On my way to work yesterday morning I was stopped by a female police officer on my way out of a central London tube station.
She didn't mention terrorism at first she just said she is stopping random members of the public to do security checks.
I happliy obliged at first, giving her my name address and showing her my bank card for ID but when i noticed a difference in the way she was treating me compared to the way the male officer was treating someone else across the concourse I politely objected and she immediatley adopted an attitude.
She wanted to search my bag, no problem, but why did I have to drop my bag on the floor, when the man being searched by her colleague was holding his bag in his hand while the officer peeped into it? It had been raining, the floor was filthy.
After this she proceeded to take all my belongings out of my bag and place them on the floor also. When i objected and tried to pick them up she threatened to arrest me with interfering with a police investigation.
I noticed that the other officer had finished with his subject, however I had to take off my shawl and my coat and be body searched in public in the middle of the damn tube station.
This is when she mentioned that it was for the sake of preventing terrorism.
After this she threatened to arrest me for littering if i didn't pick up the tissue that she took out of my bag and put on the floor!
I argued with her for a bit about this, but a women who had overheard everything picked up the tissue in the end.
I signed my copy of the stop and search sheet, she disputed my signature and threatened to arrest me for fraud if it was not like the one on my card.
I refused to let her see my card again and told her if she had nothing else to ask me then I would be on my way to work. The male officer indicated for her to end my ordeal, she gave me the sheet and let me go.
I noticed that she wrote on the sheet that I was stopped at 9.30am and my search started at 9.32 and ended at 9.33 - i was there for at least 15 minutes!!!
I am going to go to the local police station and complain about this, wanted to see what some of you thought first...
Coincidentally - her name was PC White!

Melissa,
Why not?! you was being harassed for no reason. She had no right to do that to you and you should complain about it. People have lost their lives, and served unnecssary prison time because of this. You were and could have been one fo the other people. You' redoing to right thing by taking this to her superiors,although you must expect as in many case like this or worse, they are always going to say that the cops were justified. If that won't work, I would file a lawsuit against them or anything just to let people know that his swoman don't need to be a police officer.

Dont leave the matter. Write to the Scotland Yard Chief of Police as well when you done complain.
Next time refuse to do anything which you think is unreasonable and unfair. Let it be known in no uncertain terms you think you are being RACIALLY DISCRIMINATED against and the reasons why. Also that you are happy to be arrested in exchange to uphold your rights and will be making an official complaint about the named officer and her racist procedures once you leave regardless.
This usually works as the Police are reluctant to take such trivial matters of no substance to court, as well as get involved with racist complaints against them.

Everyone I tell gets really upset about it which I wasn't at the time.
Im not normally the calmest of people, i think I was in shock which was a good thing as it helped me to keep my cool.

You are right to want to complain about that kind of treatment.
I remember being stopped myself years back on one of these 'random' stop exercises. The first thing I asked was "What 'randon methodology' are you using?"
The officer looked at me kind of blank with one of those "Huh?" expressions.
I went on to explain to him that since (in his own words) this was a random stop, I just wanted to know what method he used to ensure I was picked out at random. I went on to further explain that the word random suggests that the criteria used has no fixed or predetermined criteria to determine that particular subject type gets picked out (e.g. only people with red hair or people with brown eyes). But is one which ensures that a person with red hair could just as easily be stopped as a person with brown eyes....(albeit allowing for the fact that a greater proportion of people have brown eyes than have red hair).
Anyway the question thoroughly stomped him as it was obvious that his 'random' didn't mean something like 'every third member of the public that walks by'........but, probably, more like 'every black man that walks by'.
I wouldn't relate the whole story because this is about Melissa's diabolical treatment, save to say that Melissa's cop would not have found me as civil as Melissa in the same circumstances.
Melissa.....You go girl, give them what for!

Be very methodical about pointing out the DIFFERENTIAL treatment you received as opposed to the gentleman next to you.
Make sure you copy to your local MP and every other bumbaclaat useless organisation that will listen (CRE etc). Tell them you are considering contacting a solicitor and the press.

I am not a petty criminal much less a major terrorist and i ain't about to get use to being treated like one either.
I have been down to West End Central 3 times and been made to wait over a hour each time, meaning i did not have time to make my complaint as i had to get back to work.
I didn't want to do it over the phone. So' I'll keep trying.

| Or send a letter via recorded delivery outlining everything, including subsequent visits to the station. You can get a receipt from Royal Mail that has a copy of the signature of whoever signed for it. So even if they claim to "lose" your letter, you can at least know who was resposible for receiving it. And like Vezz said, send the same info in an e mail. Also telephone calls. Basically bombard them. They are relying on you getting sick of them before they get sick of you, hence why they deliberatly make you wiat knowing you have to go back to work. Be a tenacious persisitant pain until they realize you are not going away.

I must send out over 200 emails a day and somehow I didn't think of that.
I've done that now anyway, I'll see what happens. If I don't get a reply by Friday I'll go down there again.

Not meant to be, i was cut up about that incident. Its just an example of what happens if you do not take action when the pigs take the piss full stop. If in the states more of a fuss should be made when getting illegally stopped and searched, we shouldn't waituntil things like this happen to protest.
