I see more and more people getting tattoos nowadays. I'm thinking about getting one myself. The thing is I don't know what to get yet. Maybe you guys could help me out with what tattoos are most popular with young black people like myself. I plan on getting it on either my left shoulder or my left bicep muscle. I'd like something thing cool and colorful. I notice a lot of tattoos are done in black and gray color, which doesn't look very good in my opinion. Thanks for taking the time to help.

@ steven01.....my best advice (same as your mother's)
DONT !!!!!! DO IT....
It will please you for a while......
it is possible it will please you for most of the rest of your life....
.but there is that day.....
that special day......
not tomorrow or the day after.......maybe when you take the grandchildren swimming (now thats a thought)....
when you will be soooooo embarrassed ....
Dont do what you cant undo easily.....that may SEEM good at the time...that may be so COOL right NOW....
Otherwise do as you wish....but dont ever say you have not been warned.....
A cute one where nobody can see it is acceptable if you must.....

I'm sorry Steven but may I ask your age? Because your entire post smacks of getting a tattoo purely for fashion as you seem to think it is "in" right now. Well as i have said somewhere on this site before, a tattoo ain't nothing but a pretty scar. It is permanant., as well as costly and painful to remove when you should deem it no longer "fashionable". I also think it is unwise to get a tattoo design based on the opinions on a bunch of strangers. As it is permanant, at the very least it should be of something that holds some significance to you, preferably a PERMANANT significance - no name of currant girlfriend business!! could be hard to explain when nex' wifey comes along.
And i am not just some oldie lecturing you. I know whereof I speak. I am 27 and got my tattoo done just over a year ago. It is on my ankle so is easily concealed if i so wish. it is about an inch square and is of a butterfly. This is a significant symbol for me done for my own personal reasons and at a significant time in my life. when i look at it i am reminded of those things. To be honest, 90% of the time i forget its even there!! and now that winter is coming it will be mostly covered up. My sister has three tattoos. Two are in chinese - one means strength and the other is her name. And she knows for a fact it is her name because some chinese guy called out her name and she asked how he knew and he said it was her tattoo!! (there was a story a while back about the rapper eve having a chinese tattoo and the word meaning something different to what she asked for) the third tattoo my sister has is of her sons name. So our tattoos are significant to us and done with plenty of fore thought.
In all honesty, i really would not advise you to get a tattoo as you do not seem to understand the im plications of it.
Sorry about the "essay" but just thought you could use some advise from someone who's "been there"!

Salaam Steven.
It's true you see more people getting tattoos (and piercings) nowadays. These are bad signs since they signal a shift in peoples spiritual consciousness towards tribalism and idolatry (self-worship).
I would advise you not to get a tattoo (I hope your mind is not already made up). It is wrong to try and alter our nature by tattoing images upon our bodies. Would you spray (or allow others to spray) graffiti on the walls of your home? Our bodies are homes which nature has created for us. Please do not vandalise them.
I see many people in the street with tattoos - especially women in the street with tattoos on their backs (showing) - these people are debasing their own nature and the nature of those around them by this behaviour. You cannot help feeling there is something 'dirty' about them. Without any doubt there is a link between this behaviour and increasing drug and alcohol addiction as well as violence on our streets.
May Allah guide you to the right decision brother.

| Find out about fading tatoos, I think they fade after ten years or so, so less permanent.

| I always found it odd that black people get tattoos in colours designed for white skin. Shouldn't the ink used on black people be white?
