had an interview Thursday gone but I haven't heard anything as yet....I'm assuming I've been unsuccessful as I'm sure I would have heard from them by now if the outcome was good.

@Prince: Not necessarily. I've been saying it for ages but professionalism in this country is on the decline! At my last job interview I was told I would hear from them by tuesday of the following week. It wasn't till almost 5pm on the friday that I heard from them! and they had actually offered me the job. And some people I know have had to wait weeks before they've heard anything even if they have been sucessful. so keep hope alive, stay positive and Good Luck

@ PH
Were you sent on this interview by an agency? If so, call the agency and ask them to give you an update.
If not, call the hiring manager or Human resources and ask them if the positionhas been filled.
I was a hiring manager for quite a few years and never minded if people gave me a call on the status of the position.

@Soulstarr
Thing is though, in my own experience when I've been successful I was always notified no more than two working days later. I thought I would have heard from them by NOW (12:52pm!!).
Anyways I have another interview in the same field tomorrow afternoon but the one last week was the position I was really hoping for! If I haven't been successful I'd rather just be put out my misery so I can move on.
@ac9311
To be honest it's still early stages (even though it doesn't feel like it at all), but if I don't hear from them by Friday I will give them a call to find out what's up.
The interview I have tomorrow is through an agency but the one from last week I applied directly to them. Personally I don't like agencies, but there you go.

anyway, back on topic lol. If i havent been sucessful for a job then I'm usually told by post so I tend to expect it to take a longer than they say even tho it pisses me off! but I had the inside track on the job I applied for and the recruitment process sometimes takes longer than aticipated because they can be stuck between two candidates that they think are suitable. Either way, I totally undertand what you mean about wanting to be put out of your misery!
Anyway, I'm a firm believe that everything happens for a reason so you never know, the one you are going for this week might be the best career move of your life

Bastids ain't even sent a letter yet. Even if they knew I wasn't a successful candidate they should have known by say, Monday. To be honest I'll just assume I've been unsuccessful and leave it alone. It does me no good to dwell on it. I am in a good job now but it's time for me to expand.
You're right though, everything happens for a reason and if I wasn't successful then it just wasn't meant to be. Maybe the one tomorrow or another could be a good career move, who knows.
Got your pm by the way.

LOL I would have thought like you after all this time. For me it usually meant unsuccessful. Good idea to call them on Friday even though you haven't heard but if you decide to call remember to say you called for the outcome and feedback. It's not nice when you the candidate have to be the one to call in that situation because they know you want the job or you wouldn't have applied!
Soulstarr is right about the recruitment process. It usually takes long anyway so it's hard to wait around until they sort it out!
Good on you that you have the next interview so soon after. Focusing on that now can help you calm down from the fact that they didn't even have the decency to let you know . Dem wicked innit ....It may not be the one you wanted but it can still work in your favour.
So are you preparing for it now at all?

I had a practice session earlier today with a spa. Although it is a good job, I'm not half as nervous as I was over the one last week. Anyways whatever happens, happens.
I may have an interview next week as an agency called me late this afternoon and told me they were going to refer me for a position based only three miles from home! LOL after all this stress I hope SOMETHING comes through out of all of this!!!

@Prince Hakeem: The good thing is that the agency seems to be really coming through for you. The one's I used just seemed to collect CV's . You're obviously putting a lot of work into moving forward so something good has got to come of it. Last edited on Wednesday May 17th, 2006 22:10 by Maat

Well I just got back from the interview.
I gave the agency some feedback about how I thought the interview went so we'll see what happens from here. The lady was very friendly but you never know until you get feedback which will hopefully be tomorrow. I may have another interview with a different company next week but fortunately for this month while things are slow at the company I work for most of my work is home based so I don't need to worry about taking time off.
The agencies have been quite good so far but I still have a bad taste in my mouth after dealing with Brook Street in the past. That agency is blatantly anti-African male and I would never use them again.

@Prince Hakeem: I'm hoping you got your feedback already. Did you call the other place in the end?
I didn't want to go into it on this thread but once I started to realize that agencies were collecting my CV's I had to investigate because they weren't calling me after the initial visit... I found that agencies are judged by the amount of candidates they hold on their databases NOT by the number of people they find jobs. Yes they make money from the companies that use them to outsource their recruitment process but ultimatley it's about numbers. This is why it's so good to hear that you and Soulstarr don't have the same problem. Now I'm just waiting to hear that something good comes through for you both

@Maat
Well I was unsuccessful for the one I went for yesterday. The guy at the agency sent an e-mail (rather than call) to tell me. He said that the company told him I was very presentable and had the right qualities and knowledge but someone who was seen before me got the position. I didn't even even bother pursue it.
As for the one I went for last week, I deliberately didn't call them because I wasn't about to get mpre bad news. I'll just wait for them to contact me (if they do) but until then I'll just assume I wasn't successful either and just keep it moving. **sighs**
