For some reason my other topic about this was closed. Don't know why. I wasn't being racist. But since this is an advice thing I'll ask.
Question: What am I supposed to do about the fact that I'm not accepted amongst my black peers?

Okay, so my dad's black and my mom's Puerto Rican. I started this thread because everytime I ask one of my black friends what the hell their problem is all they do that annoying smirk as if saying "You should know. . ."
Since my father is black, I think that still gives me the right to say that I have African blood in me, but for some reason the black people in my high school don't seem to agree. I don't get it. Why not? Why can't I say that I'm half black, because NEWSFLASH: I am.
The black people I hang out with don't really discriminate me like in a way that I couldn't tolerate it. They just seem to have this attitude towards me that I'm somewhat of a disgrace because I'm not completely black and it makes me feel like I have more to prove.
Looks-wise, I'd say that I look more Puerto Rican than black; I have light brown skin and naturally straight, brown hair, and people tell me I have a "Hispanic smile". My eyes and my lips I got from my dad. But still--nationality-wise, I'm still half black.
But what's the problem anyway? It always seems that my black friends are secretly mocking me if I'm speaking Spanish or going to the P.R parade or stuff like that. I always thought blacks and Hispanic were allies, but a friend told me that no, we're actually rivals. I don't know. Maybe it's because I grew up with both races loving each other. But what's wrong with being half Hispanic anyway? I (*gasps*) like being Hispanic. I think it's cool. I think being black is cool too. But my black peers always seem to want to make me feel like an outsider or a "fake N****r". I don't really get that pressure from the other side. I'm not saying Hispanics can't be just as b**chy--hell they can be b**cher for some thingsbut I don't really get the whole "you're-not-pure-hispanic-pressure" like I do for being black. Maybe its because theres too many countries are included in latin america for interracial dating to be an issue, or maybe the black population is way too proud at times, or maybe there's pressure from the media, but I just dont get it.
So what's the problem with not being "pure black"? I'd actually like to be accepted with both sides of my racial identity.

| Yo if u keep posting threads like these then they will constantly get locked. Read the damn guidelines before u create another thread, thats the only advice ur gonna get.
