The hype surrounding OCD Obsessive Compulsion Disorder - Obsessive by whose standards? Disorder from whose reference point? For me and many other people I know this is completely normal behaviour :)

sweet sugar dumpling - believe there are times I've had to accept that if the house burns down it burns down. Still it will play on my mind all day until I get home - expecting to see fire engines et all on the scene :)

I'm probably not that bad in this sense. I'm more one for straight lines, symmetry and balance but even then this probably has more to do with the love for the aesthetics. I have a female friend who is almost as bad as me who has every tin can of food facing the same. When I say almost as bad, I'm more one to buy excessive tins of the same thing just to get that extra krissness when they're all lined up together :)

LOL   I  hear ya  ....   I am exactly the same in certain things   Everything facing the right way     3 looks better than 2      clothes have to be folded       a certain way of doing things like a ritual     cleaning things in the same order.

I believe everyone has a mild form of OCD and not even realise it.   But what happens to those fear bad things  will happen to them if they dont perform their rituals everyday.  There are some serious cases out there  that aint even funny and i wouldnt wish them on any one. Some even take over peoples lives.

Peace ;)

LOL! I thought I was the only one who did the facing forward thing! But I don't think that's OCD, I just think it looks tidy!

If anything I can be obsessed (correct word) with tidiness but I don't have a problem with that.

Anyone watches Monk?

I'm a germaphobe (if's there's such a word), if I could wear gloves 24/7 I would lol, I wash my hands up to 20 times a day at work, I have dettol spray that I use to spray everthing before I touch it, the telephone, computer keyboards, and when no-one's in the office, I spray the door handles and any surface that is touched by everyone.  I thought I was comepletely weird untill the new lady my department arrived and she is exactly like me, so now I don't feel so bad anymore.:D:D:D

Ok, when settling down to watch a movie or listen to some music, I have been known to get up and adjust the alignment of the hifi components about a dozen times in the space of twenty minutes - somehow the music just sounds a bit off when the amplifier is even a millimetre out of line with the cd/dvd player - and that's a millimetre out according to me:)

Everything has to be in order or I go nuts.  My DVDs, my books, my comics, my videos, my CDs, my MP3 Library.  It has to be in order and categorized.  Not necessarily tidy or clean... but in ORDER.  STRUCTURE!

If I could find a job where I got paid to put things in to orders and categories all day long I'd seriously be a happy bunny.

Rotfl! This reminds me of the time I told my mum I was doing a food technology class at school and when the actual cookery day came, she sent me to school armed to the teeth with flash antibacterial wipes, my own cloths, my own foil, my own cutlery, my own container...

Yep I'm a big time germophobe. My biggest fear? Public toilets! I get it from everyone in my family and I wouldn't have it any other way lmao!

bighairlol
I didn't mention my extreme phobia of public toilets because I didn't want to go on too much, but BWOYYYYYYY that is my nightmare. I wish they had electric everything, automatic door opening, automatic seat covers, automatic toilet paper dispenser, automatic taps and hand dryer so that I would'nt have to touch ANYTHING.  blkhide

So I have this rubbing alchohol gel that I use after I've scrubbed my hands and dried them to kill any germs that may still be on my hands.  All of this I got from my dad, he is sooooo scornful. lmaooooo

Obsessive Compulsive disorder is known to arise from a previous trauma. Now people may admitt to having superstitious tendancies but is anyone open enough to explain why?

Miss Nellia, if I'm honest I tend to find anything out of place irritatingly unpleasing to the eye - was once told because I haven't had too much Eastenders drama happen in my life :)

interesting.  i sometimes wonder if it has anything to do with an intense need to be in control, or a need to feel as if you are in control, and then it just gets out of hand and starts getting silly.

the desire to have total control of something, (no matter how trivial) in order to counter feelings of powerlessness is sometimes said to be one of the possible causes of anorexia and bulimia, which are also both examples of obsessive/compulsive behaviours.

Now people may admitt to having superstitious tendancies but is anyone open enough to explain why?

a lot of people wouldnt be able to explain why they do the things they do because they dont really know themselves, even if they were open enough to talk about it.

LOL, could be true, maybe you need something to offset your OCD, but I can imaging that as completely irritating.

@Bubz

Maybe there is truth to what you say, I also think that it is learnt as well, I know for a fact that it is my Dad that started this obsession in me with hygiene, my dad would live in a bubble of he could lmaooo....... and watching this as a child instilled this behaviuor in me......

Bubz...I'd say with me it's definitely more a control thing rather a previous trauma - though I am beginning to enjoy the pleasures of being a passenger in a car :)

yes you do learn from parents and what you are taught does stay with you.  some people have problems with wasting things (eg. food) because it was instilled in them not to waste things and that behaviour they carry into adulthood... and then pass onto their children.

not a bad thing but to think that some people eat past the point where their stomach is full just because they were conditioned to think it is wrong to scrape good food into the bin.

i saw this programme about OCD once where the woman was crying, literally in TEARS because her baby was touching the wheels of his/her buggy!!  The idea of the baby touching the dirty wheels made the woman break down and cry because she was trying to battle the OCD and learn that the world wouldnt end if the baby's hands got germs on them so she had to sit and watch while the baby touched the wheels of the buggy.  funny thing to me was that the woman had a CAT!

she was taking part in the programme to try to beat the OCD cuz she didnt want it to affect her experience of motherhood and maybe affect her child in a negative way.
