All
My neice attends a school which is about 99% black/African. My brother enquired what is happening for Black History Month.......they are doing nothing! There reasoning was because they did not do "religous" observances they would not recognise BHM.
I am not happy with the response. Your help and advice is sought on what my next move should be.....
P.S. I will pick up any replies on Monday as I will not be able to access a computer till then.
Thanking you all in advance.

| I would raise this with the school Governors and the education office of the local authority... when you do point out to these numbskulls that BHM is not a religous celebration. it is meant as a vehicle to highlight the African contrubution to world history and that in a diverse school with a significant Black pupil population they are obliged to incorperate this as part of their educational development of ALL the puplis..

We need to stop depending on the Europeans to educate us. Even if the school is mostly Afrikan, the curriculum was likely chosen by a European or one of their Black slaves.
The best Black History Books are written by Black people who know what they are talking about. Two new series from Khepri Enterprises would be perfect for your child. The one called This Is Who We Are covers all kinds of interesting facts, from the Origin of Humanity to the Afrikan Origin of Rap Music, Afrikan Hair, the US Reconstruction Period, Afrikan Cultures (Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, etc), Black Inventors, etc.
Thank You Black Men & Women is about all kinds of topics affecting Black boys and girls. There is a part about What Makes a Great Black Woman, Why Black Girls Should Respect Themselves, Ida B. Wells, Thurgood Marshall, Imhotep, Nkrumah, etc. Also covers the Slave Revolts and has a heavy emphasis on bravery and self reliance! Don't depend on the schools. They are owned by the state- just like like the prisons. http://www.kheprient.com

AFRICAN History Month!
We're not black and they're not white, stop with their colour games! Its why they keep comparing themselves to us and us to them.

Thank you for your advice. I stand corrected it is indeed African History Month and I will refer to it as such in future.

Although i think it is important for schools to reconize black history month, its best to come from ur parents. We brushed on slavery a bit at school but nothin' more. Although my mom doesnt know everything she taught me alot and gave me books to read. (thanx mom )i now know the struggles and achievements we've been through and continue to go through as a race and thats all down to the teaching at home not at school.
