i'm going home in about ten days yes HOME not here this is not my home , yes i was born here but my mom and dad are from the motherland yep so that's where my home is , the flag on my wall is not the british flag that portrays years of racism, slavery e.t.c it's the ghanian flag. Now i'm going for four weeks and was wondering how it would be , because i've been in this country so long and have conformed to the culture, the last time i went there was 10 years ago and i could hardly remember it!, . Anyways i will be doing a lot of soul searching when i'm there, also i'll be visiting the ports where they took the slaves from (because ghana was the first place where slaves were taken by the europeans). Anyway i was just thinking for those of you who have been HOME recently how was the experience did it change you? or was it no big deal? what should i expect?
red symbols the blood shed for the fight for independence
gold represents the wealth , gold and the minerals
green represents the forests, trees, plants
the black star represents hope and honour

Sweet_ebony,
I've never been to Africa myself, but some of my friends. All of them were enligtentned by the experience and learned a lot by going there. Some of them went there by study abroad programs for a few weeks, while some of them stayed there from 1 to 6 years.in their cases they have been to Zimbabwe, South Africa, Kenya and Senegal. I'm curious about my boyfreinds homeland(Mali), Senegal and Cape Verde, Just in general I'm just curious about many African countries. Another friedn of mine is in Cap-vert Senegal. She'll be there for a year. I'm curious to see what she's going to say about it. I'm curious about Africa because I've been hearning a lot of good about it, although media wil show you the bad. I just would like to learn something new--the truth about people, places and things.

| Sweet-ebony: everyone I've known who has been to Ghana has totally loved it...my advice go with an open mind...because it will be a culture shock.. but you will I hope learn and grow from the experience.. In my view it is the duty of every African to visit the motherland as least once before they die..

As said before just go with an open and mind leave behind that I'm so superior western attitude some of us seem so hard to let go of and forget about western comparisons. Was there last year got married out there to wifey who’s is of Jamaican decent she loves Ghana, Accra is getting very much like Europe with the Woolworths and the Nandos flex. Just as I left they had done the airport absolutely criss and there are quite few night clubs that are bumping even though the American culture is creeping in slowly. Look for a club/nightspot/ restaurant called Oseki pronounced o-c-ki which is beautiful as is it right on the coast line which is set on a slight cliff edge and finish’s about 5 in the morning with live bands drinks and barbecues while sitting outside on a guaranteed hot summers night watching the waves smash against the coast u can even go and sit on the rocks below nice for meditation purposes. There is another one similar to that which I think is free to get in called ‘next door’ Lebanese owned similar setting right on the coast the vibes are just as good.
Cape coast and Elmina castle is a bit of an emotional experience when u go there for the first time so braise yourself as the despicable inhuman activity that our people went through is there to be seen in its all its rawest form where the disgusting sh*t that went on in those torture castles is enough to hate white people forever. But don’t get to happy go lucky when u convert your Pounds to Cedis as the exchange rate is ridiculous (16000c to £1) and u will feel very rich for a hot minute until u realise that most of those European luxuries i.e. crunchy nut cornflakes, Ribena one has become accustomed to are equivalent to those same prices in Europe so if u don’t acclimatise to local cuisine pretty quickly your gonna find yourself pretty squint but in all honesty it is relatively cheap.
You may probably experience the odd water shortage here and there nothing to drastic a few light off’s (power cut) due to over loaded transformers now and again a bit how London use to be in the 70’s but relative calm wherever u go. Nobody’s going to trouble u everybody’s just getting on with there thing. I’m not sure if you’re a Ga, Ashanti, Fante ect. bcoz if u go to Kumasi Ashanti heartland there are also nice clubs to go and rave if your into that the only thing is I find them a bit small compared to here but good vibes all the same. The Accra to Kumasi road has been done criss and if u ever have reason to make that long journey (280 km) u will see the beauty of Africa in its entirety as u pass through the various villages people rushing u in order to sell u the local cuisine as well as fresh fish straight from the sea all in all its most definitely a humbling experience especially when it makes u realise the inadequacies of western consumerism.
P.s. Oh and dont forget to watchout for 'Toom Toom' (Mosquito's) as they love fresh blood.
Peace.

My brother is there and he is going to be my tour guide lol he says we are goin raving as soon as i touch down in kotoka airport lol. Also i am GA so i will be in Accra mostly unless i'm travelling around site seeing. I've already been terrorised by the mosquitos in scotland (yes there are mosquitos in Scotland) so i'm ready for the little gits in Africa lol. Hate to be the bitter one but is it not ironic that we talk about the problems we have as a people and wen we get in positions of advantage, we fire to live like the crackas live? I havent been to Ghana in two years, Im aware of all it fruits as Ive lived there for half my life, but if I was to go there the last thing I wud be doing is wasting money on luxury whilst u have 8 year old boys n girls at 6in da morn running from car to car to sell water simply to feed families, and old wrinkly crackas all up in Ghana sexing young girls through prostitution and rape.
I swear the last thing Im asking people to do is to go there and be miserable, but what happened to being happy for building ur own future! Not targeting no one cus I had a quick read, but I read a quote and som1 is bragging bout servants????? Talk about how the slave masters once felt!
When I got in the UHURU Movement and some of the experienced members kept stressing the struggle is for the oppressed and working class, and what it means to commit class suicide, I didnt know how crucial that character of the struggle was, but everyday something just keeps confirms it!
I still got Ghanaian citizenship, the only thing hold me from going there right this second is my role in da struggle here, but trust me, when I personally feel secure wit the movement here in UK, im going down there to cus rawkus wit da democratic space down there, and all the flashy comedians!
UHURU
