Question 1,whats the difference between a digi camera I saw in Tescos for £17.99 and say a Canon one for £179.99.
The 17£ one comes with a disc and sez you need to have Windows98 or greater of Mac 9.0, blah, blah.
I dont know about the specs of the more expensive one.
But my main question is?????????????????????????
How do you get the pictures from either???
This piece of technologly has completely passed me by.
Should I get the £17.99 one for practice or will I still need to buy extra bits for that one to work??
I'm confused HELP!!!!

Differences will be in picture quality - look for references to 'megapixels' in the blurb - the higher the number, the better the quality (in general). Canon will be hard to beat picture quality-wise. Anything above 3-4 megapixels is generally good enuff, or used to be....
Downloading? Either to a PC with software supplied with the camera (or possibly to Windows Explorer), or directly to a printer if you have the right one. Not complicated - usually happens via a USB cable similar to one you would use to download music onto an mp3 player/iPod.
Shout if that's too technical...

Yes,I kinda understand what you are saying, but basically I want my computer out of the equation altogether.I just want to take pics with the digi and take the chip or whatever in to be developed.
How does that work?

Your Digicam has a memory card called an XD.
I take this to a digital shop like Jessops for example and stick into the self service machine. I then either enter a small amount of money (10p a pic or something like that) or I stick my credit/debit card in and choose the pictures I want to develop.
The whole process takes about 5 minutes. You could also take all the pics and burn a CD on this machine, the CDs are free and then leave it with them for overnight or 1hr development.
Going back to your original question I wouldn't buy a £17 digital camera. Uh uh. You get what you pay for and it just wouldn't be worth it. Go to a camera shop and ask them for what suits your personal needs.
You won't really need above 5 megepixels unless you plan to blow up your pictures and make very big prints of them. For standard size pics 4-5 megapixels should be cool.

How does that work?
Exactly as you said it - you can take the memory card which stores the pictures your camera takes to Boots (or somewhere like that) and print the pictures from there. I think in Boots you can do it 'while you wait'....I've not done it that way, but you could probably also get those same pictures stored on a CD, leaving your memory card free for use again. You can also buy memory cards with more memory if you want to store more pictures on one card.
If you want to cut Boots out of the equation, buy (or have someone get you) a printer which is capable of handling memory cards - some of them do not require connection to a PC at all. Might be expensive if you want decent quality pictures, and you have to buy photo paper, ink cartridges and all that - but it does give you control over the process...

Jett, why don't you just take a short cut and PM Kunjufu. By the look of his pictures in the photography forum, he might just save you the technology jargon by recomending one. The one he uses apparently is one of the best around for amateurs....
I am as confused as you are.....all this hi tech gadgets are just an evil way to make us mere mortals feel inadequate, thats why i pay Abs to do me hi tech shopping...

@JB
Digital cameras are only expensive disposable cameras. You take a picture threaten to get them developed and never do. Then you end up erasing some of the pictures you took on the camera only so that you can take more pictures and three years later you have taken hundreds of pictures and MAYBE have only 5 if you are lucky to show for it.
Ahhhh technology.... LOL
