| Hey everyone. Im 25 with a gold tooth at the front of my mouth. The tooth next to the first big tooth. It is half a window so there is only a gold strip at the bottom and gold runs at the back of the tooth to the top. Basically I got it when I was 16 at a tulse hill dentist in south London and now I don't think I want it anymore, I do occasionally like it except when I wear silver since it looks dumb. Luckily the dentist did not file it down so I can take it off but the dentist said it may shatter the tooth since it has to be drilled off, but im also scared it could be discolored since I have had it for 9 years but would it be like when im 40? Also I have just started working in a boys school and it draws to much attention to them, they love it but when im in a meeting I hate smiling since I am conscious of the gold tooth, they the white people say I love it, but these times im thinking they think im some yardie and im not, equally I think it draws bare riff raff to me? What do you think I should do? Should I risk shattering the tooth? Risk it being discolored? Do you think it portrays a certain stereo type? Do you have a gold tooth? How do you feel about it? Have you had a gold tooth removed? Do you regret it for any reason? Would you be interested in women with a gold tooth? Do you think as a social worker in a school it looks professional? Do you think it can still give me the image that needs to be taken seriously? I also have a damn tattoo on my right arm of a idiot panther that I got done when I was 15 I damn regret getting that done, oh well it cant be removed. Back to the tooth? Please any advice given much appreciated. Peace xx

A gold tooth (no more than one) can look cute on a woman. No doubt. I like em when done right.
The riff raff thing is funny because I know two lawyer women and they both have gold tooth. I would have imagined you might have problems in a professional setting but then you say you're starting in a school so presumably the principal/head master has seen you already and approved right? No worries then!
I don't like the window thing though, or those halfy things. Just rock the solid gold or nothing imo.
If you're really worried go to a second dentist for a next opinion. They might be able to replace it with a white cap.

I don't like gold teeth on a woman, even if it's only one. I'm still reeling from the early 90s when mans dem used to sport gold fronts with diamond studs and some of the girls used to follow suit. LOL I loved those times but the gold teet' ting was ugly.
Get rid of the gold tooth and sport them pearly whites.

Caramel: I had front gold teeth for over ten years...after my original one got broken whilst playing Cricket.. I have to say in all honestly that it don't look good when taking pictures.. no matter how you pose you always end up looking like Micheal Spinks.
further If you're looking to be taken seriously in the world of work, it looks course, brutish and sophisticated, in trying to attach the right type of partner I felt it put the type of women I liked off dating me.. So for that reason I eventually got rid of mine and had it replaced with a full white cap, which in my view is much much better..
So my advice don't do it..unless you like the THUGLOOK..

True... tatoos spring to mind there
But then I'm all about living for now not 30 years in the future. Who knows if I'll live those 30 years in the future? So wether me at 50 something would look silly with my tooth isn't important now. It looks good now.
This woman is only 25 and probably still looks good with it. She can change it later if it really bugs her.

DM; I hear you on the 'living for now' thing..however what I have found is that its amazing how some things come back to bit you in the bum at later life.... Yes one should live, but its not everything we should indulge in, without keeping a weather eye on how it will be percieved down the line...
and yes Tattoo's are a great example.. I dislike tattoo's however on some young people it can look good... But when I see tattoo's on people 50 plus..sorry I think hooker, I think cheap and I think chav!!! sorry but for me I see someone like that and I'm less likely to take them seriously....

I personally don't like gold teeth, on women in particular. The same goes for tatoos, although some can look good. my view is like Kunjufu, as you get older it does not look good anymore, it looks trashy. I also think these things can make a woman look less beautiful/feminine more thug! Mary J Blidge for example has go a lot of tatoos. when she wears a hood outfit it looks good, when she wears a sophisticated feminine outfits in some of her videos, the tatoos spoil it for me.
I thing grills however are far more worse on men and women alike! How is that attractive?

It seems like you were impulsive when you were younger lol, I personally don't like to see gold teeth full stop, and especially not on women, not very lady like, but as I said that's my opinion.
If it bothers you that much then look into getting it removed, the things they can do with teeth these days, have you ever seem Extreme Make over on sky???? Will I've seen some women that looked like Jaws come out with some lovely purely white with veneers and such, so you don't have to worry about turning 40 and having a funny looking tooth. LOL
As for the "idiot tattoo" as you call it LOL, I thought that they could be removed these days... I am sure that I have heard people having them removed.

You should remove it.. I personally don't like the Gold Teeth on woman.. no matter how sophisticated she presents herself to be, the gold teeth will stick out like a saw thumb.
Proffessionally it doesn't portray good image, even if you are suited and booted, people may not tell you but they would have already boxed into a certain stereotypes, I would too..

It doesn't matter if it's gold teeth, tats, or piercings. I have said it before and I'll say it again. Black women need to find some decent role models and stop emulating trailer trash.

i guess this is the same thing many white employers (and even some black ones too sadly) do when black people arrive to be interviewed for a job.
they probably dont even need to see a gold tooth or tattoo, as soon as they see the brown skin of A BLACK MAN (Shock horror!!) or black woman they box you into a certain stereotype... worse if you dont sound like derek from big bro when you speak to them.

is it better if the tatts they have look like something done in afrika?? to me a tattoo is a tattoo, dont really matter what it is of. same with piercing, i've seen people (african or australian aborigine i think) with big metal plate inserted in their flesh stretching out their lip and to me a little silver or gold stud would have looked better.
what about the scars african people put on their childrens faces?? do you think this is better than grown adults choosing to get a tattoo or a piercing? i think its worse.

My mum is nearing her 50s and is a professional with her own business. She's had her gold for yrs and it hasn't affected anything she has done in her life. My dad also rocks the gold and it looks good on the both of dem. Up to u but if u do have it taken out ur probably gonna spend a lot of money over a long period of time getting the tooth fixed.

I HATE gold teeth on anyone, i think they look cheap, tacky and just plain NARSTY!
Still, i met a guy with one a few years ago and im with him now. So i guess it doesn't matter what 'image' it portrays in peoples minds as long as your comfortable with it and you do what you got to do.
A gold teeth don't make you a 'thug' if you don't act like one.
